Nick Lachey buys Cincy-area home
Has one of Cincinnati's golden boys decided to come home? Lachey buys house in Colerain Twp. By Lauren Bishop Nick Lachey has bought a home in his former hometown, but sources close to the sale say that it’s for his father, not for him. The former 98º singer, who separated from wife Jessica Simpson in November, and his father, John, bought a house in Colerain Township on Dec. 23, Hamilton County Auditor records show. The Lacheys purchased the 1,934-square-foot, 12-year-old house for $339,900. The one-story brick house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The 32-year-old star of MTV’s “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica,” who grew up in College Hill, has been living in the Calabasas, Calif. home he shared with Simpson. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports on the full story.

Cincinnati: Macy's
Also announced today....they are putting Lord and Taylor on the market. Personally, I can't wait for Macy's to arrive here in metro Detroit. The Marshall-Fields (former Hudsons) stores here aren't all that great. Certainly not like MF in Chicago. I'm surprised Cincy doesn't have a Bloomingdales yet.

Beau Verre Riordan Project in downtown Middletown
Building circa 1922 - The John Ross Store Building circa 1966 - CG Murphay's Building circa 1972 while the mall was under construction I have some pictures of the building shortly after the mall's de-construction, but not electronically. I'll scan one in tom. at work for you. As you can guess, it got progressively worse while convered under the mall. The last picture was taken after work had already begun.

AK Steel Business News
Steelmaker and union face up to concessions TERRY KINNEY Associated Press MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Employees at AK Steel's Middletown Works were spared the deep cuts in wages and benefits other steelworkers faced when bankruptcies swept the industry. But a day of reckoning is at hand as the company and the union representing some 2,700 hourly workers negotiate a contract to replace the one that expires next month. Both sides acknowledge the key is in concessions AK won at its Ashland, Ky., Works in September. Company president James Wainscott called that the beginning of a "new era" in AK's labor relations and a pattern for future negotiations. It included a defined pension plan, a consolidation of job classes, elimination of workforce guarantees and increased health care expenses for employees. Read More...

Middletown: Development and News
I have heard rumblings on my last two trips back to the area as to the future of the Towne Mall in Middletown. The Towne Mall was built in the early 1970s near I-75. It was a unique mall when built because it was the only mall to have both a McAlpin's and Elder-Beerman (Sears was the third anchor). It is a single story and contains about 500,000 square feet. From what I've heard, adding another level is out of the question because of the way the structure was built. At one time, it had decent stores..Gap, Chess King, J Riggins, Limited, Lerner, etc. The 1990s were not good to the mall, and a previous owner raised rent too high and a lot of the good stores left (some just went out of business completely nationally). Today, the three anchors remain (Dillards has replaced McAlpins), but most of the stores are second and third rate. High vacancy is also an issue. Rumor has it that the mall is going to be redeveloped. I've heard several variations but the main story is that the interior portion of the mall is going to be torn down and replaced with an open-air center. One version has Sears and Dillards remaining while Elder-Beerman would leave. Another version has all three anchors staying. New tenants that are supposedly locating at the new center include Barnes and Noble and TJ Maxx. Another open-air "lifestyle" center. At least this one makes sense. The mall, as is, has little future survival.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Now that's a novel concept. And unions believe that the more unhappy their employees are, the more "secure" the union is in the plant.

Downtown Detroit in December 05'
Looking good, but I'm still not feeling homesick. ;) What interior are you showing above? I live in the western burbs, so I don't make it downtown as much as I'd like, but will make a trip for the Auto Show which is just around the corner.
