  1. for god's sake aim for a best buy at least so people can get superior technology to apple for half the price from samsung and google. I swear if the city jumps on the apple bandwagon which is essentially worse than the walmart/starbucks bandwagons I will denounce downtown, move to anderson township and start calling the streetcar a boondoggle and refuse to hang out in otr for fear of being shot. :-P
  2. I recently completely converted a coworker of mine who was a staunch opponent simply by spouting off some facts about light rail/ streetcar success in america and mentioning this very fact. I think people believe its a toy for tourists and dont understand the extent of how well redeveloped the route has been to maximize walkability and access without moving a few blocks to repay for parking etc until we mention those benefits to them.
  3. what about where the subway ends near central and marshall being burrowed under the hill gradually up to mlk then running to the new interchange area. surely traffic from the hospitals, campus and gaslight would be enough to justify redeveloping tunnels then youre only a stones throw from another lining merging in from northside and camp washington. As a northsider I'm partial to routes coming near here btw :) I really need to change my screenname I guess haha
  4. or leverage the subway tunnel cost with that federal matching grant we could get and run the vehicles through the tunnel to cincy state. make waterworks move that damn pipe
  5. I hope no nimbys stumble in here, they would probably say "see, the streetcar only goes across that one bridge and its covered in leaves and boondoggle buckets"
  6. let the damn thing crumble and turn that tangled mess of expensive elevated exits ramps on both side of downtown back into residential streets. and boulevard conversions on 71 and 75 make traffic go around 275. if the feds want an urban highway to stay make them pay for it or else we get queens gate, avondale, walnut hills andthe fairmounts back in working order.
  7. Here, they might. this city has some residents that remind me of the town hall scenes on "parks and recreation" on NBC.
  8. does anybody know how to find a cost breakdown of this project by federal, state, county and city funds used?
  9. lol ... where were you when she told you this?! * Nevermind, I see where you addressed this. It was an Uber passenger. Always a great source for dingbat conversation. I've noticed repeatedly that many "professionals" can't correctly identify local landmarks and have no sense of direction. just start telling people (lying) that the eastern corridor highway will benefit downtown and we can shut it down in no time. (referring to their no sense of direction)
  10. I dont think that one on google maps is so bad, its atleast kind of cool in a futuristic way. they could always save money and copy the design of that health place on vine and liberty or the metal two round sections building between pnc and marathon on mlk near that dunkin donuts. cranley would probably put a big mission accomplished banner up afterward.
  11. ^ thats not funny, it could happen here
  12. They should use them to connect to the Uptown Four: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/70250228/The%20Uptown%20Four%2010282014.pdf This presentation reflects my latest thoughts on the uptown streetcar. This version adds vehicles to increase frequency. It adds length to the Clifton and Avondale lines. It combines two lines (That's why it's the Uptown Four instead of the Uptown Five from my previous posts.) But by far the biggest difference is I don't think the Uptown Four lines described in the presentation even have to be, or should be, streetcar lines anymore. In other words, I would rather have the Downtown streetcar go up the hill and then tie into a useful transit bus system instead of fighting for 10-15 years over where to run a single Uptown streetcar line. You could always convert the Uptown lines into streetcar as ridership demands and the politics become more favorable over time. that auburn line sure would look good going through the mt auburn light rail tunnel ;) Um. Are we really calling that building COAST? I think without the use of "of" it would be cast although it would be great to start seeing headlines like "coast is in favor of advancing the streeetcar uptown" the sheeple would start going along with whatever they are told to do by their perceived puppet master.
  13. ^ & ^^ wow talk about closing a door and opening a window that corner of downtown needs all the investment it can get, its looking a little 80s/tired
  14. I wish I would win mega millions when its at like 600 million so I could just give the city/county money with a contract agreement for them to spend it on what i say lol. but I'd probably just start my own city of urban enthusiasts in a corn field somewhere and we would surpass cincy in a couple decades anyway lol
  15. they should keep the highway in tunnels until it reaches fww and run 2nd and third farther up with another cap to go between thus extending lytle into the future capped area of fww. probably too expensive but just my two cents.
  16. ^like creating a loop system i mean centered on the banks and running on the other side of town near (in!) union terminal
  17. could the cost of the subway tunnels be leveraged for that federal matching grant still in its entirety to refurbish only the part north of liberty and grade the streetcar into the remaining portion of the tunnels to run to the cincy state area? that would be a sizeable extension. then branches could jut off, lessing the "it doesnt come to my neighborhood argument". could the county do the city a one up and do the same thing with some of the banks developments to justify extending it to the transit center at at-grade light rail speeds or are there already too many federal dollars involved? theres just so much existing infrastructure in our city i guess it blows my mind that rail is this much of an uphill battle. thoughts?
  18. If we are using light rail grade materials unlike other cities I'm still not sure why we cant leverage the subway tunnels on that federal match and create a sloping entrance somewhere on/right off central parkway to run a subway line at least to the cincinnati state/northside area. We could have a whole city of light rails terminating in streetcar loops!
  19. I've been friends with joey for about a decade now. I'm going to be real here, joey is a little delusional from time to time, he tells alot of fish stories (what politician doesnt) but he means well and hes a good guy even though he is a bit socially awkward at times. I hang out with joey only about once every few months now and I'm never sure which joey I'm going to get, the real him or the facade trying way too hard to be a typical political personality to fit in and climb the ladder but I can say hes very informed and passionate about his beliefs (even though joey and I often disagree because I'm very libertarian on state and federal issues and hes very Hilary Clinton on them). I'll probably vote for him because as someone with progressive municipal politics like myself and most of this forum I think he would do the right thing in most of those cases...plus you guys will have me to get messages through to him to do the right thing cause his old buddy drew always has his ear :) he can be our urban ohio puppet...mostly kidding. (even though I'm probably moving to chicago in a couple months I plan to stay informed about my queen cities goings on) I'd say what the hell, he'll do better than most of the traditional politicians who are part of the old boys club, what do we have to lose?
  20. soooo anybody know whats going on with this?
  21. why arent people going on the offensive too? Let's start using hillbilly buzzwords like "boondoggle" for all the ridiculous spending kasich and cranley do under the guise of highways being paid for by gas tax (lie... we just sank 25 million into the mlk interchange paid for by the city)
  22. why couldnt they do something similar to the parking deal but in busy corridors along proposed streetcar routes and say "if you build and maintain streetcar infrastructure along this route you can have parking right to the surrounding blocks for x amount of years"? I don't see why everyone in the middle third side of this story is suddenly "for it" if it were being built up the hill but arent willing to look for ways to incentivize private investment to help make it happen. Does this really have to be a do or don't debate? I would expect that cranley with his tif obsession would want to get creative with funding so he could pretend he made this happen for the city by swooping in at the last minute, I mean if you dangle a chance to be dishonest in front of a politician they can't resist for long.
  23. we could have an urban rollercoaster or a petting zoo lol
