Cleveland City Stars Discussion
Isn't there some team called the Internationals, too? And it's too bad about the Force. One of the guys who is trying to bring MLS to Cleveland was talking about folding the Force b/c Cleveland's not a soccer town while pursuing the MLS franchise.

Toledo: Warehouse District: Development and News
I saw some Mansfield in them, as well. Lots of potential. Great shots!

Smithville
Smithville, OH (pop. 1,333) is located about 10 minutes east of Wooster. I recently was able to get some photos, since my friends and I occasionally play basketball there. I went back today and finished up the set, hence the haziness in some pictures and the sun in others. In addition to being the birthplace of a former Senator, Smithville is also home to The Barn (a restaurant - http://www.thebarnrest.com/), and is also a notorious speed trap. :p

Troy, Ohio: Seat of Miami County
Ah, Hobart - home of the Miami Valley Silverbacks! Probably one of the coolest arenas in the CIFL - at least from the outside images I've seen.

Wooster: Some Completed Projects & Some Random Shots
Well, they have bands a lot. Once a friend and I showed up to talk about politics outside and they tried to assess us one because it was in that little fenced off area. I do agree though, the atmosphere is going to be awful. And that Enterprise dealership is right next to a Buick/Cadillac dealership, so I guess it could've been their offices at one time. Whatever, it's definitely cool looking. :)

Wooster: Some Completed Projects & Some Random Shots
No. They're moving. The owner actually owns the new building, whereas they apparently don't have a favorable lease currently. It will be nice to not be assessed a cover charge for standing outside like it is currently.

Wooster: Some Completed Projects & Some Random Shots
So today, the new main branch of the Wayne County Public Library opened. I didn't have a lot of time, but I grabbed a few shots of it, and some other projects in Wooster. In addition, as I walked around, I took a few other shots as well. Enjoy! So first, the library: The first shot is of the back, where I parked. (it was kind of cloudy today, so these shots aren't the best. I don't know if you can see it, but above the front door it says "PUBLIC LIBRARY." Kind of cool.) While trying to find a parking spot, I shot this out of the window of my car. This is the one that we talked about in the other thread that was formerly blue. They're almost finished, and I like it, but it doesn't have a lot of character IMO. These others are over on the opposite end of Liberty St. This used to be a car dealership, the guy who owned it would always be on roller skates in his ads. This is turning out really well also, I'm just glad they were able to save it. This empty lot used to have a huge building on it, but it burned down sometime in 1999 while they were restoring it. It's going to become a park, which will definitely be better than what it is now. This last "project" might be familiar to some of you who have been through or in Wooster and know where Seattle's Coffee House is. This is going to be their new location sometime soon. It will have as much restroom space as the current building has in eating space, according to the Daily Record. The city is starting a streetscape project this year which will improve all of Beall Ave., and moving in is meant to coincide with that. The rest of these are buildings I liked as I passed through. Some of them I'd never really paid attention to before...like the most awesome former Enterprise Rental Car I've ever seen. Somebody's gotta restore this! (I find that sign kind of creepy. There hasn't been a building there for years, and this was all in some back alley. I used the zoom liberally to get a shot of this. :p) And I'll close out with something I saw yesterday. Woohoo! :-D

Tiffin, Ohio: Seat of Seneca County
Tiffin is a pretty nice town, I actually visited Tiffin University last summer. I don't remember the courthouse looking *that* bad, but I didn't get too close to it.

Minor League sports?
...and some remotely good news (I mean, I suppose it's not that relevant considering I'll be in college for their season) Wooster is getting a professional hockey team! www.woosterwarriors.com Having already been "burned" by the Rumble experience, it will be interesting to see how this works out.

Manchester, England's 2nd largest city
Wow, Manchester looks like an amazing city! And I'm glad to see that I'm not the only New Order/Joy Division fan on here.

Urbana, Ohio: Seat of Champaign County
What's the college like? Oh, and excellent pictures.

Rex Humbard's Cuyahoga Falls tower
Yes, the Cathedral Buffet is quite awesome.

