  1. Pretty, but too cold. Especially the water. There is a reason why nobody's in the water :)
  2. What no pics of the ball field? I really like the Knapps Office Centre. I've only been to Lansing once for work to visit with state legislators for work. I found the capitol building rather cool, especially the inside. Oh wait, make that twice. Was also at a piano bar in a rough part of town for a friend's birthday. Agree though--not very impressive capital city. Move it to Ann Arbor :)
  3. Love the neon on the building. Thanks for the pictures.
  4. That's one ugly storefront . . . Bullwinkle's coming to town Middletown bistro will occupy the former El Rancho Grande site at the Interstate 75 and Ohio 122 exchange. By Meagan Engle Thursday, September 06, 2007 MIDDLETOWN — The owners of Bullwinkle's Top Hat Bistro are sure business at their new location won't be rocky. 5. PreservationRestoration, you might be thinking of WKOI 43. That's a religious station out of Richmond. I sometimes get it in my apartment; Springfield's Channel 47 is a translator station. It used to be called "43C" in TV Guide. There is a Channel 4 in Indianapolis, WTTV (I almost said WTTE; they must have changed call letters), or Indy's CW affiliate. I must be thinking of Channel 4 out of Indy then. It was definately not a religious station.
  6. Reminds me a little of Lebanon, Ohio (pronounced Lebanan nor Lebanon--as in the country). ;)
  7. I've lived in Michigan almost 15 years, and I don't know where BH is. Now I know why.
  8. Nice FM pictures.
  9. Wow--you are serious about visiting all 88. That's quite a challenge. Thanks for sharing your adventures. I love the East Liverpool library.
  10. As Mme Diver would say . . . . Oh la la
  11. I saw the sign on their new HQ building. Looks like all the rest in that area. AK Steel corporate staff's move to West Chester Twp. begins No plans have been revealed for the former headquarters, but the company has said it will stay involved in the city. By Tim Tresslar Staff Writer Saturday, August 11, 2007 MIDDLETOWN — AK Steel Corp. has begun moving 300 of its corporate staff from Middletown to West Chester Twp., according to Alan McCoy, vice president of government and public relations. The move, announced in February, to a newly constructed office tower at Centre Pointe Office Park in Union Centre should be completed within a week, McCoy said Friday. Full article link unavailable.
  12. Great tour. You are brave. Must have been the meds from the oral surgery ;) What don't you like about the McAlpin? Personally, I hate the 5/3 tower.
  13. No...interesting! I think my dad may have some postcards of the old "mall". I'll have dig them out and scan them while I am home. I still can't get over how rough it looks.
  14. Growing up in Middletown, we used to get Channel 4 out of Indiana..I think it was a Richmond station. And yes, these commercials ran constantly.
  15. The Hamilton of Indiana right down to the Elder-Beerman. Its been a couple of years since I've been to Richmond, but it looks like it has seen some decline. Ink - you do realize that they had a pedestrian malll--they closed off a "main" street to traffic. Never covered it though LOL ;)
  16. LS Aryes. Now there is a blast from the past. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Wow ... except for the CVS/
  18. Well they are stealing 40 or so jobs from Detroit with the Quaker Chemical expansion :) http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=8528.0 But still, I know what you mean. The three recent economic development "coups" for Middletown came: 1.)This one from W. Chester 2.) PAC National from W. Chester and Lebanon and 3.) Inatech from Monroe. Still, Middletown lost AK Steel and Contech HQ to W. Chester. Kadant Black Clawson HQ to Mason, Dealer Specialties HQ to Monroe so I'm not going to complain about them "drawing" from the same area or state.
  19. Sadly, it reminds me of another decayed Ohio city that I'm all too familiar with.
  20. West Chester business relocates Ventilex USA Inc. may be moving into Middletown. 21. Surprised me as well. What's the population now and at its peak?
  22. This isn't Lebanon? Oops my mistake. How could I be so stupid.
  23. Some more comments now that I have more time. Thanks for the pictures Ink. The streets to the West of Sunset are the oldest homes and are more likely to need some work. The area to the west merges into another neighborhood known as Park Place. Sunset Park is where NBA legend and great Jerry Lucas got his start. It was also where yours truly was first paid $1 to jump off the high-dive at the pool when I was 6. I got paid with a silver dollar to which I replied, I want a bill :) I went to the pool for the first time this summer in more than 20 years. I could not believe how great it looked. You would have never thought that it had been closed for two years and needed so much work. But that's Middletown for you. The people are generous and work hard to better the community. Upper Arlington is still one of my favorite neighborhoods. The homes were built anywhere from the 1910s to the 1950s and are better maintained as you move east. The neighborhoods is very diverse with home styles. Most were built between 1920 and 1940. You have your Sears home kits, your Mediterranean-influenced homes to even a few 50s style ranches. I've heard people complain that it is a mismatch of styles, but to me, that is part of its charm. Also in the neighborhood along with Sunset Park is Wildwood Country Club. It is truly an all-American neighborhood. The white ranch with yellow shutters and all that landscaping is one of my favorites and I'm not typically a fan of ranch-style homes. The landscape of the neighborhood (and the surrounding neighborhood) will change drastically if Roosevelt school does indeed come down and when the old hospital comes down. I fear that this neighborhood will deteroriate as the growth continues to move East. Hopefully every effort will be made to maintain its charm. It's already starting to show downward signs.
