Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
OMG, I remember that CCM garage? I had a friend who was 6'7" and he loved it too! Incidentally the elevator at KI Eiffel Tower travels at 8 mph = 11.7 feet per second or 702' per minute.

"The City of the Seventies": Louisville's "West" urban renewal, part I
^And a freeway. Jeffery...whatever happened to your thread on the southside of Louisville? I can't find the thread. I am in the process of piecing together the 1913 map of Louisville into one huge file. What history do you have on Okolona, Fairdale, so forth?

Not sure where Deadmans' Hill is but WLWT's Citicam gives a good image of this twin skyline. It is clear that one end is old and the other is new.

A Decade of.............
I completely know what you mean. I was really young in '92 but I still remember that. alright, I admit this is mainly a matter of being old and not "getting it," but just how did "culture... change overnight" in 1992?? :wtf: As far as I know no one talks about '92 the same way they do about 1968, for example, or the 60's in general. Would someone provide some examples! 1992 brought us Bill Clinton in office (good or bad) and the Rodney King saga. But I think the "culture" change element came mostly from the introduction to the maintstream of alternative rock music. Think Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" And you listed quite a bit of what I didn't but had in mind. As far as saying 1992 was the year...understand that that was the point I was trying to make...cultural change is always a process and is not confined to heuristic days of the calendar. However, you can definitely say that some changes happened quicker than others and that span from 1991 to 1993 really changed alot of things. For 9/11...oh yeah! That was a big deal.

A Decade of.............
^which brings up a larger discussion of when these cultural eras begin and end...are they single events or a tidal change? I have always thought that music and fashion are huge leading indicators of social changes. for one, i remember 1992 being a year in which popular culture seemed to change overnight (music, politics, economy, etc. all changed that year). I don't really see anything like this in the 00's.

I'm not that informed on P&G's needs but I think someone mentioned in another thread that they are allowing a portion of their workforce to work from home now. This, to me, would not bode well for requirements of +500,000 sq ft of space that would be generated from a signature tower. Thoughts? For QCS, I think once this tiara thingy is on top, it will look significantly taller than CT. I mean, the core looks as tall now!

Old Cincinnati signage...
UncleRando...PM'd you. The background on this is I am making a room with alot of my Cincinnati memorabilia in it and want to use these icons painted on the wall...I thought first of a lifelike mural but I think these will be easier to do. Well...I am quite familiar with the old brown ones that were wayfinding and parking signs for the stadium and coliseum. I don't remember though if they had the "icons" but it sounds like they did. Here is a list of ones I can remember: Fountain Square Carew Tower Union Terminal Riverfront Stadium Riverfront Coliseum (this one was laughable because of the pedestrian nature of the architecture) Public Landing (had a paddlewheeler) Any others?

^On that note. You can see the top of the core on I-75 in Erlanger and at Buttermilk Pike. Form the discussion on this thread the underinformed might think that QCSII will only appear nominally taller than CT. From these vantage points I mentioned the core alone looks as tall as CT!

Thanks for the vid. Doesn't a tree on top traditionally denote the completion of the structural steel/concrete? Maybe they mad an early exception this time with Christmas so close.

Old Cincinnati signage...
Does anyone know where I can find images or signs that still exist of the old Cincinnati landmark graphics? They are hard to describe but they included CUT, Carew, Riverfront, Music Hall, etc. The CUT webpage has one still but there used to be on for Fountain Square et al too. http://www.cincymuseum.org/ I have a room that I want to incorporate this as the painting scheme. Thanks.

I think viewing it from that due north/south angle WILL have a squatting effect on the building because of it's width. The sqaut effect is directly related to the proportion of width to height. You know like looking at Shaq vs. Kevin Garnett both about the same height but KG appears taller because he is skinny. Viewing from a 45' angle or direct E/W angle will expose the thinner side of the building and have a slimming effect. That is why I think that view from Covington's riverwalk and the accompanying overlay by Civvik has the effect it does. And the overlay looks spot on as far as how tall it will appear from that angle.

So I was down there today and what I notice from a height perspective is this: As best as I can tell the core will add two more levels and then be done. This where the roof is and the tiara begins. Add the 160 feet and you get the idea of where you eye will be when focused on the top of this behemoth.

Viewing the skyline from the Poweleit Bridge today (which we know gives us the most distant head to toe view of the skyline-thus allowing good comparison of building heights) it is evident that QCSII core is now taller than Scripps. It is apparently taller than PNC and still shorter than Carew.
