  1. Well he did move to MKE from Chicago. He kept complaining, "There's just no good shopping here." Sad that he spent all that time in Chicago and when he moves, he misses the shopping the most.
  2. Warning everyone to be afraid...very afraid. LOL sux. That's interesting that your work would send out that e-mail. Sounds like a very progressive company.

Well at least it looks as if the town had one other visitor that day!
  4. It's not quite Oakwood, but still nice :)
  5. Wow this is an old thread, but timely for me. My brother moved to MKE about a year ago. Took me that long to pay a visit. I was there about three weeks ago. He didn't set the stage very well. Told me it was like Dayton and that I wouldn't be impressed. He was wrong on both accounts. Surprised you didn't get more pics of the Third Ward. I did and will post soon.
  6. I love the bar that's in the far left building. I was just there tonight :) Most of Depot Town is well maintained. And the one building that's not is currently undergoing renovations. I didn't have my camera on me or I would have taken a pic.

    I'm lost for words.
  8. Anyone have any news on Dominics? Are they closed for good? Reopening at their currnet location? Moving? Help!!
  9. A Middletown sale would probably include Ashland as AK would want to focus more on electricial and stainless. Ashland and Middletown are cold mills. I hear over-time at both Ashland and Middletown is non-existant at the moment.
  10. I can think of worse places you could have been. Is that Todd Bell's OSU jersey that I see in one of your HOF pictures?
  11. Ouch. Well you know it's expensive to eat heathly ;) Thanks for the tour. I have never visited OU, but have heard about its beauty. I was just talking to someone whose parents went there for school, but she had never visited the campus. Morton Hall is enough to make me hate it though LOL
  12. Again???? Wow, it was closed for renovations when I first started going there. Ink, Ypsi has three commercial districts. 1.)Cross Street area around campus. Agreed. Less than impressive. 2.) Depot Town, which at this time is the most thriving of the three. Small in scale, however. 3.) Downtown (no pictures in this thread) which has seen some investment lately. I need to do a pics thread of it. Now to say its less impressive than my hometown. Well let me say, they would have never let their old library building get to the point of where Middletown's is today. EMU has one of the better Historic Preservation Programs in Michigan (in fact, Urban Planning Students at UofM rave about it). So there tends to be a strong focus on Preservation.
  13. Interesting. I didn't realize that. There are advantages of having a single property owner/manager. But there are also disadvantages.
  14. You know, the part that's missing for me in these new urbanism developments is the civic part. Sure you have shopping, entertainment, dining and living, but where are the churches, the post offices, the government agencies, the arts centers. Without those components, I wouldn't necessarily calls these "liveable."
  15. I wonder what's hiding underneath! I like what they did with the old Elder-Beerman department store building. Before, it was a pretty bland structure.
  16. The Golden Lamb? :) Thanks for the tour. Another place in Michigan I've yet to visit.
  17. Boy, they even have a view skywalks :) How very, urban. From the pics, I actually think I like this better than Easton. At least it looks like a little "town".
  18. Quick update from this morning's paper: In a related matter, Murphy said the city has received the tax abatement application from CBL & Associates, the owner of the Towne Mall. CBL is seeking a 75-percent tax abatement over the next 10 years on real property improvements after demolition. According to the application, CBL will invest $4.7 million to renovate and to construct three outlots surrounding the mall. Construction is expected to begin in October. Murphy said he is still expecting a job creation incentive grant application from CBL. If the grant is approved by Middletown City Council, it would provide CBL with a 50-percent reimbursement on new payroll taxes generated at the mall for the next 10 years. The mall would have to generate $1 million in new payroll and 25 new jobs as part of the grant agreement. Murphy said he expects both applications to be considered by council at its Sept. 18 meeting.

Cincinnati has some great neighborhoods, and I love O'Bryonville, but what the hell is that big red barn looking building?
