GS-OMG r u serious. This design is hideous at best, perhaps what you make after you have lost half your leggos and are stuck with a moon buggy wheel, a pirate ship keel and few misc arms and parts of a transformer. Where is the refinement, the elegance, the avant garde. Why replace brutalism with much the same, put as much glazing on the ham as you want, it's still a pig.
Perhaps Musky can resurrect the CUDC/Graduate Design projects for said corner of Cleveland done last summer and presented to CSU, GS, Schmitgen et al. and post. At the least there are 16 or so free ideas and talking points, since right now GS is seriously lacking and perhaps laughing after a bitter contract dispute. Why they even got the gig after all that fathoms most intelligent minds in town. CSU & Cleveland enjoy the leftover geometric salad GS serves you, eat it and enjoy 40 more years of indigestion.
WRL-The renderings are hardly innovative, (COOP, Zaha, and about 15 other dutch and European wannabes) and perhaps even more brutal than what's there. Why all glimmering night shots? Perhaps daytime is a shaded dark imposing mass. Look beyond the people and electronics at the form and massing. Where are the winter refuge areas? The pedestrian streetscape breaks? The greenscape? The rythmic door fronts of every successful urban fabric? The Euclid ribbon CSU is so fond of? Is this Program CSU really needs or wants or more Cleveland snake oil (Pei, Erieview etc). NBBJ's little sister WRL portends to be Cleveland's visionary soothsayers yet relegates to portraying Arch Record knockoffs at every turn as their unique vision. Perhaps THEY should work with GS!!
Clevelanders, stop the cowering, wavering, spoonfed submissive design process. It wreaks of desperation and is lagging in inspiration. Stand up and get what you want. Or enjoy GS' Dyson vacuum inspired Student Center continuing to suck the life out of Euclid.
As for local design competition, if you haven't heard by now, a 2 young locals were tired of complaining and decided to act
