Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Just curious...what's stopping the County from matching the 20 MM offer that Jackson would probably accept from FCE?

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I don't know if anybody saw or remembers this but a couple of years ago, one of the news stations aired an interview with Mayor Jackson. One of the questions asked in the interview was about the new convention center and where it will go. His response to the question was, "wherever MMPI wants it to go." I find it interesting that he's one of the main people holding up the process.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Is there a difference between building a convention center with sales tax money and building Cleveland Browns stadium with sin tax money? I was living in Columbus when they were building the stadium and am curious...did people make the same arguments then?

The Dumb Joke/Funny Story Thread
A dumb one but one of my favorites... *A magician is performing on stage and says, "for my next trick, I need a volunteer from the audience." Nobody volunteers so the magician picks the biggest guy in the audience to help him with his trick. When the guy gets to the stage, the magician hands him a sledgehammer. The magician tells the guy, "Go ahead and hit me in the temple as hard as you can." "No way." "Go ahead...I'm a magician." "Alright..." WHAM!! Ten years later, the magician wakes up out of his coma and yells, "TA DA!!"

Cleveland: Random Development and News
I believe the WKYC building is still going to be made into a hotel (Staybridge?). The development has been pushed back because the developer wasn't granted a historic state tax credit. There's an article about it in the forum somewhere.

Fostoria, Ohio
This is a sad story. I was born in Fostoria and the building beside Kaminsky's was where every kid in town went to buy shoes and everything Fostoria Redmen. I used to walk down this block all the time...I can't believe it's gone.

Mechanic Recommendation Near Downtown Cleveland?
I don't know how far you're willing to travel but the Sunoco station at 24200 Lakeshore Boulevard in Euclid does great work for great prices. The phone is 216-732-1900. You could catch the 39F back downtown.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
What is the difference between the 1960's-1970's, when a lot of US cities expanded their rail lines, and now? I'm sure expanding rail has always been expensive but the costs didn't seem to bother some cities. I'm wondering why Cleveland's rail seems so second rate compared to other cities of the same size.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
It's interesting to hear what everybody has to say about this. For me, it doesn't make sense to put the convention center behind Tower City. There's a mention (I think) about how Chicago's mart thrives on the river but their river and ours are completely different. I'd love to see them renovate the current site...they could make it a pretty cool center. I watched Mayor Jackson on TV say they'll build it wherever Medical Mart wants it so I guess we'll see.
