  1. haha actually Cincinnati once was the wild west. I say awesome.
  2. lets put them on the defensive. ballot initiatives that only safety improvements and upkeep may come from funds other than gas taxes, no roadway expansion of non existing right of ways and no property purchase or imminent domain for highways or garages unless by a vote and council cannot vote on highway expansions...we'll show them who cares more about excessive taxation.
  3. i have a brilliant idea. lets start a ballot initiative that all funds generated from the cincinnati southern railroad must be spent on rail transit development or at least that it may not be used on roads...id love to see them refute rail technology while whining about not getting money from it haha. omg...we should seriously do that
  4. all-in-all i'm really happy with citywest. i think in a city where suburbanites are skeptical of downtown neighborhoods it shows them that an urban neighborhood can be extremly pleasant and they left enough yards for future development of maybe larger building for higher density without just cramming all the low income people into a slum. i always thought once they start later streetcar phases they should go to union terminal via 5th or court to linn street to help support growth around 5th and linn and the retail on linn but i guess a streetcar system that far advanced would support that strip just fine from ezzard charles. plus that alignment would be more advantageous to later expand to price hill. i do wish we could see a similar project try to blend architecture like that with existing rowhouse style building to the north near the sam adams brewery so once findlay is revitalized theres not a run down neighborhood across the parkway but now im getting carried away (and possibly was with the whole post lol.)
  5. we should just tack on the next phase of the streetcar in a ballot so when they bring everyone to the poles for them to lose we even get another phase and tell them thats whats gonna happen everytime they act like hooligans. :)
  6. yeah if this falls through i'm moving and not spending a dime in this city again. i love how they steal our money to expand highways to nowhere and outsource our economy to the burbs creating smog, the need for excessive gas expenditure to get places etc but when we need a tiny fraction of the same money to intensify transportation in the urban core they cry like babies because the burb pansies dont wanna lose their precious money to raise their 10 children while expanding into farm land and destroying it so we all starve in the future...if kasich promotes ONE airport or highway expansion bill of anykind over the next few years i hope he dies....grrrrrrr.
  7. just call one the threeway in honor of our signature food....sure thats it
  8. you guys i personally dont like country usic but its still a good genre and if that theme to this restaurant can atract a new demographic downtown than thats awesome...a good city is culturally diverse. i'm psyched to get anything new that alot of other cities might not have like this for the good of our nati! lets remember why we're all urban enthusiasts here people :)
  9. spent so many years looking at renderings its hard to believe its real now
  10. why dont we send kasich a letter like he sent obama asking if we can use our road funding for other things since our roads are already built and its a waste to keep expanding them when we know we could just paint a line through some fields and it would serve the same purpose lol
  11. haha thats actually funny we should start having celebrations everytime something on the random developments threads get complete..."new park bench bash!"
  12. im expecting an enquirer article a couple months from now..."as downtown obesity drops due to walking lack of parking causes knee problems thanks to those darn pro-cincinnatians"
  13. sell Eden Park and buy tiaras and flagpoles for the streetcars
  14. I hope they have a Borders IMO its selection and cafe are a step up from the Barnes and noble across the river....pardon me Barnes and others
  15. I don't really get your point. I-75 is essentially a free asset, which I am proposing that the streetcar be marketed that way as well. Nearly everything that 75 passes by through the City is conducive to its use as a major freight and passenger thoroughfare, because geographically the Mill Creek Valley has always been the most convenient route for that sort of thing. So the incentives to focus that area for freight and manufacturing already exist as legacy infrastructure, large land parcels and great highway access. If an infrastructure asset gets built in your neighborhood, and the value of your land increases therefrom, why shouldn't one have to pay in to the community's coffers for that? Farms, homes and businesses get priced out of neighborhoods all the time. I-75 is about as free as the cost of a car, maintenance, fuel and insurance. If thats free I wanna know where you're shoppin' :-o I pay for those and I'd Gladly pay for a streetcar ride but if people outside downtown are riding it people outside downtown should pay for it the same as they would for road usage. Otherwise they should start telling people two blocks away from highways to start filling up our tanks. And your counter-analogy only proves my point...why should I have to pay for highways (which my taxes do) if I'm not immediately beside one? Beause I still benefit from a healthy downtown area. I see your point about compensating people unfairly but if we play that game then we might as well start taking away people property rights altogether. The people who live and own businesses on he streetcar route have paid their taxes for the advantage of other neighborhoods for years so its their turn to benefit which is only fair. I live in walnut hills and rent so believe me that this is not a personal feeling, I just thinks its the just thing to do. If we all believe a streetcar can support itself then we should be in favor of usage fees so the extreme renewal we all want actually occurs without anything to hold it back.
