  1. This sucks for everyone ... obviously Cincy's news is all over this and their reporting job cuts in our region as well (thanks a lot, Cleveland) j/k ... seriously, I kind of wish PNC didn't have the presence that it does now in our region, hell all of OH now. Luckily with The Banks, some major players were recently announced to have a huge personal investment with the project, so hopefully NCB's acquisition won't hurt that project. Individual projects don't get affected by bank acquisitions. NCB made the loan now the loan will be PNC's. PNC can't turn around and say, "sorry we don't like this deal, give us our money back". There are legal documents signed. Hope that clears it up.
  2. The government money is definitely an incentive for a stronger bank to buy a weaker one. It certainly was in this case. In the long run its better for the economy to have stronger banks instead of weaker ones, but it hurts Cleveland right now because we were home to one of the weakest of the weak banks. Let's hope that Key can survive and Fifth Third down in Cinci.
  3. 1500-1800 (if that's the number) jobs lost is never something to feel ok about especially in this city. If we had prospects for out of town companies to move in that would be one thing but we don't. This hurts in many ways. -Losing the young professionals that work for the bank that work, play and live (some) downtown. -Soon to be large vacancy in the NCB tower. How does this affect the proposed new office projects? -The effect on local shops, restaurants, etc from the loss of these people that worked in the heart of downtown. As for supporting the arts and community investment I feel confident that PNC will do its share. How that compares to the $$ that NCB spent I don't know, but they will certainly be involved. Chase, and US Bank are based elsewhere yet they support a lot in this city.
  4. can someone w/ Crains membership post the article titled "HealthLine springing to life amid wave of uncertainty"
  5. Bank of America? That's the the last thing we need. Scotiabank please (if anything).
  6. Kstay2, sorry, but I'm an old school kind a boy. I can appreciate new build condos, but those house all look the same to me. No offense to anyone, they just have a very cheap look and feel to them. When I drive or walk up Larchmere, Euclid Hts. Blvd., Shaker, S. Park, N. Park, Lee Road, Cedar, Coventry, Fairmount, etc. I feel the grandeur and I can see the pride and craftmanship in each home individually and how each home plays of and relates to the next home. When I go to my cousin's house in Beachwood (or his wife's, who has family in Oakwood & Bedford), I'm nauseated at the site of 70's/80's garish crap. The outer 'burbs seemed to be filled with those mass produced homes in which every other house "looks" identical or very similar and, to me, have no life or character. Off topic, yes and I apologize in advance for taking the conversation there. Ditto
  7. Does anyone know the price points for the condos? I haven't seen them myself but have heard that they are extremely pricey. I would think this would be a tought time to sell $400k+ condos. Love the project concept, but am worried about the housing component.

Nice two posts Enzo. I am like you in that I grew up here and ended up moving back after college and a few years of living out of the area (Cleve Hts - real far I know). When I was looking for a place to buy a home this was the place I wanted to be. So many great things about the city.
  9. The organization is going to lose some serious donations with this move. Especially since it comes off as so un-thought out and hasty. Very little research was done and that rubs a lot of the prominant downtown supporters the wrong way. We'll see what these "activities" they plan for the Euclid location turn out to be. I am guessing they will be a weak attempt.
  10. It appears a compromise was made and they will be opening new offices in beachwood and keeping the building on euclid.
  11. is still comes down to a vote though so we'll see what happens.

The Line?? puh-leease! The defensive backfield looked like a pop warner team! Its a lot easier for a defensive back to cover a receiver for 5 seconds as opposed to 10. That's all i am saying. Pittsburgh's O-line should be weaker than Dallas' this year so maybe they will have more success. Although once you get to Big Ben you have the challenge of getting him on the ground. We struggled with that last year.

Adams and Sorensor starting against the Steelers? Yikes! If the D-line has a repeat performance Big Ben may throw for a billion yards.
  14. If it did, it is likely a "guesstimate".
  15. That would be awesome. And in today's lending market, I am sure Stark has alot of tenant signatures to get prior to moving to the next step. To me, his relocation to the "Brian Sipe" mural was a big step toward his committment. Exactly right about the lending environment. Its not easy to get a project of this magnitude and complexity off the ground without some pretty rock solid fundamentals like leases, etc. This is a multiple bank project and only a handful of banks are actually lending money right now. That makes it more difficult. Here's to hoping.

thanks for posting. Hopefully something gets done. Its such a shame we don't have a superman statue somewhere downtown.
  17. new article on the subject. Doesn't look good for staying downtown. http://www.clevelandjewishnews.com/articles/2008/08/29/news/local/fed0829.txt
  18. I agree with this recommendation. They are great.
  19. I think you mean downtown desperately wants. If there was a need (demand), then there would retail being built. I think we are progressing toward that point but not there yet. I am thrilled that they finally making use of this spot and with something that people will use.
  20. Financing is always an issue, especially in this banking environment.
  21. As a very poor man, I am insulted. I prefer to think of him as a ridiculously stupid man's Howard Stern. very funny. I have 3 months of free sirius radio and I had not listened to howard since he moved. There is no comparison. Howard, although offensive at times, is still extremely entertaining. I have a hard time listening to Rover for more than a few minutes at a time. He can be tolerated, but his cohosts....not so much.

Looking down on Fraternities? Sounds kind of elitist of you.

Bad generalization MTS. I wasn't planning on joining one but after making some friends who were already a part of it, it became a no-brainer. Its an easy way to meet people and gives you a built in social life. We had a lot of a-hole typical frat guys in mine, but also normal non typical frat guys like myself and those are the guys I became great friends w/. My family life had nothing to do w/ my decision either.
