Were you at the game? What did you think?

http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?ID=404650&Category=17&subCategoryID=0 I was at this game, with five friends. As I expected, it was a blast! Too bad the outcome wasn't what we were hoping for. When I'm out of school for the year, I'll be going to a few more, and I hope all of you try to make a game as well!
  3. www.marionmayhem.com www.silverbacksfootball.com The Marion Mayhem and the Miami Valley (Troy) Silverbacks are Ohio's representatives in the Continental Indoor Football League. Both the league and the teams are in their third seasons. I don't follow either team as closely as the Legends, but I'm sure there's some fans here!

The Canton Civic Center, where the Legends play, seats 4,000. Their first year, the Legends drew ~ 1000 fans, second year probably ~1500 or so, and the third, probably around the same (sadly, I could only make one home game). For their home opener this year, the Legends only drew 1150. Come on, Akron/Canton/Massilion/Wooster! Come to the games! (and Legends - promote!) http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?ID=403786&Category=17&subCategoryID=0

Essentially. The lack of nets distinguishes it, however (and means more footballs in the stands!)
  7. Herron: TIF Plan Will Bring 240 Jobs WHEELING — City Manager Robert Herron believes Wheeling’s $8 million tax increment financing plan will help create at least 240 permanent, full-time jobs in the downtown — 150 of which will pay at least $30,000 per year. Although the master downtown development plan from Pittsburgh-based consulting firm EDP has not yet been revealed, Herron said the employment figures are based on reasonable assumptions that the blighted area in the 1100 block of Main and Market streets will be redeveloped in the future. For those of you unaware... The Canton Legends are entering their fourth year in the AIFA (Atlantic Indoor Football League - American Indoor Football League - American Indoor Football Association). Going from 3-7 their first year, to back to back 10-4 seasons, the Legends are the 2006 AIFL champions.
  10. TIF Plan Could Mean Parking Lot By CASEY JUNKINS POSTED: March 7, 2008 Wheeling Councilman Barry Crow wants to see the 1100 block of Main and Market streets cleared of these dilapidated buildings to make room for future development. WHEELING — Councilman Barry Crow is ready to use $2.5 million of the city’s $8 million tax increment financing plan to remove slum and blight in the 1100 block of Main and Market streets — even if it means creating another municipal parking lot. City officials have touted their plan as one that will make way for green space and future downtown development. No specific plan has been announced, but it appears it already may be changing — a parking lot had not previously been cited as a potential use for the space. Read more at http://www.theintelligencer.net/page/content.detail/id/506724.html?nav=515 This sucks :-(. I may however, go to the meeting they are having on this issue and see how it goes.
  11. It was. I actually like Fremont quite a bit, it just needs a bit of cleaning up. It's a pretty nice town, though, and the Hayes museum is great.

I find myself in agreement. The Aeros, the MLS, the Zips, Kent State, and the Canton Legends (I had to mention them!) form a pretty strong core of sports.

Actually, though I doubt it will amount to much, I sent Mayor Robart an email mentioning this idea. The MLS would bring a lot to the community, as would an MLL team, provided an owner stepped up. Ironically, soccer-specific stadiums are pretty good for lacrosse. Any idea what affect this would have on the Aeros?
  14. I agree with the comments about the main street. However, I like Findlay and found myself quite surprised by the city when looking at the University.
  15. I couldn't think of a better place for it. Downtown Offers Wheeling Great Potential for Growth By JOSELYN KING Staff Writer Many people remember downtown Wheeling as a thriving, booming place — a place where they and thousands of others went each day to shop, eat and be entertained. Now, however, only a handful of shops remain downtown, and the area’s main entertainment venue — the Capitol Music Hall — has been shuttered by LiveNation for fire code violations. In fact, most of the city’s commerce now takes place outside of downtown in neighborhoods such as Warwood, Elm Grove and Woodsdale, which led Peggy Porter of St. Clairsville to ask the question, “Are areas outside of downtowns thriving? Why is all the focus on downtown, particularly in Wheeling?” Read more at http://www.theintelligencer.net/page/content.detail/id/506147.html?nav=5041

That is a great idea! Back in 2006 when the Cuyahoga Falls Cougars were playing I had suggested building an arena on the site. The idea being that the site could host the Cougars (if they were successful), hockey, arena football, or the MISL. However, this is a much better idea. Now that the plaza is being demolished, this could work quite well!
  17. Being a Wooster native who hasn't seen Wooster in like a month, you have no idea how good it feels to see the town again. :-) PS - I hope Matsos' was good. Next time you pass through, if it's early enough, try the Parlor.
  18. Definitely. I'm just in awe of the place (Wheeling, itself, not campus. Though campus is nice.) btw: Go Ohio Valley Greyhounds!
  19. Score. Great place. Just watch out for the Milan PD.....they like to sit in the alley behind the Invention and catch speeders on 113 and 250........gotta love small town police....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr haha, I don't need to worry. It's been at least five years since I was there. Seems like yesterday, though. It was certainly preferable to the quiche at Gingerbread Junction which I was supposed to have eaten. :-P
  20. Score. Great place.
  21. As I mentioned before, I'm now in Wheeling. The first (majority of the) shots are of the campus. The others are shots I got in and near East Wheeling while I was at the East Wheeling Street Fair. It will be featured in the next school newspaper. http://www.theintelligencer.net/page/content.detail/id/52743.html (the Wheeling Intelligencer article about the East Wheeling Street Fair.) (Our view got destroyed... :x) Donahue Hall, one of the oldest on campus. Which doesn't say much, since that dates it to around 1954. Well, some of the view still exists. The Erma Ora Byrd Center for Educational Technologies. And the President's office. The nicest building on camps IMO. The Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center. The Chapel of Mary and Joseph. Hope you enjoyed. Wheeling is one amazing town.

Now that I'm there, I can say that yes it's quite sunny in Wheeling. And unfortunately, very hot right now. But the view from campus is beautiful. I'll try to get pics up sometime. PS - I actually did some community service in East Wheeling. They're putting a lot of effort into revitalizing the neighborhood properties, and will be putting in some new houses on empty lots when they can. Unfortunately, I forget the name of the group doing this.
  23. Good to see the Invention restaurant is there. A few years ago my dad had some business thing at Sawmill resort. So I got stuck going around with the wives. While they enjoyed quiche at a place called "Gingerbread Junction," I scarfed down a cheeseburger and fries at the Invention. It actually is a pretty nice town. Is there still a glut of antique shops?

Nah. Someone just had it up for fun I guess. That happens around here sometimes. And evergrey - I will be.
