  1. westakron1 replied to ink's post in a topic in City Photos - USA/World
My older brother lives just outside of Waukegan. Waukegan and North Chicago have always reminded me of the Lorain/Elyria area as satellite cities that've become more connected to the primary city in a much larger metro. They definitely are their own areas with their own cultures.
  2. I don’t know but the city of Youngstown is smaller than Canton and may be smaller than Lorain now.
  3. It’s added Youngstown AND Mansfield according to this website. How accurate is it that this will be a new CSA? If so it’s an even more insane area, stretching east to west from Pennsylvania to Sandusky.
  4. The interesting thing concerning Cleveland(and maybe other cities on this list) is that there is another Urban Area(Lorain/Elyria) within it's MSA and part of it's Urban area is actually within Akron's MSA and outside of it's MSA population. This is the case for Akron's urban area as well it spills into both Cleveland and Canton's MSA.
  5. I felt like the video showed the absurdity of MSA's, let alone CSA's. Outside of the really BIG cities of this country with extensive commuter rail, I don't see how Holmes County or Shelby County(amongst others) should ever be considered a part of Cleveland or Cincinnati's metro areas. Using his logic, you might as well just have all of NEO be a combined metro area.
  6. It was fascinating to go back and read through this thread 10-plus years later. I feel personally more connected to both Cleveland and Canton for several reasons than I did when this thread popped off. I know my family and I have been more intentional about exploring and enjoying what the whole area has to offer, in the same way I did when living in Chicagoland. When talking about distance traveled we can get to most Cleveland area attractions in 40 minutes or less, which in the grand scheme of things is very little time. It will be interesting to see if any of the proposed mergers happen or if the area remains separate MSAs.
  7. I came across this website with demographic/population data from the 2020 census. It includes data for State/County/City/Township/MSA/CSA etc. I thought it may be of interest, enjoy. https://data.burlingtonfreepress.com/census/total-population/total-population-change/ohio/040-39/
  8. Or possibly becuase the Akron MSA would be bringing 2 large state universities and at least 2 Fortune 500 companies to the table. However I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.
  9. Cleveland and Akron were combined at one point but I don't think Canton was ever a part of that MSA.
  10. I can't find anything online that points to Akron being dropped from Cleveland's MSA in 2003. What I did find is they were a CSA that did not include Canton(Stark) and some of the outlying counties until 2012. https://www2.census.gov/geo/maps/econ/ec2012/csa/EC2012_330M200US184M.pdf
  11. The Big difference is that Akron and Canton have 1. Always been aligned more from a cutural stand point and 2. See each other as peers. People in Akron don't see Canton as being suburb or little brother. On this very thread (and on other websites) I've seen Cleveland boosters compare Akron to cities like Lorain, Elyria, Painsville and Chagrin Falls. Now these comparisons may be antecdotal but I would guess that most in Cleveland would look at Akron as a suburb. Ultimately I'm rooting for Cleveland as it's a great city, I just think it is and can be great without ignoring Akron's own independence and trying to adopt it as a suburb.
  12. Thank you, I wasn't going to get into an argument over it but watching folks casually include Akron's MSA within "Metro Cleveland" because 3(not even large) suburbs in Summit County are more closely aligned with Cleveland is always funny. Maybe sometime in near future it will happen but as of now it's not the case.
  13. Have they ever been a part of the MSA? When were they removed from the MSA?
  14. Have Summit and Portage County been added to Cleveland's Metro?
  15. That was my understanding as well , I wish I could remember where it was said but they were pretty dogmatic there was more to it than the definition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Right, I live in Akron and my to one side works in Cuyahoga county and has not been to the office since March. My other Neighbor to direct other side works at Stark State but has been back to work . The other Neighbor next to them works at Kent State and has been back as well. Spending almost a whole year working from home has saved him a ton in not just commuting but in Lunch and Starbucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Good to hear, now we wait to see if things stay as is, if Cleveland and Akron merge or if Akron and Canton merge . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I read somewhere on another forum that cities(MSAs) can lobby against merging...not sure how true this is though. They said that Akron has essentially lobbied against merging with Cleveland and Canton has done the same concerning merging with Akron .
  19. This is from the poster ClevelandBrown on they City-Data Forum. I hope this is allowed but this is a good post on the situation in NEO.
  20. Thank you, these are numbers I remember seeing becasue there were posts about the legal threshold being close Cuyahoga and Summit. I do wonder if Akron/Summit can resist or if it's simply cut and dry on commuting pattern %s? I guess if it was then Akron and Canton would already be a combined metro.
  21. Yes, I can be in either county in 20 minutes. Thanks for the numbers. So I wonder if we would see a Akron-Canton meger sooner?
  22. I'll be honest , this situation has always confused me becuase as I understand it Summit & Cuyahoga already meets the MSA commuting threshold, as do Stark & Summit. Is this true? I know that where I live in West Akron I have neighbors who work in both Cuyahoga and Stark County. While I understand the Mayor of Akron's apprehension to this proposed meger, if done wisely regionalism is the way to go IMHO.
  23. Yes but Hudson was in a division with nothing but Akron suburbs in 2001, so it would take some gymnastics for them to group themselves with Twinsburg and the other schools who were not in their division. They were not in simply a Cleveland area conference but a Cleveland-Akron area conference in which they were in the Akron area division.
  24. The Conference he is refering to is the old Western Reserve Conference. Hudson was in the conference but was in Southern Division of the league which consisted of Akron area suburbs( Stow, Kent, Ravenna, Cuyahoga Falls, Barberton and Hudson). The Northern Division consisted of the other schools you mentioned. Twinsburg is a suburb of Cleveland while Hudson is a mixture between Akron and Cleveland. Both schools have been a part of The Suburban League which has been Akron Centric for years but now has serveral Cleveland area schools in the aforementioned areas(Twinsburg, Nordonia(Northfield/Macedonia) Brecksville-Broadview Heights, North Royalton, Aurora).
  25. I agree with your post but Mansfield is not a part of the CSA. However Wooster(Wayne County) was added recently.