Xenia, Ohio: Seat of Greene County
Gummo, probably. Yeah, there isn't much to Xenia, but it really isn't their fault. Blame mother nature. Yep, it was Gummo. ...not really fair to the city, especially since most of it was filmed in Nashville. And this is probably in the thread about Carnegies, but when was the library abandoned? After the tornado?

Xenia, Ohio: Seat of Greene County
Great photos. It seems like a perfectly nice town, but ever since I saw the trailer for some movie that takes place in Xenia, it will always seem a little weird to me. :-P

Minor League sports?
Uh, yeah...about that. The Rumble were originally slated to play at the Toledo Sports Arena...they backed out or something, so they came to Wooster. We were all pretty hyped about it, but they never bothered to be sure of how many people the Alice Noble Ice Arena could hold. When they found out it would be too expensive for too few people, they left. The whole thing has been a joke and if the Summit County Rumble come back next year, it will have to be with new owners. Actually, their league does have some really good teams that do everything right, but the Rumble certainly don't reflect that.

Dayton's oldest surviving shopping center--McCook (+ one or two others)
Are you sure this is being torn down? It looks like it's being redeveloped...

Wooster...
The rest. This pretty much finishes up downtown, the College/College Hills area will be next. If I think of anything else downtown to add, you can be sure I will. :-) That house, here and in the last post, is actually a monastery. They exist, but apparently aren't "sanctioned" by the church. Funeral home across the street. Nursing home. That last church was founded in 1812, I believe the building was built then, as well. Aside from that house, many of the houses in downtown Wooster are now offices. City Hall! And finally, my former stomping grounds, the former Wooster High School, converted to Cornerstone Elementary School in 1996. It's far more impressive than I could ever show it to be.

Akron Goodyear Hall and World of Rubber Museum
Considering Akron's size, it's a wonder that they don't have very many sports options. If they ever want to get anything like minor league hockey, arena football, etc., perhaps the gym portion of Goodyear Hall could be put to use?

Wooster...
Well, here's some of it. "Skyline." I drove all the way out to the Bob Evans to get this picture, you better like it. There's more Churches coming soon...and city hall.

Wooster...
More pictures coming, as soon as I resize and stuff. I warn you, however, they won't be as high-quality as the others, the weather wasn't on my side today. :-P

Wooster...
Indeed, it opened in December. They've done really well, and I don't think it's hurt business too much, since Seattle's usually gets the college crowd, and on days when appetizers aren't 1/2 at CW's, the high school crowd. I hope Cold Stone didn't hurt Scoops :( Ssscoops went out of business a few months ago, but it was because the owner moved and couldn't find anyone to sell it to.

Wooster, Ohio
Are you sure? It looks like they just have flowers sitting in the street for the festival. Notice the hay bales (or bails?) supporting them? The flowers must've been a temporary installation as that area in front of the buildings is a small parking lot. The buildings are set back from the street behind the lot. 3 quarters of the "square" are parking lots (with a chintzy gazebo) and the northwest quarter of the square doesn't exist... because that's where the courthouse is. The major north-south and east-west through routes go through the middle of this imaginary square. I assume this square was more park-like at one time... but now it's more parking-like. The flowers were (are, since they do it every year) for Woosterfest, the local Oktoberfest. ah ok... I unfortunately never made it to Woosterfest... I had to go out of town that weekend... but it looked like a big deal... I had a Wooster photo thread on here too... but unfortunately all my links are now broken :( Yeah, I was just trying to view that. PS - You didn't miss much at Woosterfest. How long did you live here?

Wooster...
Here's some more...food for viewing. "Freedlander's: It Pays to Buy Quality!" Gosh, even when I was a kid (which wasn't that long ago) and my Mom would take me downtown, this place would be packed. Now it's down to one story of actual retail... Yes, this was the old jail. ...with the new justice center across the street. School District building. I thought this looked cool. Masonic Temple. The lineup of courthouse + temple+ school board is really impressive.
