Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionAgreed. I tend to fall into the "ok with it" crowd. I missed it though, is it going into an existing building or is it new construction?

Cincinnati Enquirer
Buried in the article is the fact the Reds ponied up $10M for improvements in '09 when they didn't have to. Oh, and the improvements come from the stadium fund which is supported by a sales tax. Concern trolling, indeed.

I think that building is sweet. It's a gem and has a great back story. My grandfather worked on the project so I am biased.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I was just thinking that it would be nice to have an army of UO's pro/am photographers chronicle the streetcar construction. Suggestions?

Rabbit Hash presents: Portland 2008
From a trip I made in November, 2008. What a great city! This looks familiar for some reason. Don't call it a trolley! More here in the blog post: http://omnologist.blogspot.com/2011/08/photo-tour-portland-or-in-2008.html

You can see them in the overhead. Interestingly enough, if you go to streetview they are wire strung. Derp.

Jmicha: It's actually better than I remembered and had seen in other pictures. That particular shot is new to me and, while it still qualifies as ugly, it's not abysmally so. Jake: You must go through the box. OT: Whatever happened to the website update?

I'll reiterate: This spot had been the 5th/Race Tower or a parking lot since the early 1970s. There is demand for residential and it will have to go elsewhere with a likely smaller footprint. Still perplexed by the grumbling.

I'm sure he'd even have a go at the casino, it's horrible restaurants and all of the bothersome guests to our downtown that it will generate.

Agreed. Accelerated, not saved.

Consider this: The All-Star Game saved the streetcar. I say this because I think Duke saw the looming PR flop that the streetcar missing the ASG deadline would be pinned on them. Just a theory. Is this obvious or am I crazy. Thoughts?

Let's not get carried away. DT's most visible missing tooth is getting capped with a corporate HQ that will bring tons of weekday foot traffic - at least - and added retail. Sure it will add nothing to the skyline but will certainly improve the feel in this nook of the city. There was a day when the 5th and Race Tower was what we had here. What now? A signature tower? No. An improvement over what has been there since ca. 1971? Unquestionably. Someone mentioned earlier that having no rez here just means it will be developed elsewhere. I think that's a good outcome. In hindsight, if DH needed large floor plates, why was the huge lot on Plum b/t 4th and 5th never in the discussion? Come to think of it, that behemoth of a void is never discussed as far as I can recall for...uh, anything.
