Cincinnati: Kroger
I've always thought it'd be great to have a local TV station broadcasting from the 2nd or 3rd floor of Carew Tower with Fountain Square a sa back drop... I think it was WKRC that used to broadcast from the lobby of Fifth-Third Center.

Seeing Freedom Way on that sign reminds me how much I dislike it. We need grassroots to change it to Pearl Street.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Not sure if this has been analyzed by UOers but what does everyone think of this plan to change ramps? https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/nkyunited/pages/111/attachments/original/1450801137/Brent_Spence_Entry_and_Exit_Improvements_w_Existing.pdf

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Artistry
Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'd totally settle for two. It looks like if we are just talking about the old Montgomery Inn lot there would be room. Agree on the designs. I think they would add a touch of modern and def refresh the look when juxtaposed with the architectural version of a Members Only jacket, 1LP.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Artistry
Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell if it's Novare Group then it's no leap to assume that there will be highrise development, no? They look like they pretty much go big or go home. Those Skyhouse buildings that are currently under development look like they are spec and all are ~25 stories. That would look great in that are of the CBD/Riverfront. Edit: Those buildings are all ~285ft. Parking? Maybe that's used to get it out of the FP. I may be getting way ahead of myself here but could this be +300' or will we get another scaled down "Cincinnati" version of things. Also, what happens with that corner of DT if this comes to bear. There's a relative lack of services over there.

^That's a sobering argument jmicha[/member]. The problem with the bridge is and always will be its location, no?. Jake probably has a better grasp of the history on the Ohio side but Covington and Kenton County business interests drove the location of the Covington-Florence Expressway to dive down the Willow Run Creek valley to put traffic directly into Covington. This either created or exacerbated the alignment on the Ohio side to conflict the CWB approaches. Hence the ridiculously high Ohio BSB approaches.

Xavier University Musketeers Athletics Discussion
The Muskies are looking legit. With Louisville forfeiting a possible Final Four, I will be rooting hard for X this year! Time for a Cincy team to win a championship.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the agency was an out of town agency and was overpaid by $100,000s.

Cincinnati: I-71 Improvements / Uptown Access Project (MLK Interchange)
I always marveled at the design for the original FWW. It had to be the mindset of that day and age to place so many sooo many ramps in such a small space. They had to be redundantly redundant. Wasn't there like an Exit 1K?

TN 840 (77-mile Nashville bypass)
Sherman Cahal[/member] You adeptly point out why it only exists in the dreams of suburban homebuilders. It will never happen. And I don't mean it will never happen like people in 1960 would have said the Butler Regional Highway would never happen. I mean it will NEVER happen. :yap:

Cincinnati: Uptown: UC Athletic Facilities
^Wiki. That festival was hosted there and created consternation afterward due to behavior. But it was far from the only concert ever held there. Several concerts were held there throughout the 1960s and 1970s. CSO had summer series there in the 60s. Edgar Winter Group (and Frampton's Camel) had the gates crashed in July 1973. Grand Funk Railroad a week later in 1973...which also had riotous behavior.

Cincinnati: Kroger
Nice. What's up with that signage that says nothing of Thirftway at all except the collection of letters actually spells it? I don't remember that branding at all. What, pray tell, are you doing digitizing old vids? A project we should know about?

Fast Food
What's the deal with McD's having right side drive-thrus? Is that in Manchester or is the pic reversed? Personally, I think these new styles are just fine. There's more value for these big brands in upgrading their image than using the shape of a building as branding.

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
So it's a balance of refilling the rehabs and who is moving out vs. who is moving in. I'd guess that emigration is greater than immigration because lower income/higher occupancy is being replaced by higher income/lower occupancy and the volume of rehabs and new construction aren't making up the slack. Thoughts?