  16. its possible that during rain electricity could arc down and travel through the tracks killing hundreds at any moment on the streets. not to mention moochers who could buy streetcars and place them on the lines for personal travel. :-D
  17. I don't think that's a very good analogy. Everyone pays full price for using the libraries, all the time. Taxes pay for the libraries, and when the library system needs to cut service, they typically try to close the branches that are used the least. Site based pricing makes sense around transit routes. then we can charge the people who live near I-75 for all the upcoming projects too...sure they wont be able to afford homes or businesses anymore but they should have to cover for the rest of us. these arent statistics...they're people who an unbalanced tax like that could hurt. if people want to use the streetcar they can pay to do so. as for its construction it benefits the entire city through enhancing our downtown economy so everyone can chip in or vote not to...which i hope doesnt happen. I think they're calling that democracy nowadays.
  18. that kind of tax could muscle lots people out of their homes and businesses. that would be like the city putting a library next to your house and telling you and your immediate neighbors you are paying the full price of it for the city to use... id just sell my property and move to a township if the city did that to me and since i hate suburbanite lifestyle that would make me very sad lol. A site based property tax could actually dampen the success of tranait oriented development along the route.
  19. I love how it creates consistent style across the campus, this looks alot like the new student life center/tuc/onestop on campus. its not nearly as spread out as some are saying if you look more closely at the picture and are familiar with the area its actually rather dense without being too downtown which would be unsustainably dense for clifton i think. Plus the whole old meets new thing with its placement in relation to existing structures looks good.
  20. how are we supposed to discuss streetcars without being allowed to talk about their impact on crime, and who opposes/supports them in the community? i dont even know what you guys pruned from somebodys post but judging on stuff thats been cut in the past and what you wrote up there it sounds like just something you disagree with because you're all just the opposite extreme of the beacon. im so done visiting this site if this is how its gonna be. this is getting to be a joke.
  21. i like parkside...sounds like it would be an actual cincy neighborhood ( like northside) but they should call it losantville landing or something with our original city name in there
  22. how about this. any company or person who spends 1% or more of their annual income to get this thing built become part of a private streetcar club who owns the operating rights privately and only members ride for free for life and being a private club can set rates for different individuals so that when people like those from the beacon want to ride we can charge them $30.
  23. . When are people going to understand that the opposition to the streetcar is related to the overall picture of regional public transportation? I don't care what anchors DT and UT, it doesn't get people who aren't already close downtown and it doesn't get people to our other regional job centers, such as up and down 71 and 75. Also, the "wait and see" approach to the Banks and the streetcar are directly tied to the ineptitude of the local government over several decades. Bottom line: the City has to gain the public trust back. Chastizing citizens for this is counter-productive. All the powers-that-be have to do is communicate CLEARLY with the public on their intentions, and keep on working. If the plans are sound, then it will work, if not... i dont believe that. in 7 years of living here i've never met, in person, anybody who actually knows whats going on downtown or around the city. when i mention the words metro moves people go "huh?" like they cant remember that far back. cincinnatians just dont take pride in their city mostly but im not so sure people actively disregard attempts at improvement...maybe previous influencial people yes but not so much the general public who seem lost in a fog. if this goes to popular vote i think it will overwhelmingly pass and i hope the naacp and coast get giant egg in their face
  24. in metro moves didnt the city of cincinnati vote protransit but were overwhelmed by no votes from backward exurbanites? i cant wait to vote yes on this along with everyone else and show Dummie McDumb Winburn and this moron that the people support the idea. It amazes me they still call it trolley too...like were in mister roger's neighborhood or something. Barack is gonna laugh his butt off when he reads this clowns 4th grade quality report. why not write something on "why cincinnati should go back to covered wagons, wife beating and horses"?
  25. looks like a good thing aig didnt sign onto this whole ordeal now, doesnt it? ha
