Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'm a little surprised families would turn out today to ride and criticize. But if you say so. There were large crowds at every stop I saw as I headed back across the river at around 1p. Passing any judgement about speed today is premature for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just want to pipe in and say what a great job the speakers did at the ceremony. It was classy that @John Schneider had Cranley sign the shovel first. The energy built to a crescendo as Yvette and Wendel whip the crowd up for the Red Bike power up - a great idea too! I consider the program a huge success! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Is it just me or has the hotel construction slowed? I was there over the weekend and expected to see much more progress. And I know it's been lamented before but could they have found a way to NOT build the hotel the EXACT SAME HEIGHT as everything else?

NFL: General News & Discussion
Yep. Just terrible news about Teddy. His official statement (which was not done by the team's PR) was strong! I want to thank the Wilf Family and the entire Vikings organization, all of my teammates, friends, Eric Sugarman and the amazing Vikings athletic training staff and the fans who have sent me messages and wished me well. Your thoughts and prayers mean a lot to me and have helped me in this difficult time. There are great players and great leaders in our locker room who are going to fight to the end to reach the goals we set for 2016. I will be there mentally, physically and in spirit to support them accomplish those goals. In order to have a testimony, you have to have a test. I come from amazing DNA, I watched my mom fight and win against breast cancer. We will, as a team, attack my rehab with the same vigor and energy. My faith is strong, my faith is unwavering and my vision is clear. My purpose will not be denied.

Kroger's relevance in Uptown just took a hit. Millennials will respond kindly to Target.

I trust Knochelmann but I hope the others involved don't screw this up. IIRC, much of the warehouse (which I think was contemporary with the tower) was demolished after Jillian's shuttered. With $25 million budgeted, how could you NOT save the entire thing?

Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI recall some chatter about Senhauser having looked at this site. Any chance they jump back in on it? EDIT: Not likely, as I looked back and they bailed for the same reason. Perhaps, 3rd and BW become more attractive now?

Weather
I was out and about in NoKY taking my son to an audition. 275 between CVG and Crestview was a wall of water. Dozens of vehicles were pulled of because of the blinding rain. Although not as bad as some areas in Cincy, Dixie Highway in Erlanger, Crestview, and Lakeside flowed like a river. Been a while since I've seen one like that. As and aside, what ever Mike's Carwash puts on my windshield is magic. I barely had to use my wipers in what was surely some of the most blinding rain.

Uh no I'm not going to assume that at all. They sound like a bunch of idiots who ran a terrible business. I agree. Really, I was trying to be diplomatic. Who know whether someone offered up a racial slur. It only takes one idiot of a different ilk and we've got a "hostile neighborhood". OTOH, the motivation behind this is pretty questionable since most releases like this express deep gratitude to the whole community (or at least in part) for support. I saw it as bluster.

Seems like I remember some pretty hard evidence on here that a CVG line would have very low ridership as opposed to a commuter-centric Florence/Union line with a CVG spur. A much more needed Southbank river-cities connector should be the priority. I'd also respectfully disagree on a Mt. Adams tram. I'm thinking a hanging tram that provides views and access for leisure and business commuters alike. The distance for Mt. Adams is so short that high-speeds are not critical. I seem to remember thebillshark[/member] maybe having something like this?

Sad to see this and can only assume that their grievances are valid. But a press release like this is truly odd.

Yeah, the second video is great. I've watched that a few times and it never gets old. I mean, what sort of shortcoming in life do you have to be a victim of to have that much aggression pent up?

Do the cars look nice, Yes. did people spend a lot of time picking them out? probably. Did they utterly fail in their task? Absolutely. This is not about football or sports but branding. Pittsburgh yellow is not about the steelers, the whole town takes on that color. All sports teams and Pitt University incorporate it. The bridges, trains, buses, etc do. We are the center of Branding, it is time to do it right. Don't do some crappy job, make it all about Cincinnati, pick colors that symbolize us. Red, Black, orange, blue are all colors that are more Cincinnati than Yellow. Good for Cincy Bell. Agreed. Too much branding talent in this town to miss that. I share your sentiment. It's also an opportunity for Uptown and NoKY to push for planning and PR support as opposed to corporate Joe showing up on Super Bowl Sunday with a bag of cash and riding the streetcar's popularity coattails. I'm not sure I follow...the deal is for $340,000/year. How does that only save the taxpayers $1/year? The city's population is about 300,000. Do the math. We have to quit holding our hand out as a society to these corporations to support the arts and civic projects. They pay significantly less federal and state tax than they did 30-50 years ago, back when there was hardly any national debt. Their executives paid much higher income tax as well. Locally, they are given property tax abatements and even have employee municipal earnings tax given back to corporate (GE at the banks). The firm that acquired the contract also took a 38% commission. Do the math again!

2016 Rio Olympics
Dude, you actually got that close to her? Wow! My women's studies teacher in college spent most of the semester talking about athletics, or rather complaining about the lack of attention to women's athletics. This was 15 years ago, so obviously some women's sports have become more prominent, but there continues to be a denial by some that men compete at a much higher level in every sport in which both men and women do the same thing. In some sports, an average man (serious amateur) can compete with elite women, like running and cycling. In others, like tennis, the Williams sisters could mow down pretty much every amateur male tennis player in the world. The U.S. women do so well in the Olympics because we have huge youth athletics programs + Title IX which gives scholarships to obscure sports like rowing. I knew a girl in college who was approached by the rowing team and got a full scholarship for several years in exchange for getting up early and rowing 5 days a week and going to a few meets every year. I only caught the tail end of it so I'm unfamiliar but there was a woman runner in like the 800m that they went on and on about before the race about the sanctioning body trying to issue a ruling on gender. What is that all about?
