  1. So they are making the building taller and narrower to make it appear taller. This need clarification that I am sure we will get. Maybe we will be +700' now!
  2. As an extreme example, slavery was good for the economy. In what ways?
  3. ^After reading more, I saw that too!
  4. I guess I am guilty here in propogating the "tax cut" thing. It is a "prebate" against 2007 earnings as I understand it.
  5. I'm not an economist (maybe I'm just a little dim) but as an equity partner in a local company, I want someone to tell me why I should not want a tax cut for my corporation. It would help my business grow faster and I would hire more people, who pay income taxes, buy goods and services, pay sales taxes, invest, pay capital gains taxes, borrow, and pay property taxes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-taxation but I think less is more to a point. To me taxes = redistribution of wealth = regulation. I like less regulation. UncleRando: Devil's advocate question: Why should we be trying to keep up with a Chinese economy based on knock-offs and shoes? Radical, but I think it is part of the misconception. It seems to me that the US has (nearly as much as possible) moved away from a manufacturing/production economy into a knowledge/service based economy and we should just embrace this. You're young, right? Planning on that job in the handbag factory? Didn't think so. Why should we try to compete with China for unsophisticated manufacturing jobs. Concentrate on medical technology, cars, machining and emerging sectors. Then again, I could be wrong. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
  6. QCS will be a good addition to the Cincy skyline, however, I can't help but think how much better it would look if it were slightly thinner and maybe a little taller to make up for the square-footage. My thoughts exactly. Even just thinner with less sf would be perceived as taller.
  7. Exact dollar amount given for child ($300) goes into college fund. for remaining: 70% to investments. 30% for fun. I don't buy that this is a bad thing. Tax rebates and cuts do help the economy. Esp. when given to corporations.
  8. ^Post of the year.
  9. ^^Again, not knowing much about this project...you seem to make a good argument. Since the city has cleared the site it seems like they have made an effort to meet any potential developer in the middle. So what I hear is that the city could come back with relaxed height allowances so more density/volume could be achieved in the development and offset the financial shortfall?
  10. Not an expert on this project but at this point finding 3.8 MM to make the project go forward seems like it would have a good ROI. 22 story condo tower = further critical mass for CBD.
  11. Thanks! I saw those. Did you dig them out of the library? I wonder if there are more there. Seeing how things have developed and changed in these pics is enthralling.
  12. These pictures are just so fascinating to me. Anyone know of where there are more? Is that a tower crane in the photo for the Quality Inn/Radisson?
  13. Who said the French can't produce anything Americans will like? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTw0ePv12uY
  14. Jake, I notice in the dated two-lane picture there are extended/exposed piers under the SB lanes. Looks like they planned on widening it all along. ??? BTW, I love this picture from the link...so much going on in this one! It reminds me of something you would see driving into Knoxville. And this...seicer, did you take these? What year were these?
  15. Simple, because a significant amount of money comes into gov't coffers from "crimes" committed in cars. Speeding, etc. :-P
  16. Me. I used to go there. Holy Chit! I forgot about that place!!!
  17. Louisville did the lighting thing with the GRC Memorial Bridge. Not only does it look great at night but the flexibility of lights means that the more interesting truss features can be accented. Also, years ago there was the lighted "LRS 102" sign on the Big 4 Bridge. Shameless plug but it is a good idea. Add lighted signs to the bridges.
  18. Is this because of the tiara or the building? I think you have answered by saying "proportion" but...
  19. Yeah, all those downtown buildings they have built over the last 100 years have destroyed the view of Price Hill from that angle. Ruinous baztards!
  20. I guess I will wait until I see what exactly they have planned...I could see it looking hideous or just OK but not good. It will depend on size and type.
  21. ^Thanks for the explanation. Personally, I would rather have another 10-12 floors as opposed to the girth, er...large footprint. But, WOW! This is really going to change the personality of the skyline!
  22. These renderings are really good! BUT... Are they representative of how "thick" QCSII will be? For instance the view from Covington above - I would have thought that QCS would look the same thickness of Atrium 2 or Scripps from this angle. OR it would be about the thickness of Phase 1 next door...look closely. If that is actually how "thick" it ends up being...mmmmeh. Don't get me wrong I love it but it just seems so............fat. What about the view from Columbia Pky?? Think about how impressive that will be!
  23. Jake, I know you are as informed about this subject as anyone. But what are you proposing in this post? Closing CVG to build a Warren County Apt.? Why would anything in NoKY be bulldozed? Why was the choice for CVG location a disaster? Why is the development of NoKY so bad?
  24. What I was hoping to hear was QCSII will be fast-tracked due to the impending glut of commercial space in The Banks. A "me first" situation. Wow. Color me visionary.
  25. OK...so I can let it out that I am obsessed with the height. With the increase of 3 floors I see this as being a 700+ project. Breaking that psychological barrier will be huge. At that height it won't look ridiculous (see MP) and break the visual balance.
