  1. There are quite a few people who live in OTR and Northside too. The most worrisome aspect is people who say "I was for Yvette... but..." and even a fair number of people who say they are for her now say they have reservations. The f*hipster account stated he was in Northside.
  2. The election is close to my understanding and Yvette needs both the AA and white urbanists/progressives to support her. This is designed to weaken the latter as IMO from my general understanding (though its hardly scientific) most of the AA community is with Yvette right now. Much of the latter group is already a bit weary of her due to her taking stances to the left of where most of Cincinnati stands (even the progressives), and this might have been the final straw for a few people. That's at least the reaction I'm seeing on reddit...
  3. This is the source of the fliers: http://www.wcpo.com/news/insider/simpson-campaign-denies-creating-fliers-accusing-cranley-of-racism-mismanagement "Pierce Communications does advertising work for Republicans across the state. Locally, it has worked on outgoing City Councilman Charlie Winburn's campaign. He paid Pierce more than $67,000 in 2013 for ad work on his council re-election campaign, city records show."
  4. I'm seeing responces on reddit and its ugly people are getting really turned off by Simpson being too extreme... >:( Even though she didn't even do these flyers! They could have even been posted by the opposition just to get people away from her
  5. I've fixed the link, old habits die hard.
  6. It also seems that they are posting hit pieces against the candidates they don't like too...
  7. Gut feeling from what I've been seeing is that liberal white support is a touch weaker but African American support is MUCH stronger.
  8. Is this just wish fulfillment on the part of the Enquirer or has there really been a back-shelving on expansion of the streetcar? *FIXED LINK* https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2017/10/31/heres-why-politicians-arent-talking-cincinnati-streetcar/806719001/
  9. And someone said on this thread I believe that the creditworthiness of these guys was better, you know they could have researched the mob background. This really should have gotten more attention than Mahogany's it was a complete scam.
  10. I kind of think Mallory was an exception to this rule, unless you have arguments otherwise? IMO Mallory was effective by generally being very low key about things not causing a lot of ruckus and working behind closed doors when he could which was good for a town where the whole media apparatus is against you... (I don't think Simpson will be as effective as he was IMO).
  11. IMO this is going to be a tough race, and as I've said before it will hinge on the African American vote.
  12. ^-I think you'd like someone like Rahm Emanuel who has a lot of Cranley's negatives on personality but is actually pretty good on urbanist issues and is still very pro business...
  13. Yeah not a good move for someone running in Cincinnati (though it would be great here in Chicago). Though IMO with the way things seem to work give it 10 years, Cincinnatians might adjust a bit more to that idea...
  14. Sometimes such orgs need pushback. One of Cincinnati's biggest problems is complacency in not pushing back at those kinds of organizations. Anyone can act like garbage, doesn't matter what their mission is. Respecting authority because authority is kind of dumb. How many lower income African Americans in Avondale would care about Childrens International Reputation anyhow? I mean not many of them would even have the insurance to be able to send their kids there other than maybe an emergency room visit or some kind of "charitable outreach" they do now and then. IMO they'd probably be more interested in keeping their neighborhood safe and intact.
  15. And what did Cranley do that was actually worthwhile?
  16. Hurt her with establishment types like yourself who normally wouldn't have voted for her anyways ;). As someone who formerly lived in Corryville and witnessed all the neighborhood destruction in the area, I was cheering her on. I'm sure other people felt the same way, particularly those who LIVE in those parts of town.
  17. Shouldn't forget white west side. Cranley's biggest support areas are white west side neighborhoods, and wealthier areas on the East Side. Yvette's core area is urbanists in the center of the city. The black vote is up for grabs, as Mallory won with both the Black vote and the urbanist vote and that's what Yvette needs to win too (though their are fewer white west siders in the city and more urbanists in the core these days than in 2006).
  18. Also the vote that's split on Cranley is black, Simpson needs to gain a few. White Urbanists already know who they are voting for as do white Hyde Park types.
