i did the subway tour today too...talk about awesome. its amazing something so interesting as that sits just feet below central parkway. the tour took us about a quarter away from the station. simply a shame it sits down there empty. i had always been amazed at pictures i had seen on here and other websites but now that i have seen it in person they in no way do it justice. and incredible piece of history!
  2. bfwissel - i get the sence that you are from out of town? is that true? care to share where you are from? im just curious as im continuously interested in the reasons why people move here. i always find it interesting how "outsiders" view Cincinnati and obviously from your post above your view is positive.
  3. they must be using it to build the 3rd phase. they will be triplets
  4. ^ i agree. with all the hoopla they made about tree selection i assumed they would be more substantial...then again it was probably just a slow news day.
  5. i assure you the project is still moving. however, it does seem like it is taking them forever to install the glazing
  6. I think those of you on this board that actually know what they are talking about (im simply implying that i dont with regards to the finer details concerning this issue) need to make attempts to court Paul Dogherty about being a streetcar advocate. He has been all about transportation the past couple weeks in his blog. Could be an effective weapon in informing the masses? Just a thought. Also some perspective on downtown pheonix.... http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/daugherty/
  7. the sign has been there for a few weeks. although i noticed the plastic...i have not seen any workers or obvious signs that work is going on. the exterior of the building has not been touched.
  8. i noticed the other day that they have lined the inside of each of the windows with plastic...perhaps they are about to begin work.
  9. i agree. a slender queen city square is a better proportioned queen city square. this is right on with the point i was trying to make a few pages ago concerning the crown and its scale relative to the mass of the building. too bad it doesnt matter.
  10. seems to me like that would make no difference at all.
  11. i dont know if anybody has noticed yet...i keep forgetting to look myself. but i drove past a work truck yesterday at 303 with the Key Bank logo ready to hoist.
  12. A typo im assuming... "Brinkman, who believes the Banks will never be financially stable, said he will fight it again this year." This is honestly painting a very pathetic picture for the freedom center. Do they REALLY think that there attendance is impacted by where the fricken door is!!!!!!!!! Give me a break!
  13. hopefully this rendering has glazed over the finer architectural details which do this corner justice. it seems through their website that this company has some experience in OTR which means they are familiar and hopefully senstitive to the architecture of the neighborhood. though rudamentary, that rendering does do a good job of illustrating a restored continuity to that street. one way or another a welcomed addition for sure
  14. ^ it certainly seems a little lost now thats its no longer flanked on both sides by major roads. i think a rebuild would be a nice improvement and clean up that intersection quite a bit.
  15. i think they should sign another United Dairy Farmers...the one near tennessee and the one north of fenwick are simply too far away. but honestly this topic interests me as i live quite near....
  16. if somebody is doing work in there thats great news. that seems like it would be a great space.
  17. even though thats traditionally been my least favorite view of the Ascent...i was taken by that image. interplay of the layered features of the facade all set in front of the beatiful sky gradiant as produced by the curvature of the glass....awesome.
  18. i dont disagree that buildings with similar ornamentation are successful. i just think that its too much. the difference for me between queen city square and the atlanta tower is proportion. to me the atlanta project is much more about terminating the mass of the building itself, i think it relates better to the rest of the building, where queen city square is less success at completing the mass of the building. hopefully i like it better in person!
  19. i actually think the buliding would be significantly improved without the crown. i dont even care if that means its not going to be taller than the carew. its a padded height anyway.
  20. i have always had issues with the proportions of this building...its simply massive when compared to the rest of the buildings downtown. and keep dreaming about P&G building anything anytime soon.
  21. that rendering is only of the new office building. there has never been a rendering of the hotel portion. im assuming when they mention "four towers" they mean the entire complex including baldwin towers
  22. I had to reread the headline of that article three times before i caught that it said "day" and not "delay". I suppose thats just a reflection of what im used to seeing!
  23. Rando, did you get a good look at the Faux Brick on every single one of those buildings? Perhaps the garages are an interesting model to influence the banks...the architecture there is just terrible.
  24. looks like it could be pretty nice.
