Brent Spence Bridge through the years
Here are some gems from another site! Jack Klumpe seemed to be a prolific construction photog. Notice #1, 5 and 6 how the piers on the KY approach show no overhang during initial construction for anticipated widening but #8 does. I would be curious as to a timeline of these and how the widened piers came about. Were the piers built wider in anticipation or vice-versa? Congressman Spence standing on his bridge. It would never look like this again. Classic! UC. Notice the extra pier still present for the old C&O Jefferson Street Exit A big construction photo...

They started what looks to be the steel structure for the exterior wall of the building. It started at the SE corner abutting the 303 building.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Not trying to being a pest but what would be a genuine sounding name (for the Banks and/or Freedom Way)? Of the names that were available for voting North Shore was the only one that sounded authentic to me (reminded me of Chicago). Roebling Point sounded like a subdivision and The River District sounded just awkward. 'Riverfront' seemed like the most viable and logical alternative b/c its on the river, its the name of the park, and it was the name of the baseball stadium it is replacing. Had that been an option like it was originally I think people would've voted for it. I'm sure it has been said. But I have always thought that "The Banks" name was just a thinly veiled facsimile of Cleveland's "The Flats".

Cities cleaning, 'greening' urban alleys
I did a photographic study of the alleys of DTCincy a few years back (2004). I should post them but they aren't digital.

Hair Products
You guys may laugh but I use Vaseline. Yep. Vaseline. I have thick dark hair that I keep pretty short. After spending $20/3.5 oz. of Sebastian Grease for years I discovered: Sebastian Grease - Main Ingredient: Petrolatum Vaseline - Main Ingredient: Petrolatum Vaseline = 1/4 the cost. It molds great and keeps my hair soft while giving me that nice popped wig.

I agree with you both. It wasn't a serious suggestion.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the same light but does anyone find it poetic that Carew was built/completed during the Great Depression and QCSII is being built/completed during the Almost-as-Great Recession?

Anybody had ACL reconstruction/ortho surgery?
My gosh this is something you must avoid! DO NOT blow your ACL if possible. I did playing BBall on 1/29 and had ACL reconstruction on 2/16. Pain and rehab are the operative words. Any other stories?

You make light of it, I know but...I see no way 5th & V being over 150' higher than 3rd and S. 50' maybe. Nevermind.

So how do they do the sublevels? I remember watching a show on Discovery Channel (?) about a building they were constructing in LA and they did some type of special construction for the floors below grade.

Cincinnati - The City of Seven Hills
Same place I got my info! I believe Mt. Adams at one point was an enclave for the Italian community. It was not nearly as big as other city's Italian populations, but they tended to cluster as most immigrant groups did. I believe the Hill was split pretty much 50/50 Italian and Irish if memory serves. Ransohoff was awesome! He was dying while I was taking his class...we only knew this in hindsight b/c he missed several classes. He would do this amazing thing: In the first class of the qtr. he would ask us our hometown. He would then tell us who founded it and why it was where it is. i.e. Louisville: George Rogers Clark, stop-over for the falls of the ohio. But he would pull of some pretty obscure ones too like Paulding, OH or Dry Ridge, KY. Does anyone remember the building on old Queen City Boulevard that had the Little Italy sign on it?

Grand Rapids: Developments and News
I know we hate suburbs here but Cascade and Ada are just so quaint. One of my colleagues up there is part owner of the development company that did/is doing Thousand Oaks GC. EGR is awesome too!

Cincinnati - The City of Seven Hills
Correct. As I recall the great UC Planning Professor Dr. Daniel Ransohoff (anybody else remember him?) taught us: It is the peneplain or latin(?) for nearly flat. He was a college professor who took us on field trips! We were supposed to go to the top of the Carew but someone jumped off that day...it would have be 1992-93. So we went to the overlook at Mount Adams and he demonstrated how Cincinnati is a city of valleys.

Rabbit Hash replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't think there is much in common with these two scenarios. I could be wrong. - Cincinnati - An abandoned rail tunnel and the Big Mac Bridge
