Cleveland: Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station Redevelopment
Facebook was kind enough to inform me that a friend of mine was tagged in some Burning River Fest photos from the other weekend, while looking at them, I saw in the background an architectural "plan" for the old coast guard station titled "envision the future" or some thing. Anyone have any Info on who contracted out those schematics or what the realistic time frame is towards completion? I wasn t there so I did not get a close look at it but its obvious that it was set up as a display on the wall there

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
The reality here is that this has nothing to do with race at all. The WHD residents, businesses, motorists (taxis, limos, civillian) have ALL been complaining to the police and politicians about how UNMANAGEABLE the street crowds are getting on W.6th. The reaction is a larger police presence on Fri,Sat nights. And what do they discover? The streets are UNMANAGEABLE because they are filled with JUVENILES who are too YOUNG to get into the bars that as previously mentioned, are loitering, not buying anything from the businesses except maybe paninis if they are even allowed in there, obstructing the street and sidewalk so people cant get past them, and harassing patrons of these establishments, because white or black, thats what juveniles do when they are in groups, become obnoxious to others. Yes, the majority of these people are locals who walk, or ride the bus down, and the predominate race of these people are black. Its so disgustingly clear to see how the media is trying to stir this up in to a Black vs Police fight. DONT fall for it. Jackson and Cimperman clearly stated why they ASKED the police to crackdown how they did which is TOO MANY COMPLAINTS OF JUVENILES HARASSING/INTERFERING WITH THE RESIDENTS AND PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!

Definitely do not support the renaming of the school, I think changing it is just stupid at this point, it is what it is, after 40-50 years as CSU going University of Cleveland just seems like a lame attempt at brand change, just like the Jake went Prog, it ll always be the Jake, plus CSU sounds better

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
trust me, without knowing the details, and assuming the actual building will look nothing like that, its STILL a god send from what is there now. Despite the fact the current district is 50 years old, fairly confident the ONLY reason this is happening is the city will gain ALOT from selling the current site, all of which I support, however I don't think the needs of the city are a concern here as opposed to the needs of the cities pocketbook for the current real estate

No, next block over to the East of the fire station. I actually hope the City holds on to it for 5-10 years so they will get what its WORTH. The current location is almost to the extreme eastern boundary of the 3rd district area after the old 5th district became the NEW 3rd, 2-3 years ago when they downsized from 6 districts to 5, and wanted to make the MUCH needed new HQ more centrally located for response times in the new district.

The current HQ at 10300 Chester will be vacated, I have no idea what the city plans to do with the property, I m sure try to sell it, the building is quite deplorable. The Payne avenue building is home to some specialized units as well as dispatch. I have been told that the long range goals of the city are to turn the current City of Cleveland portion of the Justice Center in to jails and move all of the specialized units into Payne Avenue. But apparently this has been the rumor for the past 10 years and there is only minimal movement towards this since then

Ohio Navigable Waterways (non-Great Lakes)
It says cargo volume, which makes sense considering the amount of petroleum exported from Texas. Texas is also a big military outload port for the Military Sealift Command

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Question, all the DT hotels gathered in protest to prevent Gilbert from adding a hotel to his casino because it would LOWER their already TOO LOW occupancy rates and would kill them off. If this is actually the case, how can the city support all these hotels in FEB, UC, and now on E.9th which to my count is at 5? Wont that oversaturate the market?

In regards to where the criminals are coming from, yes they do come from everywhere. But I can also tell you that "the single mother raising kids" is typically not an "innocent" situation as far as section 8 housing goes. Whether mom's working 20 hours a day to bring in minimum wage paychecks to pay the bills, or more typically, mom never had a "mom/dad" to love, care, and raise her to the point that she can functionally raise another human being herself, it all comes down to the kids, and the "parenting" just is not there. Most of the kids I come across in my line of work, mom and dad are nowhere in their life, its normally aunt or grandma raising them, thats why "senior housing is not innocent" either. The kids are typically the ones doing this because no one watches them, and quite frankly, IMO, their parents really don't care. Each kid is just more money they get from SSI, per month, Its sad, absolutely. And kid criminals grow up to be adult criminals who have babies, lots and lots of babies, but they never have a family, its baby mama's, again personally, I think its almost a status quo these days to see how many baby mama's 1 can obtain, and the cycle continues.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
As much as free booze 24/7 would be sweet, it would be a death blow to rejuvenating DT. And I have to believe that that is some misinformation about closing at 230am as I think we would have heard more about this prior to the deadline, outside of the smoking, free booze, opening in phases and 24 hr bar issues that the media has been fixated on. Plus as I read that line, unclear it is, but I can see that just saying the casino bar would close just like a normal bar, not as in the CASINO will close like a bar

327, I agree, it is rediculous and they should absolutley have them. All I'm saying id that if you want them to be there on the City Dime, and not a private-public partnership like DCA, the residents and business owners of those areas need to voice that to their area elected officials, cuz otherwise, it aint gonna happen. Disclaimer, I have no problem informing the taxpayers of a service in which I perform for them, but I am in NO way a spokesperson for the CPD or CPPA

