Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
neilworms replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI believe it, I grew up next to one. One thing they had at least when I was a kid was an arcade, and they also have a bar (I guess they were a barcade before it was cool to be one), it was a big draw for people in South Suburban Dayton... Lots of people held parties there too as it was a large space.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
neilworms replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationThere is a new facebook page highlighting the ongoing destruction of Coryville, its a sad sad read as even more elegant old townhouses are getting torn down for what probably are even more vinyl monstrosities: https://www.facebook.com/Vanishingcorryville Those buildings on taft were interesting, but in Cincinnati NOTHING is sacred.

Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
^-I always felt that was one of the most interesting areas in Cincinnati. I really like the views over the bridge on Victory as you are coming down towards Eden Park - the park itself is super nice too. Glad to see the brewery going forward, though I'm kind of frustrated that it may have been ready by now if not for pointless political muddling around...

Hmmm here we go again: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2014/09/09/eden-park-brewery-back-on-track.html At least its back on track, after like being delayed a few months at least.... typical.

Awesome, I'd previously been carrying change with me for such transfers no need to now :)

They just need to fix the uptown stations a bit, there needs to be more stations in CUF and at least a station or two on Highland or Burnett and at least one on Campus. In fact originally there was going to be one on Burnett at University.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
Why? This is an important conversation that the city should have. Move to a separate topic since I know the on topic police get annoyed when a conversation gets even slightly off topic

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
I went to one of the few areas in the country that's heavily German and wears its German-ness on its sleeves: Green County Wisconsin (where New Glarus Brewery is located), and the only reason why it does is due to it practically going out of its way to emphasize that its Swiss German and not German German (as in WWI beware the Huns German). While there I was blown away, some of it was chintzy but tourism needs a little bit of that, a trumped up unreality to make it work. I kept thinking about how Cincinnati could do the same but on a much much larger scale, OTR should be fertile ground for that to the point where I think dual street names should be good as well as hip updated versions of German concepts in its bars/restaurants. Lincoln Square in Chicago is another great example, and I think its German-ness is largely due to the fact that Germans immigrated there after WWII and it was a German neighborhood well into the 1970s. No Germans really exist there but there are a lot of cultural institutions of the sort that should be prominent in Cincinnati given its heritiage like the Dank Haus as well as a few really great German bars and the Chicago Brauhaus. Still - the neighborhood goes out of its way to shout to people who live in Chicago that this is the European/German themed neighborhood. Nonetheless I think I big theme here is Cincinnati should own its heritage and wear it as a proud badge of honor. It frankly doesn't or it does in ways that aren't approachable or accessible to outsiders. This is a big change that has to happen IMO for Cincy to really take advantage of the assets it has and develop a sense of pride in said assets that it desperately needs in order to keep the city from devolving into a hillier Indianapolis. Btw, I was overjoyed when I found out that the Germania building after 100 years removed the stones that were covering its original German inscription that's the sort of thing I'd love to see more of.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
Nice to see the transit option featured so prominently. Combined with no mention of hiring a cab or renting a car. Particularly given the nature of the event. Transit advocates should make arguments about how its a great tool for preventing drunk driving I don't think they do that enough. Now CVG just needs more low costs options.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
UC kicked them off their land last minute. Metro got a phone call a few days ago asking if Redbike can use the Uptown Transit District stations. Not sure if that deal will pan out though. We'll just have to see. Why did UC do this? Someone should complain to Santa Ono, particularly if they are a student. He usually responds on twitter.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
I don't think there was a debate, it just kind of quietly went through. First I heard about it was when Urbancincy described an artworks program for Bus Shelters. And yeah the stupid benches are still all over the place last time I was in town (but there aren't any revenue generating ads for cash strapped SORTA) way to go guys!

Doesn't UC have its own student/faculity/staff only bikeshare?

The website for redbike is now up: Rates are shown as $8/day and $80/year - I wonder if the high end rates have to do with lack of advertising (thank you Bortz/last council for your boneheaded legislation banning adverts on ROWs). http://www.cincyredbike.org/locations/ I like the downtown/OTR locations, but Uptown needs some work - there should be a few on Highland.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
-Rant I needed to get off my chest edited out because its unnecessary- I spend about 100/year to have a car in Chicago btw, the Business Courier is forgetting that Chicagoans pay a 75/year (higher for SUVs and light trucks) city sticker on top of any residential permits they may need to purchase.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Its disappointing after visiting just about anywhere. Even mediocre midrises like these in Chicago look somewhat better: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.886816,-87.642724,3a,49.5y,47.73h,106.92t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s4j2l_9fs7fhe8ioEQ3-D1g!2e0

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
Couldn't think of a place to put this but: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2014/09/02/baldwin-building-conversion/14972357/ The old Baldwin Piano building is going to be partially converted into apartments. The building is a touch isolated but pretty close to everything - its a nice location. Quick bus ride to downtown/otr and walk to Mt Adams too.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^-I was talking about the 1990s renderings not anything related to what was built. See: http://www.hamilton-co.org/hc/banksrfq/images/banks5.jpg
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I think the big problem here is we were all sold on a rendering that was ridiculously well designed, made the banks look like an actual historic urban neighborhood. Unfortunately said rendering was just a basic concept and had no bearing on reality (probably was used in part to sell the stadium on the riverfront instead of at Broadway Commons) As a result people are hyper critical and really disappointed.
