Peak Oil
I am as confused on this issue of peak oil as I am on the global warming issue. I feel like I have one group saying everything to sway me on way and the same for the opposition. On one side I feel like I am hearing conspiracy theorists and on the other I feel like I am hearing terminal apathy. The only rationalization I can come up with is that the truth is somewhere in between whatever that may be. As far as high gas prices at the pump here is my equation: Artificially high crude prices (due to prospecting) + lack of investment in domestic refinery capacity (market tinkering) + cash rich US economy (current contractionary policy has not yet overcome the post dotcom/9-11 expansionary policy) = $3/gal. As with the dotcom bust, these markets have a tendency to regress when they become bloated or overpriced. If this fails to happen in the next few years with petroleum, I would then begin to suspect much greater forces at work than just economic cycles or market maniupulation (meaning supply is truly depleting or peak oil reached.) Flame away...

CINCINNATI - Clifton Heights, featuring Fairview!
That first pic is the walkway between Calhoun and McMillan, right? In the 90's when that area had lots of old bars (R-Club, Clifton Bay, Mr. K's et al.) I felt a great sense of "relief" on more than one occasion around 3AM in that alley. It was a spooky cut through any other time.

Northern Kentucky Startup help...
Now that you mention it...I wouldn't be opposed to Ohio. I, like many, have a perception that KY is more conducive. + I live in NoKY.

Northern Kentucky Startup help...
I'll leave this as open as possible. What sources do you guys know of that I can find out more about getting startup money for a high-tech business located in NoKY? I already have another business but am looking to spin-off some entrepreneurial stuff. I am aware of Covington's Ezone (?) so I am looking for more info on this or similar. TIA

Cincinnati ... WTF: Underneath 2nd to 71 ramp and on front of US Bank Arena???
When I went to the UD/Louisville game a couple weeks ago I assumed this was an off-site staging area for FS renovation.

Is this a Cincinnati insult?
I was just asking if it was...everyone is arguing their perception of whether it is a slight or not. I just wanted to hear those opinions. Me? I think it is a compliment. And I think Forde makes a nice subtle point that Cincinnati is not part of Ohio in many ways.
-
Is this a Cincinnati insult?
Best post yet. Except, Forde is not the Louisvlle hometown writer. True, he lives in Louisville but he no longer writes for the C-J. Actually, he was decidedly anti-UofL when he wrote for the C-J but he has become quite an ambassador since joining ESPN.

Dilemma at work and with Boss: Advice?
Kinda late on this but I agree you should "explore your options". It's not a healthy environment for growth any way you cut it. Don't waste your energy on salvaging the mess.

Do any of WLW AM700 Talk Show Hosts Live in Ohio?
This goes without saying. I know you didn't miss my point that bad. Again, they are not legally here so they should have been removed already due to this crime, therefore preempting their ability to murder others. You're right about the majority of crimes. Actually, we do hear about them every day. There is a thread on this forum that addresses Cincinnati's crime problem and the saddest part of it is the murder rate. The fact they are American isn't what's news. When the murder is committed by an illegal...that is news. Incorrect, that's completely different, if the child were born in the US, the child would be a legal citizen...therefore not breaking the law by being here...and not as notorious in the eyes of the media. Do you have evidence that ALL hispanics in the area have been hurt? Try not to take it as propaganda...as stated above it is controversialism. The viewpoint and how it is expressed is part opinion part fact and meant to spur discussion, i.e. angry phone callers.

Do any of WLW AM700 Talk Show Hosts Live in Ohio?
Your comments are hypocritical. As a native Kentuckian, I consider your comment to be every bit as bigoted as you claim Bill Cunningham is. It is a thinly veiled insult against a group of people (Kentuckians). bigot: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group, Kentuckians) with hatred and intolerance. Congratulations on being what you supposedly despise. His base assertion is that these crimes would not otherwise happen if illegal aliens were actually deported for breaking the law or prevented from being in the country in the first place. This logic applies regardless of race. It just so happens most illegal aliens are Mexican (note that we don't have a Canadian immigration problem). How would you feel if a friend or family member were killed by a drunk driving illegal alien?

Sheen's 911 Conspiracy Theory
Excuse me for just simply stating but I wish actors would stick to acting instead of politics and psuedo-knowledge. Anytime I hear a celeb sharing an opinion on these types of subjects it always seems to smack of condescension to the masses (although the masses usually deserve it..but I'm not part of the masses.)

Ghost Streets of Cincinnati
So this made the township boundaries true north but the roads mag north? So what's up with roads like Kemper, Cresentville and Tylersville having the back and forth angles? It is also interesting how roads west of the G Miami are oriented correctly. Also if you look at Dayton the east side of the city seems to be tilted and the west side seems to be fine. And as far north as Urbana the E-W streets seem to "match" Liberty Street I had to check this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symmes_Purchase

Cincy: An overextended sports town?
monte... not my opinions...I just thought you guys would enjoy seeing this. I think Cincinnati is just fine and could support an NHL but not an NBA. Corporate support is strong in this city for athletics...I didn't dig into the study but I think they miss the fact that alot of tix are owned by corporations and are used as perks for clients/employees.

Cincy: An overextended sports town?
http://www.bizjournals.com/specials/2006/0213/sports_overextend/1.html "Cincinnati is not a winter-sports city. It doesn't have an NBA or NHL franchise now, nor is it likely to join either league in the future. Pro basketball moved out of town in 1972. Hockey has never seemed interested. A major drawback is population. Metro Cincinnati contains just 2 million people, nowhere near enough to support three major-league teams." See the Methodology and the XL Spreadsheet too... Discuss...

If my city were getting a 61 story...I would hope it doesn't look like that! Ghastly! A L'ville native BTW!
