  1. When Wendy's had signs up saying Zagat Rated, they jumped the shark IMO.
  2. These guys are so myopic if they think housing costs are a problem in Cincinnati - literally this is the first time in decades property values are on the rise for Cincy (in certain areas) and then people think oh wait we're totally having a problem because like I heard this article about San Francisco housing and.... Apples and Oranges. I know San Fran has hills and Victorians too BUT...
  3. Yeah the condos in Mariemont are top notch and fit perfectly into the asethetics of the neighborhood. Its an improvement over the midcentury apartment buildings they replaced frankly. I'm hoping to see the same from him in Downtown Cincy. Getting rid of the parking lots through partnerships sounds like a great idea too - I know a lot of folks here don't like the idea of more garages, but I think that's probably what he's talking about, some kind of combined parking/apartment developments that are a win for refilling the city and a win for the parking lot guys who still wish to profit from their lots.
  4. At the very least people should start using the bus system that is already there. Metro Plus for instance makes commuting from OTR to "Pill Hill" very fast, and in general bus service between OTR and uptown is adequate - the two are close enough that in spite of the downsides of bus transit its not that bad. I think that's the first step towards people demanding better - at least help create a culture of transit use which I think the streetcar is a good piece of the puzzle and get more people to demand better. When I lived in Cincy btw, the only time I ever used the bus was to go from uptown to downtown - and literally the only thing I could really use it for was commuting to work as downtown was super dead. These days there is stuff in downtown and OTR so the areas where the bus system is good are far more useful than they used to be.
  5. Not sure if I like that as a restriction as it precludes a lot of large institutional buildings from adaptive reuse (like Woodward).
  6. I'm hoping that as Walnut Hills is redeveloped this helps with getting choice riders to use transit. Peeble's corner has some of the best in the city and its literally like 15 mins to downtown by bus with buses coming ~10-15 mins. The Bus Tracker app is a game changer too once someone decides to transform the API into something useful.
  7. Any developers in the house? The API (Application Program Interface) has finally been released so that developers can make their own bus tracking apps! http://cincymap.org/blog/sortas-real-time-api-now-available-for-developers/
  8. ^-I kind of felt the same way about Mt Adams - it was an island in the sky so that helped with gentrification. Same deal with Dearborn Park in Chicago: http://www.sloopin.com/2011/08/did-dearborn-park-have-to-be-walled-off.html (I hate that area btw, no matter what transit mode you use its a pain to get around or to). Getting back to Cincy the best thing for Mt Adams IMO is to improve Walnut Hills - its close enough to Walnut Hills that it should serve as a primary business district for the neighborhood its about a 30 min walk, though with bus or a bike its about 10 mins which isn't too bad. Hopefully the WHRF won't keep diminishing this district's importance through replacement buildings that are too small and too many pocket parks in lieu of what were once very dense mixed use buildings.

A dedicated row is a lot better than running it in the street. Sigh, yet another thing Cranley is pushing for that will hurt transit for the area.

I'm the weirdo who bucks that trend. I'm still uneasy about using Uber due to some of their more shady practices. Worried that if they become a monopoly it will be junk service too.

I don't see any room for rail in this mock up.
  12. Urbancincy has more on the development in Northside: http://www.urbancincy.com/2015/01/great-traditions-d-has-architecture-planning-high-end-townhomes-for-northside/
  13. Yeah I think this isn't a bad solution to give the area a bit more vibrancy and connect it a little stronger to Cincinati's riverfront - though part of the row should be preserved for Bicycles - its really the best bridge across the Ohio for bikes.
  14. Disgusting that this has been allowed to fester for so long. Something is seriously broken here. Make sure to tweet or mail Santa Ono on this one.
  15. Yeah, I don't want to see another empty field like the travesty that happened up in uptown for 10 years where USquare is >:(
  16. I saw that house last time I was in OTR, I was pretty impressed too. The only thing I'd change is put the entrance in the front, as the side entrance hurts further re-development of a streetwall. All and all super nice, the interior really reminds me of nice new build condos in Chicago. Between this and the new project for Republic street - Huber seems to get it. Maybe in a few years I'll stay at the airbnb there if all goes as planned ;)
  17. I agree this area should be much more retailed than it is. I hope eventually it winds up being something like the area around Union Square in San Francisco which has about the same level of historic architecture though on a much bigger scale. That's just a dream though - one of all too many fantastic pedestrian districts in Cincinnati that are completely and utterly underutilized... Though I am very happy that at least East Walnut Hills (DeSalles Corner) finally has some activity these days that was another such district that made me scratch my head as to why it wasn't more popular... Time will tell what happens on 4th street.
  18. Its a life saver in this kind of weather - a lot of times I've ducked into stores or subways while waiting for my bus - it enables this kind of behavior.
  19. They are taking the path of least resistance. City officials should be a lot more creative in selling this asset - too many people from outside the city that can afford to do rehabs should be incentivized to go there. Ok a few buildings will be lost, but really this is overall terrible policy for Cincinnati given its current trajectory.
  20. There should be more stabilization though. I feel its only a matter of time until the closer in areas of Price Hill will be restored. There is an untapped asset value here. Its a good long term investment.
  21. I can't beleive the guy who wrote this is the person who pretty much decides what gets demolished in Cincinnati: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/readers/2015/01/05/demolitions-help-price-hill-home-values/21288775/ So myopic its absolute nonsense. Has he ever traveled anywhere?
  22. Saw a few friends comment on this on Facebook - five new homes in Northside at the corner of Fergus and Lingo. City still needs to approve a varience for it to work (which I hope they do) as these buildings are fantastic infill for the area: https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/10429234_750393788377341_7326486565832084058_n.jpg?oh=10252cbdf1f30e8024534054fdb7f12e&oe=553C52C4&__gda__=1429332654_9657de3d0b1953e848f3f06193de61d9

I saw that and suggested it to my parents who hate the traffic jams there - I hope more deals like this are cut.
  24. One more improvement to Cincy area transit: http://www.urbancincy.com/2014/12/new-payment-technology-allows-metro-tank-to-partner-on-regional-fare-card/ Hopefully the next one is bus tracker software.
