Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Interesting. Looks very plausible seeing that it really only looks like 3 or 4 new buildings, plus the fieldhouse (which I am still mulling over) and the parking garage. I like that parking garage there, that is a very good use for that parcle over the tracks and pinned in against the bluff and shoreway bridge. The plan also leaves the area north of the convention center open for future development.

Fuck it. I'll be the one to say with no reservations. I am excited by this team, and manager.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I know the PR community is the most sizable group of Hispanics in Cleveland, but I'm pretty sure the majority of the Hispanics in Painesville are Mexican. I don't know too much about Lorain, but I thought it was heavily Mexican as well. And I'm pretty sure the Hispanic community in Elyria is not very big. Mexicans? In Painesville?? Impossible! Everyone loves a Polka!

Admit Your Cultural Blasphemy!
Mandy Moore. I have liked her since "Saved!", anybody who can make that movie has to have a good sense of humor. Then she goes off and marries Ryan Adams, which just confirmed she was cool. Her music has been getting better too. Waiting for the Johnny Cash/June Carter style album from the her and Ryan.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
My bad on Painesville. ^^Ditto on Lorain. I worked at the old Ford van plant in Lorain for a year, and there were definately a lot of PR and Latino UAW members there. Maybe 10-15% of the workforce at the time.

Galleria/ Tower City Restaurant destination?
Maggiano's: The Italian Cheesecake Factory Abuelo's: The Mexican Cheesecake Factory PF Chang's: The Chinese Cheesecake Factory People love, love, love that formula, though. I'd argue with that a little bit, at least the other three stick to a certain menu. I can't figure out exactly what the Cheesecake factory is suppose to be. A menu as thick as a phone book with everything under the sun in it?

Galleria/ Tower City Restaurant destination?
Random question, is the Stanley Block Building big enough to hold a restaurant such as a Maggiano's. It seems like a prime location with the Casino (if Gilbert doesn't knock it down). Edit: Just had a private group dinner in a ballroom at the Maggiano's in DT Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Maggiano's on the mind.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Easily. I just wondering if the Non-PR portion was growing at the same pace as the other Ohio cities. Huge displaced low(er)-skilled workforce in the state would be my guess. Lots of guys already willing to roof and hang sheet rock up.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
The highest Latino pop makes sense when you think about the sizable PR communities in both Elyria/Lorain and Painesville, in addition to the westside. I would be curious to see what percent of our Latino population is PR compared to the other cities.

The engineering students certainly noticed this too. One of the issues I had at OU was the biz undergrads week basically ended on Thursday, their four per week classes were all M-T-W-Th while for whatever reason the Engineering schools were M-T-Th-F. And our "off" day was Wed.

I second the AMP 150 recommendation. Go with a party of 4 and get the 3 course meal that way you can try a little bit of everything.

Cleveland sports talk radio
Oops, looks like I caused a landslide of off topicness. I actually miss Munch during drivetime. Yes, he's annoying and a suck up homer but he worked for me. I loathe the R and R show. Let me rephrase that, he would get annoying after 30 minutes, not 30 seconds. Tribe is off to a good start tonight.

Governor John Kasich
Well that link is going on my FB page tonight....I loved the guy who said "get out of the way" three times when listing what Kasich could do.

Cleveland sports talk radio
My theory on why they were winning is that they were scoring more runs than their opponents. Exactly! :-D Is it sad that my first reaction is that I wish that Cleveland sports talk radio was capable of this level of logic????

The "Apple Macintosh" Discussion Thread
Glad to hear everything worked out Rob. Checkout the de-branded HP systems that are floating around out there on geeks.com and the such. They come without an OS but you can't build one for the prices they are selling them for. Ok, here is my mac question. Is there any reason that an 27" imac with a quad core not have enough horsepower to handle my wife's work in INDESIGN and the other CS5 graphics programs? She is doing a lot of the media for her roller derby league and has a lot of freelance graphic design work coming in. My old dual core athalon 64 can handle it but it's not exactly speedy, so she is bugging me to get a new computer. I don't anticipate any video editing in her future, so is there any reason to bump up to the Mac Pros with the xeons and ECC memory? From what I can tell there isn't.

Good. now that's solved, where are we meeting for a drink? Edit: I better get back on topic. I have a feeling Mayday has an ax graphic waiting for me when he gets home.

Cleveland Neighborhood Map
Thanks StrapHanger, I looked up "Big Italy" on the ECH, and it was a neighborhood at it's peak of about 5000 Italians that had a major importer and produce stand operator as it's main businesses. Weren't all the produce greenhouses in that general area too? I imagine though that most of the men worked in the mills. http://ech.case.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=BI2

Galleria/ Tower City Restaurant destination?
Funny I was thinking that this discussion was in response to increased number of DT vistors and guests when the Casino and MM/CC are completed. If the demand is there, I don't think the chains would hurt, especially if they are serving people that wouldn't otherwise go to our fine homegrown places. Right now I think a destination chain would just scalp business and hurt the existing places, some which have been depending too much on sports attendance these past few years.

Cleveland Neighborhood Map
What's the history on the "Big Italy" on that ethnic neighborhood map? Was that centered around central market? I am also surprised that the Italian enclave up in between Father Caruso Dr and Detroit did not show up. Judging from what remains today that area was very Italian in the past.

Galleria/ Tower City Restaurant destination?
^ That's a good point HTs. Look at HOB which is a national chain and one of the anchors of E 4th. It has wonky hours too. It's not the same as a TGIF or Chili's but it's still a chain that responds to the patron levels by adjusting it's hours. Does Cleveland have more regional chains such as the Stinkin' Lizard and Panini's that crowd out some of the national chains? The Gospel on this subject according to CBC: Probably one each of the biggy destination Chains (PF Changs, CCF, etc) at Tower City and (maybe) the galleria when paired with the already abundant indy and local joints, Morton's and possibly a few more mid-level chains would improve the appearance of DT/TC to outside vistors. They associate those place with so-called hip Lifestyle centers like Easton and Crocker Park.

Go get them tonight Tribe, you still can take the series. I'll take that for a loss. If the what I believe is the 3rd youngest team in MLB ends a winning streak in a pitchers duel while playing sound defense and great pitching with a 4 hit/ 2 run game by Fausto, what can you complain about? The Angels Haren pitched out of his mind last night, hopefully the Tribe bats have better luck tonight.
