Ohio Cities' Downtown Population
It's a snapshot on the day. If nobody lived there because it wasn't open, it wasn't counted.

Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
My wife went complete with giant green eyelashes, she said the people watching was to die for...She also that the concert was great and that Gaga is the real deal. Now as for the people she went with, she didn't care for that much. She said to remind her to say no the next time an acquaintance that you really don't know that well says, "You know I am cool. You should come to this cool concert with us. I am renting a limo."

Nice parachute...When my uncle "left to pursue other interests" as a VP of Marketing at a major NEO company that SOB didn't work or do anything besides screw around and travel for 12-18 months. The funny thing is the guy who forced him out only lasted 6 more months and then his friend took over and begged him to come back. He said no, getting canned was the best thing that happened to him.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
After reading that blog I am moved... I am 32 an I have a question for some of the older forumers who were adults during the early 90s boom in Cleveland. Right now I just feel like there is something going on below the surface that I just can't put my finger on? Like we have reached the bottom and all of the scattered little positive things (and big like CC/MM) are going to soon reach a tipping point and establish a synergy that builds on each other. My question to you was with the flats and the building in downtown (Key, BP, Gateway...) is that how it felt back then too? And do you think we are getting there or is it really is just the perpetual feeling in a city in a rebuilding mode?

Pretty funny. The Godfather recast with with new Miami Heat, of course Riley is Don Corleone and Chris Bosh is Fredo. LOL. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/12/pat-riley-made-them-an-offer-they-couldnt-refuse/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002

Good for Z. That will be one interesting game when the Heat play here, Z gets a standing ovation and LBJ gets boos and the backs of the crowd. Also the Heat lack of depth basically guarantee that Z will play big minutes.

In other Cavs news, JJ Hickson is back playing in the Vegas summer league working on his footwork and jumpshot. There is an article on CLEdotbomb today. Sounds like he wants to be ready to step in his larger roll.

You mean like the sporadic Magic team that was on fire for the Cavs series and then cooled off for the Finals and got swept?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Actuallly I think the 2007 season was a big part of the problem, had they lost to Detroit they probably would have made some long term minded trades instead of swapping in bodies to try and get over the hump. Mike Brown probably wouldn't have lasted as long either. All spectulation anyway, not that it matters now. Looks like 2011-12 season will be a lockout ....

And the always popular, "Boxers or briefs?" That seems like the 3rd or 4th time you have said that in this thread. Ok I am really starting to hate LeBron based on the fact that I keep thinking about him. If he wanted to be in the heads of millions he succeeded. He really is the anti-Iverson. More interested in winning a title than personal stats or being an all-time great.

Hmmmmm. Do you think Dan Gilbert is going to be lobbying for a hard salary cap at the owners meetings? Another excellent op-ed by Terry Pluto about seeing and hearing what we wanted to hear out of LBJ. http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/blog/index.ssf/2010/07/fooled_by_a_different_lebron_j.html#comments

Comment that sums it up nicely from the Windhorst article on ESPN explaining Dan Gilbert's letter. stanfrombrooklyn (7/9/2010 at 1:19 PM) Report Violation The point of the article is that the Cavaliers organization made a lot of long-term commitments to appease LBJ and he wouldn't do the same. Had he signed an extension last year then Bosh and Stoudamire might have gone to Cleveland. Or maybe even Wade. Who knows? It's like you ask a girl to marry you and she says you have to quit smoking weed. So you quit smoking weed. Then she says you have to quit the Jack and Cokes. So you quit the Jack and Cokes. Then she asks you to quit going out every night with the boys. So you stay home with her and watch Project Runway. Then after you've done all that, she turns down your marriage proposal. You're left with nothing but your wiener in your hand.

Must be the city then. Maybe they should rebuild their downtown. Neither DWade nor Lebron wanted to play there. DWade needed the max contract from Miami because he will be 33 the next go around and he is injury prone. This could be his last chance for the big dollars. So it really was worth the extra $30M or so to him. Also he just got divorced...

Not the first by any means. But probably the first leaving for less money, after his teams have the best records two years in a row at the prime of his career. I can't think of anybody who left under such favorable conditions. Usually they leave to chase the money either under their own accord or from pressure from the players union. Or at the end of their carreers chasing championships.

Oh for the kids we have an LBJ jersey, a Frye jersey and a Quinn Jersey. And Haftner and Sizemore Indians shirts (matter of time). Started to wise up and buy non-player specific fan gear. EDIT: The Frye jersey was a gift I believe. Even I could see that was a poor investment. Although I do make sure the kids wear Browns gear on Football sundays, even last year after I quit watching the games around week 8.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I guess this as a good of place for this as anywhere. Pulled this chart out when I started looking at Cleveland vs Miami in the Cavaliers Thread. Cuyahoga county has the lowest unemployment rate out of the US and Ohio (and Franklin county too). Why are we viewed nationally as being so depressed? Is this just perception lagging behind reality? Our population is stagnant, spreading out but basically stagnant which indicates stability. We are not a booming economy but just average and stable, which is a hell of a lot better than the national perception of us. http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=usunemployment&met=unemployment_rate&idim=county:CN390350&dl=en&hl=en&q=unemployment+cuyahoga+county+oh#met=unemployment_rate&idim=state:ST390000&idim=county:CN390350&tdim=true
