Cleveland Question
There is about 3 separate homeless shelters in that exact little area, which unfortunately, mainly consists of sexual offenders

I believe that in the last few pages, there is a link to a request for bids from CSU for this exact project, so its progressing I presume.

Rocky River: 11 River
Drove past this today and there is ALOT of excavation going on. Thought this became a victim of the economy like the development proposed on the otherside of the river, but apparently its taking shape.

Absolutely agree, I noticed that years ago. Most recently i saw a sprint commercial and they were driving on a map of cleveland. I think its small enough but big enough and its centrally located, makes it perfect fo references

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Honestly, I bet the same amount of people are riding, but 18% of the riders from last year realized that they simply don't have to pay. They only check tickets at TC, when you get off. As a taxpayer I'm upset they don't have A person at every station selling tickets, ensuring safety of riders, not letting people in if they don't have a ticket. Yes i realize that costs money but you gotta spend money to make money. Create some more jobs.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
I'm still waiting for an explanation as to how the 2 REAL aquarium options (non-jacobs) are different from another and why they don't just merge together, outside of my uninformed common sense telling me that its a money game, with one group getting rich off this while the other does not, with both groups being too selfish to split the proceeds half and half

Cleveland: Cleveland State University News & Info
Awesome, I'm glad that the powers that be all view football as positive. Hopefully it will come to fruition. I also thought Cleveland University sounded better than what was proposed, although I really have no problem with CSU.

And what is the status of the football team, outside of a Crains article from April saying they were looking into it, I haven't heard anything and I thought that was to be finalized before Schwartz left?

So, I wound up at Barley House last night and the DJ kept saying MTV Real World Cleveland 2011 all night long, anyone know anything more?

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
WTF? where is the planning/zoning commission in all this? This and Prospect will do nothing but scare away business from downtown, not to mention turn the Healthline into a "bum" express. Do they not realize this? Do they just not care? These people need a place to stay I understand, but this is NOT it. 90% of the people that stay at those shelters are addicts, schizophrenics, or sex offenders, and the remaining 10% just down on their lucker's are weirdo enough that you arent gonna feel safe sitting next to them on the bus or walking past them out to your car, day or night. Very frustrating. As someone who wants/supports Cleveland to rebound and tries to convert the naysayers, its SH%^ like this that voids all progress, gives them fodder, and makes me have to agree with them.

Cleveland: Safety Force Layoffs
The city told the CPPA they needed 4.1 million dollars to offset the deficit, that was our proportional share for the CPPA, (fyi they asked the FOP for 1.1 mil) they said give us that by giving up your uniform allowance and longevity pay, and 50 officers wont lose their job. Union counter offered with a 6 million dollar savings in which we kept all of our current pay, and we got layoff notices 2 days before x mas. Union practically unanimously voted against the concessions. I myself voted no, essentially voting to lay myself off. Why, might u ask? Cleveland, mentioned above, is already one of the lowest paying equivalent cities as is. they paid us 10.50 an hour for the academy, all other cities give u full pay, for Cleveland that would be about 23 an hour, academy is 6 months. We are in debt from the city paying us jack up to this point, i spent 2,ooo dollars of my own money on uniforms, 3,000 tax write off in all, again something else which is provided for officers in other cities, that i needed to buy before i could start work, after already digging myself in a whole. Its BS the amount of debt we took on just becoming a CPD officer, and this is where we say no more. The union voted to give us laid off folks 1,000 dollars a month as opposed to giving up money to the city, that is the common sentiment amongst the officers. Is the city in tough times, yes, but u already stripped the workers down to the bone. It is a contract negotiation year and the mayor graduated us and a fire academy knowing he couldn't sustain us past this year because he had a re election to win, so politics is very much apart of this. Safety forces comprise 70% of the city budget (I read somewhere) because they are a solid blue collar job. All these other jobs, minus cabinet positions, these people are the working poor. Little pay, no benefits, and you wonder why social secirity and medicare is bankrupting states, but that's a different discussion altogether

Cleveland: Safety Force Layoffs
As someone who will be unemployed at 8am Monday, I will tell you that the unpaid furlough days were not presented to the police department from city hall due to the fact that in taking a furlough day would result in another officer getting called in to replace that officers absense at the rate of time and half, there fore not an option.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
OK, does anyone know for a fact this area is definitely a demo? i ve been driving past this area for months now with work, and it looks like too much effort for just a demo, it appears to me as though they are completely stripping the building for a re-use, i cant believe they would put this much time and money into a demo. Considering the area, i would hate to see the architecture go, but with the placement of the building and the amount of surface lot surrounding it, i cant say that its demise would be a bad thing if, as long as it it gave way to a more urban friendly structure(s)

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
After reading some of the recent comments on here about the Sowell incident, just so its documented on the forum, I would like to note the fact that only 2 out of 11 women were ever reported missing to the CPD (1 more in Warrensville Heights I believe). And yes, he should have never been let out of prison to begin with, but thats not the CPD's fault, thats the Systems fault (Legislators, Judges, and Lawyers). And because of those same group of people, CPD (or the Sheriffs Office whose actual jurisdiction the Sex Offender venue is) cannot just enter a registered sex offenders house and do a spot check (IMO they should, but they cant) without PROBABLE CAUSE. So really, who dropped the ball? The CPD who did everything that they were LEGALLY allowed to do, or everyone who made a profit, campaign contribution, or vote off of questioning/chastising what PROBABLE CAUSE really is? This is the system others have created for us!! And this is the result. Hope ur happy, I know im not, I ll just blame the police, its easiest that way!

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I cant tell you how many times I ended up not paying cuz I couldnt figure out the machine before I heard my scheduled train rumbling into the station and just chanced it. As a Democrat, that machine is so FUBAR, I can not believe its not linked to the whole county corruption scandal(s)

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Closest related thread I could find, I know people keep talking about bridges to join the west bank with the rest of downtown, but with the heavy river traffic and cost of manning/operating some sort of moveable bridge, wouldn't some sort of cable car system, i.e. NYC/Roosevelt island be more practicle?

Why does it seem that most people hate Cleveland?
I grew up in Lakewood, college grad, and am one of about half my group of friends who like Cleveland or at least are staying put for now. The biggest reasons why the half who say it sucks here is mainly due to the weather, u'd think after 25 years in Cleveland they would be used to it but I guess only the strong survive. That, along with the syndrome commonly called the "grass is always greener on the other side". But rest assured, in lieu of the police and fire flight from Westpark, alot of my friends who all have degrees in accounting, business, nursing, alot of them having masters, are luckily all buying up the very Westpark houses that the cops and firemen are leaving behind, so Cheers to the Cleve.
