Why are young people driving less?
Meanwhile, developers tout live/work/play neighborhoods ad nauseum and everyone I know under age 35 is buying homes in the core and inner-ring. Keep trying to convince us that everybody loves sitting in a car 60-120 minute a day. Add another lane so it can immediately fill up. Reduced SOV is cited multiple times in the plan. Read this as bikeways, I suppose.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
You're ignoring this section of that article: The situation at CVG seems to be a much more likely candidate for deterring a company like GE from relocating its HQ to Cincinnati. That's a long term problem. Kasich will be gone by the time GE starts building a new office somewhere. GE is just drumming up interest in (and outrage about) the export/import bank, something that most people have never even heard of. Yeah. I'm curious to hear more from you guys on this. But if CVG were such a deterrent, why locate the NAGOC here? Does that employee profile not travel?

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
It's interesting that something like shootings, which seem like each would be an isolated incident, can ebb and flow in this manner. It makes you wonder what really drives shootings, and human behavior in general for that matter. How much of the blame for an increase in shootings in Cincinnati can realistically be attributed to Blackwell, when shootings have risen across the nation during the same period? My uneducated and non-statistically based guess would be that it's sociological. By that I mean that they are typically peer groups of interconnected people with beef over turf over those seeking revenge. It seems almost all shootings where there is a random victim is collateral to an assassination.

Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhat a yummy pic. Nice find. What I notice: 1. Obviously the density of OTR. 2. Northern 1/5 of WashPa with buildings!

I know I patronized Indy's Nordstrom one time because of this exact reason. Bought a $50 neck tie before there was such a thing in "regular joe" stores.

Macy's leaving downtown would be uhm, catastrophic (too strong). But Macy's is looking at things like converting the top floors of it's Herald Square flagship into condo. I thought I had heard they did his with a Brooklyn store. Not sure what their arrangement is with FSW but a similar tactic/exit seems part of the LT strategy.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Heritage Bank Center
It's very rare for a metropolitan area over 1 million not to have a downtown (or nearby ala UD Arena or Scope in Norfolk) arena, regardless if a university plays there or not. Hell, even Huntington has Big Sandy Superstore Arena! That is a complete assault on the eyes.

I also thought the "Yardhouse Fill" is appropriate as well. It makes for a more earthy and significant landing for Roebling begin on terra firma. But no that you pointed it out, it is essentially an island. It really has no function at all as a levee since it is surrounded by garage on three sides and open air on the fourth. Is this correct or do the park reception areas and utilities continue that far north under the lawn?

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionReally the only area of the NKY core that fell victim to 1960's large-swath urban renewal is the IRS supercenter. Covington sold part of it's soul for that warehouse of bureaucracy.

I agree that buildings should be lifted out of the flood plain, but wouldn't a stilt structure accomplish that? Basically the parking garage without the second (middle) level complicating things and increasing the cost? I'm not getting the logic in this. Buildings on two story stilts? What would the space be used for underneath? It has to be used in some way other than maybe growing mushrooms. Does adding parking decks add significant cost? Yes. But it also gives the space underneath the ability to earn money back toward the investment while serving the purpose of surmounting the flood plain. The middle deck(s) are the supply that meets the demand.

"The private development above the phase 3 parking garage is expected to be up to $125 million and include up to 400,000 square feet of space." Any one care to guess what this will end up looking like as far as massing and height?

I think that rendering is outdated so who knows on the surface parking. Vacating the spaces IS asinine. Those garages are never going to be full. Anytime I've been in there, even on event days, there are rows of open spots in the farther flung wings. Did anybody notice the wording in some of the press yesterday? That this is a $XX million dollar extension of the Intermodal Transit Center. On the restaurant thing, the Skyline at Main and Freedom is genius. And when I envision "flagship", I see where these could be creative about creating buzz by including merchandise POS and giving the location the "Flagship" or "Original" moniker (newness of the location notwithstanding). One thing is true, The Banks certainly provides plenty to stay interested in and seemingly will for another 8-20 years.

Back to the restaurant thing: I supposed Friday's was the worst example possible. You expressed my thoughts better than I did. Essentially I still feel a little sheepish about taking 3 boys under age 10 into YH and MLH (and especially HG) anytime after say 3PM since they are so "beer oriented". I'm not a prude, I readily enjoy the brews when we do go, but I feel like the lids stick out a bit. A place like Rainforest would be good. Not that familiar with Giordano's. Heck, for that matter, why would LaRosa's not build a flagship there on the lawn? (I think we've covered this before.) http://www.wcpo.com/money/local-business-news/exclusive-chicago-style-pizza-giant-giordanos-eyes-cincinnati-as-expansion-market

You guys will hate me for saying this and I think that space is much to high-profile for such a thing but The Banks needs a suburban slop-house like Fridays, et al.
