Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
From a site visit this AM: -Standing structure demolition seems to be about 3/4 done. Right now there is no structure demo occurring. It seems they are in a removal mode instead. -Overall demolition and removal of rubble is probably only 1/3 done. There will be alot of concrete to remove plus the removal of dirt to build the pilings and underground portion. If I had to guess we won't see above ground structural steel going into place until 3/09. -They have started to bring in and install the outer foundation pilings that will form the "slurry" or retaining wall. This is being started at the SE corner of the lot on 3rd Street. -Right now it is easy to get a sense of how large this garage was. With is mostly gone the lot size looks huge! This thing was relatively tall for a garage and deep (when imagining it from the 3rd street perspective.) -You can also fully see the exposed west wall of 303BW and the planned connecting portions to QCS2. -Heading south on Sycamore, you now have a nice unobstructed view of GABP. Also the huge wall viewed from 4th and Sycamore will finally be gone!

Jeff, Is all of your research primary or did you find this on the interwebs? Your post has only left me hungry for more history about this area. I grew up in these areas.

Peak Oil
Yet, if it went up $60 in the next three weeks, don't tell me you (or someone else) wouldn't use that as evidence peak oil is real as has been stated or implied this entire thread. Just that. We all know if gas were $2.50 again, everyone goes back to their old driving/spending habits. I have my suspicion of Peak Oil in the form of a question: Have we reached it? What is the exact definition of Peak Oil? Does it mean we have extracted half of all petroleum available. Have we done that or have we just extracted half of all of the $2.00/gal at the pump petroleum? In reading I find both sides of this issue make strong arguments and cite good evidence. I, for one, think that economic factors (too many to mention) have more effect on the "price at the pump" equation than geologic. Notice I said "more" which means I acknowledge that capacity is stretched thin and resources are being depleted. Despite my perceived lack of education about this issue and what I'm sure is a minority/underinformed opinion, I do endorse conservation. But for me it is more of a "cover our bets" type approach. "What if Peak Oil is upon us?" Same with Global Warming...they are both things I think we can't possibly know are happening until it is too late (think: frog in the pot) because the sampling is too small. So we have to assume, which leaves many open to coercion and manipulation. Sorry for the meandering thoughts, but what would you expect from a suburbanite...remember I must preserve my lifestyle at all cost! :rollseyes

Oil has lost nearly $30 since in 3 weeks. Peak Oil is soooo July. Discuss...

Cincinnati: The Soapbox District (W. 4th)
I agree. As a marketer myself I would. And it makes sense but I just can't get over the "it's shaped like soap" comment.

Art Deco - Cincinnati
Does that say that the time capsule is to be opened on 12/2/2008? And the original date is 1983? Not much of a capsule...25 years, meh. I have socks older... Oh, and get the child out of the fountain!

I worked out at the Carlisle/Maxim crane site (Licking Pike in Wilder, KY) when Riverfront's garage was being demo'd. They brought it there and crushed the concrete, separated the steel and recycled both. vEDIT: It was! What a mountain of aggregate it created! Our best guess was that the steel was just being taken up the road to the Newport Recycling yards and the cement was being used for the realignment of Licking Pike. The big paddlewheel on the riverfront was stored there for several months about that time too.

Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
IN HEBRON: Beginning in Autumn 2007, Kentucky Route 237 will undergo a $19 Million rerouting and improvement including widening the road to five lanes from Litton Road south of Interstate 275 to Cardinal Drive. The road will be three lanes from Cardinal Drive to just north of North Point Elementary School. The improvement will feature two roundabouts (the second and third of their type in Northern Kentucky). One will be located at Cardinal Drive, the other at Graves Road. The plans also call for bike lanes and an eight foot wide pedestrian path. Plans for the improvement can be viewed at the KTC District Six office on Buttermilk Pike. This project started in earnest the spring of this year (2008) and I have been meaning to start a project thread on it for a while now. Hebron is a quickly growing area so this improvement is sorely needed both from a volume and safety standpoint. Initial plans include sidewalks and bikelanes  General info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_Route_237 Plan info: http://www.kytc.state.ky.us/D6/KY%20237/North%20Bend%20Road%20Improvements.pdf Project Area Map (LARGE FILE): http://www.kytc.state.ky.us/D6/KY%20237/KY-237.pdf 7/1/08 - ROW and utility work continue.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
If you looked at the logo closely you would notice that many buildings are missing from the skyline, thats because the logo is based on the Price Hill view of the skyline that was present when the company started. They will not be changing/updating their logo just because we are getting a new skyscraper. http://www.gointranet.com/skynet/pics/mainLogo.gif But backwards.
