Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
thats an interesting diagram...too bad it doesnt mean crap. i know i have asked this question before and i think i remember most people saying that it wasnt the case -- had there ever been a mention of western and southern moving into any future phase II space? id say with the recent success of the polk building, they should vacate the collection of older buildings around lytle park (i realize not all of them posess the charm of the polk building) and convert them to residential and move into phase II. that would create a very strong residential district in and around that area. any time i walk through that part of downtown it just doesnt seems so much cleaner and calmer...something i think would make any further conversions in that area very marketable. seems like win win to me

i just want to see what the architecture of this thing will be. if its all glass like they propose i think it will be awesome...if detailed well. the rendering they have that some three year old has produced just isnt doing it for me

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
PhattyNati replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^ the tower looks reclad in the rendering because the artist was trying to make it look a little less nasty. i dont see any reason why or how they would add any space to the banking center...there just trying to impove the composition with a little more height via a couple false walls

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
PhattyNati replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe trees are not portayed accurately...maybe they did that because there really isnt a design for the pavilion/restaurant/whatever it will be yet. The cincinnati is stupid - if you are standing on the square and you dont know you are in cincinnati then you have problems. And last (i realize this is still schematic) does there really need an image of fountain square on fountain square (the green banner)? I think overall its nice and will be a welcome change to the existing banking center.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
"But the semi-suburban, homoginized, retail and apartments already built would not have the character that 15 seperately developed buildings would have" Very good point. This is really the only issue I have with this project. The building is just way to big. If was just half the size it is right now, with the same architectural detailing, im not sure it would be bothering any of us as much. Even still, half the current size is too big.

Cincinnati: Uptown - UC's MainStreet
"At UC, students haven't been too vocally critical or supportive of the project or its cost, though a student newspaper columnist once remarked that UC should start investing in matching brick buildings rather than signature architecture: "All we see is a bunch of eclectic buildings that are just painful to look at once their novelty wears off," wrote Joshua Rinaldi." Idiot

Snowy Cincinnati Night....
This one turned out blurry, but for some reason, I love the way this looks. (Mmm...Gritty) - it looks like a pastel drawing to me for some reason. incredible shots.

^ so what in your mind (refering to the "suburban" discussion) is the difference between the Calhoun street project and the Macy's or Saks dowtown...or any major dowtown retailer for that matter? If you hate them both then i understand...but i see little difference between them. Also, i dont really understand how you can call a place "suburban" based on the retailers target demographic. Urban is Urban is Urban. Sure it looks like crap but i think thats taking it a little far.

^ i dont know about that. there isnt any room on the square to build it and it you consider the 5th and race site as a possible location it wont really have a connection with the square atmosphere. yes its pretty close, but the Arronoff is just as close and i dont know of any significant impact it has had on square activity.

i just cant image what would drive anyone to think that a building such as that should be torn down....now matter what the circumstances. this is good news indeed. lets just hope they can find a good use for it.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills - The Overlook at Eden Park
cool...they must be pretty confident that it will fly. it sure would be horrible for that site to be a crater for the next 20 years. but it does seem like they might be having trouble selling it. I mean how long has this thing been talked about and the dont even have 8 units sold? I gurantee if this thing had a little more flash it would be sold out or darn near close to it (ascent)

of course i new you were being sarcastic....its more a disgussed for the project in general...or should i say lack of project. I dont know if the news today is good or bad news. I mean obviously its another delay but the whole corporex deal was pretty shady. We will just have to wait...longer to see

Cincinnati: Downtown - The McAlpin
I was walking with my boss to tower place the other day and he pointed out some interesting things about the rehab. He apparently was involved with the origianal feasability studies for the project so is quite informed. The one things that i thought was especially peculiar is the half-hazard facade renovation done many years ago. What appears to be four buildings is actually only three. Looking at the illustration now its blatantly obvious. The original owners of the central building (with the arch and ladies head) extended all the way to the building with the bay windows. Some time way back when they sold off the end bay to some sort of music company who proceded to reconfigure that portion of the facade to its current state. That explains some lack of symmetry and why ornamental medalions are sliced in half. Maybe useless information to some but i thought it was interesting. Also there will to two interior atriums.

i like the verdigris option. it would look just as nice with the ascents blue and create a little variation too. Libeskind doesnt get a vote....then again neither does ohio
