Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Who knows? That's why it's in this thread... Debatable indeed I suspect Lakewood has some double counting going on because they offer a few different variations of the tests according to the double asterisk (ie the same kid taking the same subject on a different test). I'll take the good press. "I wish we would of had AP back at Polk High!"

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
http://www.newsweek.com/feature/2010/americas-best-high-schools/list.html Not a Forbes article but a Newsweek article ranking Highschools. From what I read it appears they heavily based their ranking on access to AP and other advance curiculms. Basis of the index is number of AP tests taken divided by graduated seniors. The study chose this methodology because they found that many schools were concerned with AP passing rates and only let those who they were fairly certain would pass take the tests. My hood, Lakewood does very well under this arbitrary method. The ranking is the national number. The list is for the schools in the state of Ohio in order. 65 Walnut Ridge Columbus OH 4.644 19 84 77 Wyoming Wyoming OH 4.376 6 78.2 121 Chagrin Falls Chagrin Falls OH 3.74 2.93 64.2 190 Indian Hill Cincinnati OH 3.312 3 65.5 196 Solon Solon OH 3.26 2 56.4 229 Lakewood ** Lakewood OH 3.072 30 56 245 Bexley Bexley OH 3.021 6 60 324 Olentangy Liberty Powell OH 2.711 3 55.5 377 Orange Pepper Pike OH 2.543 10 38.8 424 Dublin Jerome ** Dublin OH 2.435 1 54.5 435 Ottawa Hills Ottawa Hills OH 2.421 0 53.2 471 Aurora ** Aurora OH 2.353 1 49.8 509 Beachwood Beachwood OH 2.263 3 41.1 622 Upper Arlington ** Upper Arlington OH 2.083 0 47 626 Dublin Coffman **Dublin OH 2.076 8 38.3 687 Bay Bay Village OH 1.989 6.22 45.3 688 Dublin Scioto **Dublin OH 1.989 23 30.3 694 Mariemont Cincinnati OH 1.982 6 44.8 777 Hudson Hudson OH 1.85 5 44 Oh yeah take that Rocky river, you didn't even make the list....I jest...

UrbanOhio Parents & Families
Key words "professional" and "office". That's what I'm worried about. Without knowing the office culture, I gave him some advise on how he should act. Hopefully it didn't include pounding out messages on UO allday. :) You should point him towards Mayday. The guy gets a job and disappears...

Bonus for the "Brewster's millions" reference. I see nothing wrong with the decor as long as you are a Russian mobster, Rod Blagojevich or coke dealer living in South Beach. Was there a closet full of coordinated warm up suits?

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I like the way you think. A district with university on both ends and the Clinic in the middle should be able to support it self nicely. I was kind of approaching this train of thought post-mortem, why has the brain drain been so bad in Cleveland? The obvious thought in my mind was how many people ended up in Columbus because they went to OSU? The demographic I am talking about here aren't your "Case students/rocket scientists" but your average fairly smart college graduates that are neeeded to be the base of todays workforce. They stayed in Columbus because the university attracted companies that allowed them to find jobs in Columbus. Said students, are either leaving CLE to go to school and not coming back or never came to CLE to go to school.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Bump on this thread to pick up on the discussion regarding the NEO Brain drain in the "I love Cleveland thread" My whole point that started the tangent is that Cleveland loses a lot of smart kids because there is not a large university in the city.

Good to hear.Who knows maybe I will be one of those graduates someday (CM law..HMMM). Both of my siblings got their masters at CSU. And they are still in the area. I guess I should point out they both moved out of state (FLA and CO) and came back.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
That seems to be the consensus. I was at the game last night and we were quoting the movie too. Saw a post on FB today too by John Chandler (Former channel 5 weekend sportscaster now in Boston) saying the same thing. It is really weird being at the Jake when there is nobody there. Very creepy. Russel Branyon got the Jake quote. "His knees are shot, I wish we had him 4 years ago" "We did" " Well I wish we had him 8 years ago" Looking at the roster "This guy is dead." "Cross him off the list the list then" "I thought you said there was no highpriced talent on the team?" "Dorn? He is just high priced" All quotes are from memory so don't crucify me if they aren't 100%

oops RnR. My bad...Sounds like a fun trip. Never be held hostage by your kids though. Take the vacation. Also benadryl/dramamine works wonders! :) :drunk: I am sure you figured out how to handle it :drunk: GFI, Depends on the situation. If it is a steam system you are pretty limited (they are also highly ineffiecent) but if it is a hot water system you have more options. Most of the radiators out of europe are for hotwater, you will have a problem finding ones for steam. Boilers are expensive (x2) compared to forced air units. Take a look at the high volume microduct systems for forced air. They can be installed much more easinly and discretely.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Larkin must of had something good in his prune juice the morning he wrote that. How uncharacteristic... Nice piece. The comments section gave me a brain cramp. Touching upon the brain drain section for a moment, did you notice how many of the people Larkin talked about came to Cleveland for school and fell in love? I really feel like Cleveland's lack of a large university has compounded the brain drain by not bringing an influx or preserving the current stock of young intelligent people, when compared to Ohio State or University of Cinncy. I am fully behind CSU expanding as damn big as the want to. I have tried adding up Case, JCU and BW but there are similar sized schools in Cincy and C-Bus too, in addition to the big institutes. So I think they end up being a wash, I know that Cleveland students go to Akron and Kent too. But I don't think they do anything to draw people into the city or entice them to stay in the region. Jobs are king after you graduate, I also realize that. So it's a chicken and the egg deal on how to keep/attract young people to the city.
