Cincinnati: OTR: Gateway Condos/Kroger Garage
That is the problem with Cincy - we will take anything if it isnt a parking lot. Problem is - 15 years from now we will regret it.

Cincinnati: OTR: Gateway Condos/Kroger Garage
That is a piece of shit. Here is the reason. The economics are almost impossible downtown - so anything that is going to be built is going to be shit. Just look at everything that has been done in the last 15 years. JUNK

I hope it looks better than that 6th & Race/Walgreens building. That is a mess. How about the red brick bottom with the tan brick top. Just a flat wall all the way across. Huge disappointment.

That is among the most disgusting things I have ever seen. What a disgrace.

City Nicknames
I have heard Cincinnati called the QC -- short for the Queen City. I have heard it called the "Queen" too. Of course, Cincinasti, Censornatti, CinciNazi, Rhineland, and many others. And by the way, what do you call a pretty girl in Cleveland? A tourist! I heard that from a Clevelander too. One good thing about being close to KY - Cincy has hot girls within reach. Poor Cleveland. Where are you going to go for hot girls - Erie, Akron, PA, MI?? Oh my.

Warren County growth
Dont get me started. Warren County is a joke. It used to be nice. No planning. No laws. It is a joke.

Norwood: Development and News
The whole thing is ridonculous. Those homes aren't blighted at all. Make the developer pay market rate if he must have this location. Norwood is certainly guilty of pandering to the developer. Rookwood Commons could have been soooo much better. It is the biggest waste of space anywhere. Have they ever heard of parking garages? They could have fit Rookwood Exchange on the property of Rookwood Commons if it were designed properly. In fact, people could be buying silverware at Crate & Barrel as we speak if he would have done it right - instead nothing but bitter people made so by a huge eminent domain fight. Man o man!

Further drain of downtown - I hope the next office building isnt simply a clone of the first out there.

Forest Park: Forest Fair Mall / Cincinnati Mills Redevelopment
I haven't been to this one but I have been to Potomac Mills in Northern Virginia and Anne Arundel Mills in Maryland and both are very nice. I like the neighborhood approach. It is going to take a while for it to catch on in Cincy. People need to go to it to understand how it is different from Tri-County or Florence. It should do really well here. Mills usually does its homework.

Have they learned nothing. This is what happens when visions of dollar signs go dancing through people's heads...

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Ronnie, I appreciate your reply. While I would love to see something built there, I am not sure this is the right design, mass, or time for the project. What it could do is get 5/3 off its ass to exercise its air rights over Fountain Place and build the 25 story building it has proposed. If that happens the market will be way over built and buildings will be empty thus creating another decade long drought of building. I would rather see several medium sized infill projects than one huge buliding creating too much space. There is a lot of need for infill downtown. By the way, I love the reference to Robbie the Robot. By the way, the Enquirer Building was supposed to be two phases. Only one got built because of a lack of market demand. I fear the same for the current two phase project.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I must comment on this thing. First of all, it is never going to happen. Why? Because they will build the smaller one first and it will sit empty for years or further create vacancies in other buildings in downtown. Then the developer will have no incentive to go ahead with the taller building. What should have happened here in my opinion: Convergys should have located to Queen City Square instead of recycled space at the Atrium buildings. QCSquare will never be built unless a large corporation decides to locate their corporate headquarters there. It also will never be built unless vacancy rates downtown drop significantly. I will say, however, I think new development forces other building owners to upgrade their buildings. Competition is a good thing. Again, my prediction: No tall Queen City Square building this decade. And furthermore, it is the ugliest most dated looking building of late. It has no context with that end of town and looks ridiculously out of place. In fact, I would argue that it harms the skyline.

I agree in part with Montecarloss. If we are going to have a city smack dab in the middle of our city at least make it a nice one. Norwood has historically been a manufacturing center - think GM plant. Now it is transforming into a retail and office center. While new-to-market retail is exciting and important, and while I agree that it is better placed in Norwood than West Chester, I am still frustrated by the thousands of square feet of Class A and B space downtown that sits empty while new space is being constructed. As for working in a suburban hell like that and having to drive to PF Chang's for lunch - I say hell no! Downtown is the only place to be in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more about the lifestyle center discussion. It is good to be here at UrbanOhio. I didn't know there were so many other people that like the same things I do... I look forward to much spirited discussion in the future.

Borrrrrring! Dreadful suburban architecture. No creativity. Just four walls and some drop ceiling. Tip: If you are going to build something on a high profile site, build something that future generations will enjoy - not pay to tear down. The downtown drain continues.

It was replaced because the City had contracted with Nordstrom to build a new department store. After 9/11 Nordstrom reigned in its expansion and cancelled both the downtown location and the Deerfield location (NE suburbs). Now there is a giant empty hole. Western/Southern, the same group that is building Queen City Square applied for a building permit to start construction on a new lifestyle center for downtown. They shopped it around at the ICSC convention in Las Vegas. The project generated little interest but Western/Southern blames the 3CDC for holding up the project. Face it, there are no tenants. Also, Western/Southern is supposed to be building pads into the project to support office towers in the future.