EC, you are correct, prevention is the Key. NYPD is champion of this, as it is taught in college courses dubbed "The Broken Window" theory, lock them up for the small crimes will prevent the big crimes. NYPD has 50,000 officers to put on every street corner to deter crime, Cleveland has 1600, hence we RE-act and are not PRO-active. CPD is set up for 2000 officers, they haven't had that since 2003 layoffs, which puts us at 75% operating capacity, imagine if your business only had 75% of the workers it needed to function properly, what do u think the result would be? Again, this is at the politicians direction, The Chief and Safety Director are screaming for more people that's why they hired me last year and laid me off 2 months later,(I just got hired back last week) they even have another class that was supposed to start in August, but there are still 40 officers laid off. Politicians care about 1 thing, RE-election, if enough of their registered voters start telling them they are unhappy with their performance, only then you will see change 327, There is 1 CPD traffic unit, they are based DT and to my knowledge operate during rush hour, special events and are detailed to special attention areas throughout the city, there goal is to write tickets and investigate traffic accidents. Beyond that i believe every district has 1 traffic car whose mission is essentially the same. Basic patrol officers will do traffic during the course of answering assignments if time will allow. I will just tell you that the traffic stop is THE most efficient tactic in law enforcement, that is how 90% of all criminals are found. And the revenue generated from those tickets and the outcome for discovering crime is why traffic stops are ESSENTIAL to any law enforcement. Yes more time should be devoted to entertainment districts ( sounds ideal for the Mounted Unit which has been withered down to 3 officers I believe, despite the fact they have about 10 horses) but again manpower here is the issue. As far as the "Deer Incident" all i know is that I was not there, they made a mistake and they are paying for it by not receiving a paycheck for 6 months. They F@#$ed up. I believe they did what they were supposed to, but they didn't do it as good as they should have. The amount of paperwork in law enforcement is ungodly. But that's the price we pay in actually or potentially taking away someones civil right of freedom via incarceration. Responding to 911 calls isn't just driving lights and sirens to and from 911 calls. There's the Interviews, Investigations, and Reports to be written, that takes TIME! Is it possible to sit around in a cruiser for 40 minutes and be doing nothing but responding to 911 calls, ABSOLUTELY. Example, I received 4 calls yesterday as soon as roll call was out and it was 3 hours later before I reached the last call. Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. And then when you take away things like computers, cars that actually drive, good communications, and any other technology which will only expediate the process, well it only prevents us from answering calls sooner, and this is what were given to work wioth here in Cleveland.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
And yes, criminals are everywhere and self awareness is the first thing in crime prevention and don't forget, this is a big city and all big cities typically have crime issues. But, that is not an excuse. Having said that, ALOT of criminals do originate and reside on the EASTSIDE. In my short time on the job, the 3 stolen vehicles I have personally recovered, all were found East of E.55th and were all stolen out of LAKEWOOD. Not saying Lakewoods evil, although its alot different now than when i grew up there, but kids from Carver Park know that the Doctors live in Avon, Medina, etc, they see them drive past their projects in their Volvos and BMW's at least twice a day. But its easier and more profitable to cruise to a Cleveland yuppy bar or yuppy suburb and rob/steal from there, than it is their own hood. My point is criminals know where the money is and they travel to it. Lakewood, DSW, Its not that hard to hop on RTA and be in any suburb in 40 minutes, steal a car and joyride it for the weekend.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
There is alot of coulda-shoulda-woulda discussion going on here, some I agree with some I dont. However, from someone who works for CPD, I can tell you the best course of action to take in hopes of rectifying this is to call and complain to your local POLITICIANS, after filing a police report of course. This city is not proactive, it is reactive. CPD, along with any other city department operates on a shoestring budget, which BARELY accomplishes the most minimal tasks. There are 5 districts in this city, each district has roughly 6-7 zones (all of which can be located on the C of C Police Website). During a standard 10 hour shift, each zone has 2 patrol cars assigned to it, outside of any specialized units operating in that area, which is most likely not the case. Last year CPD had 350,000 calls, i'm not gonna do the math, but odds are those 2 patrol cars for your zone are going from 911 call to 911 call, leaving NO TIME for an AREA patrol, which is what is needed to DETER crime. I wont even get in to the fact that the city doesn't fix the radio system, or the broke computers in the cars so we can look up bad guy info, or isn't even installing computers in the brand new cars. I hope it upsets you all, because it upsets all of us on the job. But my point here is that this is not at the police department level. Not the Chief or the Safety Director can make or correct these decisions. Yes, they can make recommendations, but only the Mayor, City Council, and Finance committees are gonna be the people who can make change, much much needed change.

That's a good point TBideon brought up, is there any planning for frat houses or a frat row in these developments? Im a CSU alumni, so i know that a few frats do exist, however it seems in the past few years the 2-3 frat houses that did exist across the highway seem to have all been replaced or are for sale?