  19. He also totally screwed over Megabus riders who wanted to stop downtown as well by putting the stop in the dead middle of nowhere. If I were in Cincy I'd probably vote Quinlivan, even though she's got issues she stands up for the right things. I'm not surprised that the Dems were not endorsing Bauman... Probably too good for them :/
  20. Hey look its the Cincinnati streetcar, er Yarra Tram made in Melbourne:
  21. I found out that one of my favorite buildings in OTR got restored: https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2017/07/21/get-a-look-at-the-latest-condos-in-over-the-rhine.html?ana=twt#g1 This is the Chicago-y (but about a story higher, narrower and with a more elaborate cornice than any you'd find up here) Greystone that has been abandoned for a long time.
  22. Panera, yeah I get it. I'm pretty shocked about Toby Keith's because even when the deal happened if you googled their name, their were lawsuits already flying out, the credit rating must have been based on confidence scoring agencies had on a celebrity endorsement... I think a bit of research could have helped the city not make that deal. Mahogany's I'll agree was too much risk to bear out. You don't take risks you don't get rewards. Their are good reasons why the Bay Area is killing everyone else when it comes to economic development IMO. Cincinnati has enough of a diverse industrial/commerical base that it can afford to take a few risks now and then.
  23. Cincinnati isn't dying now (though their was a good argument for it dying back in 2006), however it is not living up to its potential in the least. Its confounding to me how hard it is for people to wrap their heads around how unique Cincinnati is in the Midwest, that's why my rhetoric is so harsh - you're getting C+ grades when you could be getting As with the assets you have if leadership understood its potential value more instead it seems money is being thrown at developing industry in Bond Hill, why isn't some of that port money focused on making the core city more desireable and attractive? Every midwest city advertises to tourists in Chicago in the summer except for one, guess who that is? Even Columbus has ads telling people they are a worthy city to consider moving to. There is money in Cincy unlike a lot of the rest of the rust belt, but that money isn't focused on quality of life, its focused on pet projects of the people who contribute the most money to the politicians. There is a lot Cincinnati isn't doing because I think its priorities are messed up and in the long run this is going to lead to continued relative decline to the point where the city could lose out even though its a long term game.
  24. I'm still frustrated that Mahogany's gets more attention than the far worse deal that was done with Toby Keith's I love this Scam (google the bar's name and you'll find a giant list of lawsuits all over the country), more city money was given to them than Mahogany's but their wasn't any kind of news stories about that... Btw A lot of these "social experiments" were trying out new ideas and seeing what stuck. IMO its something Cincinnati should try more, while some were poorly thought out, not all were - for instance Mallory pushed for the World Choir Games which IMO was a success and helped the city's morale, ditto with the 21C Hotel and even getting a Panera bread downtown. Also the artworks Murals he had a hand in getting started and when I took friends down to Cincinnati that was one of the first things they complimented. He was doing the kinds of experimentation that was sorely needed in Cincinnati. These days Cranley seems to only be interested in developing big box suburban style developments in peripheral neighborhoods. If the business community got angry at this - tough junk, they've been doing poor decisions for their hometown for too many years and saying no to everything. They should own up to their dysfunction. (See the whole Dennison mess for the latest chapter of what they think are good ideas).
  25. I think the articles I have posted links to show that 3CDC, from a very early point, was focused on OTR. You can choose to believe Mallory did this but the articles I have posted to say otherwise. Yes the progress and completion of a lot of these projects happened under Mallory but if you will have a hard time convincing me that he had a personal impact on the project execution of these things. I'd he happy to hear otherwise as I'm a big fan of his but lets not have our passion distort the facts. When I lived in Cincinnati the city was an absolute mess. People were squabbling over the stupidest junk and nothing was getting done while the city was literally rotting to the core. Mallory did backroom deals and set things on the right path. When I get a few mins I'll dig into the thread and show you when it changed. You can find all this information on this forum. It was the Washington Park Elem school and not the SCPA (which IMO was also wrong in doing what they did but what the Elementary school proposed was far worse).
