Shaker Heights, Solon best highschools in Cleveland area for national merit.
This discussion has become very interesting. Although I really feel like a dumb public school from the country after reading all of these posts. Link to the complete list: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/09/national_merit_scholarship_sem_1.html

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Seriously, to me the notion of regional government has more to do with the poaching of business from one city to another to support their city tax base when the growth to the region as a whole is zero. There is a lot of that goes on and it is damaging. And I am not to limiting the notion of regionalism to just Cuyahoga county, because Avon is on the record saying that they need their new interchange to attract business to bolster their tax base because as of right now they can't afford all of the infrastructure needed for the new housing. We should be focusing on policy to bring new business in the region and not having a company move a mile into your city limits.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Wow you east siders are a crazy bunch... Start small, citites can remain sovereign but merge Fire and EMS into larger districts first and if that works out maybe merge police districts next. Schools would be last. There is a lot of fat to be trimmed and spread around in the Fire depts. Due to individual city rules some are overstaffed and some cities leech on their neighbors based on sharing agreements, knowing that the neighborring city's dept can be there with in 5 minutes. Police might be trickier, no ideas on that one. We have a lot of very good school districts in the Cleveland suburban school districts, it would be great if they could designate each district to have a magnet curriculum at the separate highschools along with their general ed/ college ed and do open enrollment (limited by openings available). Just a couple of ideas.

Best Movies Ever Made?
I tend to agree on most of the movies talked about above, but I will throw in some odd categories. Best Surfing/ Bank Robbery Movie: Point Break Best Bowling/ Stoner Movie: The Big Lebowski Best Sci Fi/Action: The Matrix (2 and 3 are crap but the first one kept me up all night thinking about it) Best Mob Movie based on true events: Goodfellas (with Donnie Brasco a close second)

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Matt Fish invited those who had gotten the MELT tattoos to be the crowd in the restaurant while they were taping. Our friend had gotten one and was invited to be there at 10 AM on Saturday. Apparently there are other perks besides 25% off for life...

Favorite Music At The Moment?
What kicked me off on a Massive Attack kick was an old promo CD for the old Sony "Modern Rock Live" radio show that I randomly decided to listen to when flippin through the CD book in my car. There was a killer live in studio version of "Karmacoma" on it that made me load some older stuff on my ipod and download the new album "Heligoland".

I take my kids to the Cleveland zoo for the hills! A walk up to the primate house or the bear/tigers will tire them out pretty good... Note the Columbus Zoo does not honor the Cleveland Zoo pass, I found that out last fall. We had a evening Saturday wedding in C-bus and took the kids thinking we would hit the zoo for a few hours. Ended up going on Sunday because it was going to be $50 for a little over an hour if we went on Saturday afternoon. I enjoyed the Columbus zoo though once we got there.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Forbes has it in for Cleveland. There's proof!: Michael K. McIntyre's Tipoff By Michael K. McIntyre March 01, 2010, 6:30AM It turns out Forbes.com really does have it in for Cleveland. That's not just conspiracy theory babble among those who see a pattern in Forbes most recent polls, one calling us the worst weather city and the other saying we're the most miserable.... I hope you have at least one set of twins :-o :-o I would recommend a zoo membership to anybody with kids, its a great way to get of the house for a few hours in the winter to run the kids around. It wouldn't be worth it to pay full admission, but a couple of those short trips pay for themselves over the year. Also lot of the animals are active on a nice 30 degree sunny day as opposed to when it's warm and they just sit there sleeping. We were there a few weeks ago and watched the reindeer butting antlers for 15 minutes because they were really getting into it. And if the weather is really crapastic you can take them to the rainforest at the Cleveland zoo.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Progress is being made! LMN Architects of Seattle chosen by Cuyahoga County and MMPI Inc. to design medical mart and convention center in Cleveland By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer February 25, 2010, 10:30AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Patience has paid off for LMN Architects. Today, the Seattle-based architecture firm will be named conceptual designer of what Cleveland hopes will be the nation's first medical mart, plus a rebuilt Cleveland convention center. The firm has sought on and off for 11 years to design a new convention center in Cleveland. Jeffrey Appelbaum, an attorney hired by Cuyahoga County to assist the project, said he will announce at a meeting of the Cuyahoga County Commissioners that the county and MMPI Inc. of Chicago made the choice to go with LMN over two other finalists for the project.... Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I agree, and I'll take it a step further. I've been living in Indianapolis for the last four years, and I can say I'd much rather be one of many passionate hard-luck Browns fans than be associated with the Indy fan base that had 11 people show up at the airport to welcome home the Colts after the Super Bowl. 11!!! Incredible. Personally, I'd much rather be a part of a passionate fan base that doesn't have much to cheer for than a weak fan base that barely shows up when their team wins. Unfortunately, that doesn't make being a Browns fan much easier. My friends bother who is a die hard Browns fan is living in Indianapolis too, and basically said that the Colts fans are really limp noodles. No passion and most of them really don't know much about football (As opposed to Browns Fans who think they know "everything" about football)
