  1. Isn't this why MMPI was chosen in the first place? Because they get things done? Believe me if this MM/CC works nobody will remember a thing about the silly Mall C proposal and the threaten use of ED.

I am working at home today sitting at the kitchen table with my laptop, and apparently I am the doorman for our dogs to go in and out of the house to play in the snow. It's not a pet peeve yet but it is getting old really quick.

Rob, Kudos on making it this long without a snowblower. That is an impressive feat, although how much snow do you usually get in FW a year? I know that you have been pounded this year. Maybe just pay the nieghbor kid and support the local economy, it might be cheaper :)

One thing that we need to think about, is that if there is truly a need for this position, the job market will move and the salary will rise to the point where a person can afford to pay the sunk cost (mostly educational) and the taxes. A example the job market adjusting is that usually the exact same job in Texas will pay less than one in one Ohio, because Texas has no income lower tax and slightly cheaper housing but your take home pay will be roughly the same. And for what will make America rise again? The post war boom was largely due to the rest of the industrialized world be blown to bits and the flow of money from the GI Bills allowing the emergance of a true middle class. It was a self sustaining cycle for around 25 years until the rest of the world got up and running again or industrialized. What do I wish for? I would love to see the US make products again, not just assemble parts shipped over from Japan (I am looking at you Toyota, I know that Honda actually builds most the accord from the ground up in Ohio). I think we need to reevaluate education, everybody needs an education but not everyone "needs" to go college. Especially when a large part of our industry is service based.

Relax it's just a hypothetical discussion on an anonymous internet forum :) All that I am trying to say is that a person isn't going to say,"Crap it will cost me more to do option A than I can make so I am going to go home and sit on the couch and eat Frito's instead." That's my whole point, it really isn't an either/or proposition, more of a scope and scale of the work.

I agree that returning to 90% would throw things out of wack, but I still think that a motivated individual would still put their energy into an Option B which would have a higher ROI than getting a professional degree and paying back student loans at a loss. I am sure when you made your decision to get your professional degree you looked at several options (private schools vs public, etc) and made your decision on assumptions based on the current rules. If the rules change, the scenarios change and then you weigh your options.

Still waiting to meet a person to whom this timeless adage actually applies. "I don't want to share another marginal 10% of my proceeds, so I'll just stop working. If I have an idea that will make me money, I'll choose not to go ahead with it, because my ROI would be reduced by taxes. Never mind that this would result in zero ROI. I'd rather have no return at all than pay a higher marginal tax rate on it. That'll show em." Bingo. I have never understood this argument beyond a conceptual level. This might make sense if humans were purely rational beings but we are not. If I am a motivated person, I am going to achieve as much as my god given skills and situation will permit.
  8. Allan we would love to see a photo thread on the rehab.
  9. I would have to look it up but I think my rebuild would be about 1/3 larger than the market price.
  10. I think that one of the biggest indicators of this is the insured rebuild price vs the market price of older homes in stable markets such as Lakewood.

I'll second Austin Home Brew Supply...My brother just made a keg boiler so we can starting brewing with all grain. KJP, don't worry you can still get a 12 pack of highlife long necks for $7.00 out the door including tax at most places... MMMM Stroh's America's only fire brewed beer. We drank a lot of Stroh's in college.
  12. Three words: Vinyl Sided Chimney
  13. I would be interested to see if this going on in other cities right now. I don't remember this being a problem when I worked downtown 5 years ago. But to RNR's original HOB complaint, that is BS. As long as you post your modified hours that is fine.

Spaceballs only works as parody of Star Wars. If you aren't in on the jokes, I guess it wouldn't be that funny... How about Young Frankenstein you two? Any love for that?

Haha. my wife finally watched recently all of the Star Wars with our kids and really got into, after all of the years of acting like I was stupid for liking it.... She even liked the Phantom Menance, which after watching it again isn't that bad. It was just a huge let down based on expectations of the "new" Star Wars movie. New pet peeve for me. Listening to my brother bitch last night while we were eating there that the food at Momocho isn't really Mexican and that the term Mod Mex is dumb. Shut up and enjoy the damn food....whatever it is called.

Hi I am CBC, and I am still battling a "effects/affects" problem. It causes me to pause and look uncomfortable when I take the time to figure out which word to use, come to think of it that is a major pet peeve about myself. A major lack of language skills, I am barely fluent in English which has made learning a second language nearly impossible...

You should give him a quarter everytime he uses it....
  21. That is also another beautiful thing about the cement board siding, it only needs painted every 10 to 15 years.
  22. I agree with Doc Broc. The cementboard/ composite siding is worlds better than vinyl/ steel (try to find aluminum siding today) siding in the wind, especially when you face nail it. it is just too easy for the wind to get between the vinyl siding and the sheathing and tear it off. When I first read Clueless's piece above my first thought was that wood siding/composite just holds up better in the wind. There are a large number of wood sided houses in Lakewood right on the lake. I used the cementboard to reside an addition on my house and by the time you are done caulking and painting there are barely any cracks for the wind to get it and pry the siding off.
