    Some of his later comments show that his heart is in the right place but man that was a lot of venom to see past...

    Puffing smoke? Excellent. I'll take this chance to plug the Youngstown Model Railroad club. They usually have their annual open house weekends in Nov/Dec of each year. They have a really cool space in an old clapboard church on the west side of Youngstown. I have been going since I was a kid and my parents took my kids again this year. They have modelled 1950's/60's Youngstown (see KJP photo threads on y-town to see how crazy busy the trains were) in a huge HO scale model in the basement. It's really impressive. Upstairs is the larger gauge sets with mountains and tunnels and such. They have added the tech goodies like cameras on the trains and such in recent years. If you have a kid into trains, I highly recomend making the trip. http://www.ymra.org/

    Happy Holidays everyone. Love all of your Holiday cards Rob... My house looks like Toys r' Us threw up all over it. We finally were home long enough yesterday to gain some semblance of order. As far as the gluttony goes. I was at the 5th holiday gathering/dinner in 4 days last night and actually got excited to see a huge bowl of Caesar salad. I ate 2 plates of it and skipped the usual suspects (pizza, etc..) Is anybody else on here Italian and do the Feast of the Seven Fish on Christmas Eve? It's one of my favorite meals of the year..This year we had 2 kinds of shrimp, broiled scallops, grilled tuna steaks, salmon, fried smelts, calamari and linguine with white clam sauce. I think I am forgetting something too. Two words. Yum-My.

    I can't decide where to stare... ::)
  5. I have a Slackjaw EP on tape somewhere. I forgot all about that...I don't remember if that track was on it. It was a minor radio staple around NEO though.

    My wife got us an awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle snuggie in her white elephant gift exchange at work. It's screened to look like a ninja turtle, complete with a hood with the face. My new favorite blanket..

    I take it, that it wasn't the last time you read disapproval all of his face :) That was very nice of you MTS. Bravo. I am not admin but I am the resident IT help in our group because I am one of the youngest people in our group (And I am 32) because of my comfort level with technology.
  10. Cincy- Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers/Greg Dulli - One of the best and most consistant rock acts out there. Just a little too dark for huge mainstream success. Dayton- It's got to be Robert Pollard and Guided By Voices. Prolific pop genius. Ohio's version of The Replacements. Akron- The Black Keys "Heavy Soul - Akron Oh." The old slogan says it all. Got to give DEVO and Chrissy Hynde their due too. Cleveland - I love the James Gang/Joe Walsh/ PG&E/ Glenn Schwartz blues based rock sound.

    You forgot the greatest hockey movie of all time...Youngblood! The ice... The fire... The fight... To be the best. To Youngblood, winning wasn't everything - proving himself was. Best post apocalyptic roller hockey movie..."Soalrbabies"...does that count? With a tagline of " Who will rule the future?" it's so bad that it's good. OK maybe I just had a thing for Jamie Gertz growing up... Jason Patric, was in it too. I am guessing that is how they both ended up in Lost Boys together. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091981/plotsummary

    Funny I always thought that Forrest Gump was a big wet sloppy kiss on the collective Boomer's A$$.

    Oops! Forgot the Rock and Con-air. Those were considered "good "movies too. I agree Face/off was enjoyable too... and Captain Correlli's Mandolin, too :P
  17. http://www.clevelandfrowns.com/2010/12/tony-grossi-to-doug-dieken-all-i-do-all.html#links Frowns has a nice post on the PD and their coverage of the Browns (Note: he hates Grossi's witch hunt on Mangini). The post is with respect of the PD efforts to sell papers by creating Browns controversay, but I think that it's a pretty good analogy for the effect of the PD on the region in general.

    Speaking of Life Aquatic, I have found that the later Wes Anderson movies have ruined the earlier ones for me too (except for Rushmore, mostly because of Jason Swartzman). I liked the Royal Tenebaums when it came out but I tried to watch it a few months ago on Netflix, and got annoyed because Wes Anderson just makes the same detached, slightly wacky stylistic, irony filled movie over and over. The plot changes but the characters are always caricatures and are mostly unlikable. I guess what seemed fresh ( the Royals, which I believe was movie #3 after Bottle Rocket and Rushmore) when it came out seems stale after seeing the same product made over and over.... I had a get together this weekend with my friends from HS, for whatever reason we had a conversation about Nic Cage and all the horrible movies that he has made just to get a paycheck. Good Nic Cage movies we came up with were Raising Arizona, Gone in 60 secs, and the first National Treasure. Maybe Leaving Las Vegas. The rest are crap or mediocre at best.

    I think Mark Hamill was fine as the country bumpkin Luke in Star Wars and most of Empire. I had have a hard time with him as the "Serious Jedi" in the black suit in Return of the Jedi.
  21. ...and a happy new year! Great news.

    I totally agree on Di Caprio, he is just a really good actor going all the way back to Basketball Diaries (btw Jim Carroll who was the author of the book and punk rock pioneer passed away last year,he had a cameo in it as the junkie talking about how cooking smack smell like church inscense). I caught Blood Diamond on cable a few months ago for the first time and ended staying up until 1:30 in the morning watching it. I guess the best indicator of Will Smith talents was that he was able to pull off "Ali". I mean I think we all spent the first 20 minutes tripping over the fact that we were watching the Fresh Prince, but I totally got sucked into his performance in that movie. ...and for what ever reason I loved "Hitch".
