  1. Yes. Biggest thing is this fills some very underutilized blocks in a part of CBD that has many underutilized blocks. Losing 75' of height takes it from substantial to notable in terms of effect on the skyline. Either way, if you look at the site and imagine you can see the project is pretty massive.
  2. Any reason why this couldn't wait if the cars won't be here until November? Seems they will have to do it again. Also, how does this cleanliness maintain itself over time? Do the cars crush any detritus or do they have to sporadically vacuum? Thanks!
  3. ^Could the Joseph family be loosening their grip on CBD? Aren't they the owners of the worst surface lots?
  4. Those are render only. From what I've heard those won't see the light of day. I see what you did there. I thought I had heard they would be projected onto the building. Now you see what he did there. Haha!
  5. IAGuy: Reading your post gets me excited. The extent to which the street wall is so complete north of 12th on Main really gives it a feleling of being a special place.

^I usually ended up spending the whole time spotting when that happened.
  7. ^The orange would probably be faded by 2019. ;)
  8. Fits right in with his 1960s American view.
  9. Noticed last night that the GE building has skin up to about the 4th floor. Moving right along. Viewing from the direction of PBS, you realize that GE along with the apartments are pretty massive, especially compared to their predecessors a few blocks east. Also there's quite a bit of equipment on site and the area is fenced off for the new garage construction. This garage will really provide a huge pad for further development. It's be nice to see the garage finished and development happening atop by this time next year but I'm sure that's pushing it.
  10. What would you say are the worst surface lots in CBD?

No way the Bengals do that given Mike Brown's history. In Newport the new KY9 will be routed in a way that precludes this even if Ovation never happens. At least that's my take. How about we seize on this to bring some life to lower Queensgate. Fifth and Freeman OR Linn and Ges.. Turn those brownfield into green!
  12. Sheesh, wasn't this project slated to start in earnest way back when? Those meddling kids.
  13. ^I already did last week. Maybe I will resubmit. I get it. I know to ignore them but it stood out to me because it seems more and more like the CBD bums are content to hold signs and the OTR bums will ask. The asking is what's annoying because it's a crime. I do not acknowledge them and I guess I would hope that there is a panhandler code to avoid people with young children.
  14. $1 billion residential community getting started along Ohio River After a quarter of a century of assembling land and weathering the nation’s roughest recession, Toebben Builders is finally getting started on the $1 billion Rivers Pointe Estates community in Hebron. John Toebben, president of Crescent Springs-based Toebben Builders, said the community is starting with a first phase that includes eight river-view home sites called the Reserve. “It’s been a long endeavor,” John Toebben told me. “But these homes will have the best views of the river.” Even though the builder is just now marketing the first phase, Toebben said two home sites have been pre-sold. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/08/05/exclusive-1-billion-residential-community-getting.html Sorry...meant to put this in the NKY random thread.
  15. Banks hotel design gets panel’s OK Cincinnati’s Urban Design Review Board unanimously approved the final design for the AC Hotel by Marriott at the Banks on Thursday. The approval comes after months of back-and-forth between developer Winegardner & Hammons and the panel, which reviews all design decisions for downtown Cincinnati and advises the city manager on them. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/08/06/banks-hotel-design-gets-panel-s-ok.html
  16. Took my 9 year old child to Lumenocity the other night. He's developed quite a love for the city and is a budding urbanophile. One troubling thing was the amount of times we were panhandled. I mean, right in front of Senate too! It wasn't like we were being hit up on side streets.

http://www.wcpo.com/sports/baseball/reds/pete-rose-denies-statutory-rape-allegation-made-by-investigator-john-dowd I think Dowd has lost his mind. Under this assumption, this could actually end up benefiting Rose because it makes Dowd, a lawyer and presumably objective investigator, sound like a quack.
  18. ^That's because UK fans are dorks.
  19. ^Doesn't PR have some influence? Building buzz?
  20. Worlds are colliding right here on UO. I think both sides of what I'm reading here have merit. Perception is reality.
  21. It looks shopped...I can tell by the pixels and...
  22. ^The "New Cold War with Russia" thread?
  23. I can still remember driving across it. Headed south, the lanes seemed narrow. Probably 11 feet. Unexpectedly as you got to the middle of the bridge, the lanes narrowed further. Maybe even as little as 10 feet. Who knows/remembers this?
  24. Average attendance figures across all NCAA sports (and professional sports) has been trending down for years. When you have increasing access to see games in the comfort of your own home, not as many diehards want to make the 30-60 minute commute to and from games, not to mention ticket and parking costs. I'd rather see a game in person, but the trend is what it is. Decreasing seats is the right call. Make the environment more intimate. If we are talking about basketball, this is not accurate. Add to that that we are in the most popular region for college basketball. College basketball attendance is trending down on an overall average attendance level. You have to look beyond attendance/game because D1 is adding schools like Neb. Omaha, Presbyterian, UMASS Lowell, Incarnate Word (Who!?), etc. that have abysmal attendance and drag averages down. Total attendance is stable. Year Teams Games Total DI Avg 1995 302 4,177 23,560,495 5,641 1996 305 4,213 23,542,652 5,588 1997 305 4,228 23,190,856 5,485 1998 306 4,265 23,282,774 5,459 1999 310 4,346 23,815,296 5,480 2000 318 4,508 24,281,774 5,386 2001 318 4,538 24,100,555 5,311 2002 321 4,634 24,499,611 5,287 2003 325 4,654 25,001,678 5,372 2004 326 4,694 25,548,468 5,443 2005 326 4,756 25,366,317 5,334 2006 326 4,756 25,808,346 5,426 2007 325 4,994 27,705,912 5,548 2008 328 5,093 28,135,901 5,524 2009 330 5,163 27,767,111 5,378 2010 334 5,251 27,539,459 5,245 2011 335 5,275 27,626,165 5,237 2012 338 5,335 27,691,051 5,190 2013 345 5,435 27,876,649 5,129 2014 345 5,489 27,519,856 5,014 2015 345 5,552 27,422,615 4,939 14% increase in teams added to D1. These are mostly teams with small gyms. 33% increase in games played. Waters down the product. Total attendance is up over 8% compared to 10 years ago. Anyway, we're OT. All things considered, I think 10,000 is a good number for UC if the primary concerns are filling the arena and maximizing ticket revenue. I do fear that a move to ACC/B12 would leave some out in the cold as opponents would be higher-profile.
