Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
i think its a little premature to call phase one successfull...its still only half full.

PhattyNati replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^ very good point. wouldnt it be awesome if montgomery inn were to open a restaurant on the sqaure? obviously this would never happen with the boathouse down the street but that would sure be a draw.

Cincinnati: Montgomery - Montgomery Towne Center
a high density development like this inside of hamilton county is a good thing...you have to look at it that way

Covington, KY: The Ascent at Roebling's Bridge
from the webcam image it appears as though they have begun to hang the pre-cast panels...the bottom right corner.

PhattyNati replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^ i realize you werent talking specifically about the buildings height...i was simply making a point. i also think we have established that none of these projects are high rises. and as for blending in yes. imagine the ascent sitting right next to these. would you not say that one blends in a little better than the other? maybe its only through material selection but there is a sensitivity in the designs on these buildings (albeit boring and mundane) to their architectural context. but thats what we do around cincinnati right? everything has to be brick!

^ i think think ohio state dominates in a lot of places. i was in memphis during the championship game in 2002 and the bar had nothing but ohio state fans. we just need to reel them all back in. the city has got to find a way to make these projects easier to finance. all of the recent residential projects have been successfull in the end but each has had their fair share of trouble. it seems the proverbial "hump" has been the death of too many ideas that could have been just as successful.

^ oh come on...they arent going to build THAT. thought im a little less confident in the project when they use phrases like "it will LIKELY get under way in 2007". i hope they figure this one out!

Newport, KY: SouthShore Condominiums
^ yeah. the article above talks about a planned summer groundbreaking that was going to be pushed back to fall. obviously the fall groundbreaking didnt occure either. i signed up on their website just to test the waters (no way would i ever be able to afford something like this in my life) hoping to hear something from them regarding construction start. i got a hand written note back that said nothing other than come check out the sales center. so i know for sure its not dead yet!

"Why don't we just make it vinyl siding? Historic Districts have guidelines so that shite doesn't happen." I dont get it? Are you comparing glass to vinyl siding?

Newport, KY: SouthShore Condominiums
anybody heard anything about this? pushed back from summer to fall to never?

PhattyNati replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructioni think harbor green looks really good...i dont care for the others. but come one, i think underwhelming, while probably not the intention is perfectly acceptable for both of these projects. they are limited in height to preserve views and they blend in better with their surroundings. i would expect a building such as the ascent which is nestled among other (granted terrible) taller buildings to put forward a little more sex appeal. i think the southshore buildings will have a nice flare about them if they are ever built.

yeah i thought someone had mentioned that at one time too. or at least that there was an association in some way or another with that charlotte project

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
different strokes for different folks...you obviously just prefer traditional architecture which obviously is fine. but to say that THIS courthouse and a Neoclassical building in Nashville are better than any buildings designed in cincinnati for the past ten years only confirms your bias. i would start the list, but thats not what this thread is about. make it glass

PhattyNati replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionif some of you have not noticed (maybe its already been mentioned) most of the trees have been planted. i was under the impression..at least because they were making a big deal about how they selected them...that the trees would be much older. apparently i was wrong. the base of the crane is in place.

the issue is not how tall this building is...its in a location downtown that unless its 50 floors it wont really have that much impact in the skyline. sure its always nice to add another big trophy to the case but the little ones count just as much. what is most important is that SOMETHING goes up on this site. a building of only 15 to 20 floors will do wonders to improve the street environment in that area. hopefully when this comes together the folks at the millennium hotel will see the need to do something with their 5th street entry...thats just terrible.

yeah this project really sounds great and the developers directive to cater to young professionals is just outstanding. i think people are right, if this project does in fact come to fruition it will indicate if not cause a dramatic swing downtown. this coupled with the efforts on fountain square would really begin to establish a "vibrance" that has been missing for way too long. come on guys...pull this one off!

Newport, KY: Newport Pavilion
i dont understand how they are going to fit all of this on that site. im not familiar with the terrain but it looks as though one of the buildings almost abuts the property line of one of the homes way up on the hill. garbage either way

Cincinnati: Montgomery - Montgomery Towne Center
i think that this project would be great at that spot in montgomery. both blue ash and montgomery are putting forth great efforts to gain more high density housing and this is certainly consistent with that trend. downtown montgomery has a very quaint feel and the sooner these dealerships are gone the better.

City West & Misc - Cincy
very impressive stuff...i would be very curious to see occupancy statistics such as who is moving there and how many are still vacant. the scale of this project is just very impressive and interestingly it was never surrounded with skepticism and doubt...it was just done (at least that i am aware of). i realize the hope six aspect helps.
