It's a long story, but the short version is that the port was very interested in acquiring the property. It was turned over to the county for preservation as a park in 2004, and the port ended its acquisition efforts in 2005. I'm not sure what you were looking at, but I suspect it wasn't the right parcel. Try looking up parcel number 003-04-001.

Hey, guys. Just a quick heads-up to let you know that the Wendy Park Management Plan 2012 is now online: http://planning.co.cuyahoga.oh.us/whiskey/plans.html
  3. It probably wouldn't have mattered in this case, because the two recused members likely would have split their votes. Torres would have voted for demolition and Mason against.
  4. On a related note, the Cleveland Coalition recently published a report on the casino plans. We'd enjoy hearing what you think of it. http://www.clevelandcoalition.org/2011/featured/cleveland-coalition-releases-crooked-river-gaming-report/ http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2011/04/cleveland_coalition_releases_recommendations_for_downtown_casino.html
  5. Links to Cleveland Stater articles go bad after a week or two, so you need to link to the archived version in order to get a permanent link. The Corlett Building article was from the July 8 issue.
  6. The Corlett is listed in the National Register, but it is not a Cleveland Landmark.
  7. The Cleveland City Planning Commission will hear the demolition request for the Corlett Building tomorrow morning. CSU's plans for the site are in the image gallery at the bottom of the agenda. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Well, this year's results are out, and for the most part, it looks like more of the same. They published some results from the survey, which seem to indicate a preference for more urbanized areas, and then based their ratings on the same things they always do. They added walkability as one of their metrics, but their measurement is completely opaque. This year's top five are: [*]Solon [*]Richfield Village [*]Mayfield Village [*]Rocky River [*]Twinsburg You can hear them talk about the ratings in their June podcast.

From this month's Cleveland Magazine newsletter: You can still fill out the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=PcIabEH8VpUXoSiSUyvFqQ_3d_3d

Bumping this old thread to mention that Cleveland Magazine will publish their annual suburb ratings in June, and this year, they're surveying people about their priorities. Think of it as an opportunity to influence the factors used in the ratings. The survey is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=PcIabEH8VpUXoSiSUyvFqQ_3d_3d

  13. That's the Krause Building, and since the developers are calling themselves Krause Project Partners, it's a good bet that the reference to West 4th Street is a mistake. (In addition to running for a block in the Warehouse District, West 4th also runs through a stretch of Tremont.)

I think Ken's on the money here. If you'd like to research the issue for yourself, we've collected links to the zoning codes of Cuyahoga County communities.
  19. Kevin replied to a post in a topic in City Discussion
Several communities in eastern Cuyahoga County have similar zoning provisions. Moreland Hills has a two acre minimum lot size, which was upheld by the Ohio Supreme Court in January.
  20. Their figure is for the entire city, not just downtown, but last year the Census Bureau estimated that Cleveland has a daytime population of 593,243. I could dig up a GIS layer showing AGS estimates of employees by block group, but my data's fairly old at this point.

Oh well. That's what I get for trying to steal bandwidth from Amazon. The back cover of The Essential Calvin and Hobbes shows a giant Calvin tromping around and creating chaos in Chagrin Falls while holding the Popcorn Shop in his hands. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0836218051/
