Excellent write up, I am enjoying seeing Cleveland through the eyes of a visitor. Your comments seam right on target. One bit of information to add, at the cemetery, there is a large obelisk (I think that is what you call it.) which marks the grave of John D. Rockefeller. The ashes of Elliott Ness were spread onto one of the ponds and there is a commemorative plaque.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but how does the crane operator get up into the control cab? I can't imagine the operator climbs all the way up. :wtf:

Now that I read my previous post again, I apologize for the negative tone. All I intended to say was that the glass siding will be a nice change from the more common stone facades we see downtown.

I just took a walk over to Progressive Field to see the progress on the "containers" in right field. They are currently putting what appears to be a wallpaper type of cover so that the middle row of "containers" will be green. As much as I hate this look, the green may help to mitigate this disaster. If only they had installed glass or metal bar fencing around the top of the "containers" instead of the solid wall, it would have been so much more appealing. In time I guess I will get used to it. Fortunately, my seats are in the lower section of right field so I will not be able to see the "containers" above me. I pity the folks on the third base side. They will have to look at the "containers" for the entire game. :|

Is there any possibility that this is temporary and after baseball season, they will go back and finish. The steel siding and railings can be easily removed next year. I just can't believe the city planning commission approved this. It is so different from the approved design renderings. :-(

Don't forget there is the Grand Arcade (with 100+ units), Pinnacle (New construction), the Coat Factory, Water Street, and several condos on West 9th, all in the Warehouse District. The Point in Gateway and The Park on Public Square are also condos. There is a demand.

Is anyone else concerned about how all of this work will be completed by Opening Day. Looking at those pictures, it seems very optimistic to think this will be completed in time. Opening Day is in about 6 weeks.

Regarding the traffic at Prospect and East 9th, you can see that every day at rush hour.

No, the Colonial and Euclid Arcades are now the 5th Street Arcade.

The Grand Arcade is a condominium building in the Warehouse District. I think the Arcade spanning Euclid Ave. and Superior Ave. is called The Old Arcade.

I saw the video and it looks like kids from the suburbs. As a downtown resident, I could easily do without the drunken suburbanites that come downtown only to get drunk. Every Friday and Saturday morning, I have to walk by trash thrown on the sidewalks and planters used for all unspeakable purposes. I noticed today on my way to the Indians, that a front window at Panini's was broken. I understand that the restaurant and bar owners need these idiots, but as a resident I wish they would stay in their home cities and trash them.

So some of us agree that the issue is the use of Public Square rather than the design. We have protested the demolition of historic buildings, but the historic design of Public Square seems to be fair game. When I lived in downtown Chicago, I noticed the lack of a public square.

PaulI, was the square 4 quadrants back then? I am having trouble seeing how today's square is that different. I am not trying to be argumentative, but I don't see a big difference between then and now except for the buildings around the square. I will show my hand in this discussion. I am the only person living downtown that actually likes Public Square. I agree we should utilize it in a more productive way, but I like it. Having said all that, I don't dislike the current design proposals, but I would focus my energy on developing the bordering surface parking lot. I hate the parking lot!!!

Now there is little wind and a drizzle of rain. Life on the Lake is not for everyone. Most people visit a beach when the weather is nice and it is like visiting a beach on the ocean down south. Lake Erie is different and we need to appreciate and enjoy the differences, but we have to understand the Lake to make wise decisions regarding lakefront development.

It is 7:18pm Tuesday evening. I am at our cottage on Lake Erie. Our cottage is 30 or 50 feet from the water. 15 minutes ago we had our windows open and were sitting on our deck. Now the wind is so strong our chairs have blown off our deck and the tables are over turned. The winds have to be 40+. Of course we have closed our windows and moved inside. It is an incredible storm and at times kind of frightening. This is life on the Lake. We continually talk about developing the lake front and compare with cities like Chicago and Toronto, but we are the only major city with a northern unobstructed shoreline in America (the world?). If we were a restaurant, we would have to pay for everyone meals and hope they come back again. There is a reason that very few restaurants are located on the Lake Erie shore line. We should look to see what other cities with unobstructed northern shorelines have done.

We finally got our street lights back on the north side of St. Clair between W. 3rd and W. 6th. They look great.

I get very frustrated when I hear people like FlyovermeDC1988 talk about Cleveland with the conviction of one who knows, when in reality they are clueless about Cleveland. I get this a lot from people who hide in the suburbs. It is particularly annoying when I am traveling and run into someone from Cleveland who left years ago like FlyovermeDC1988. Some of them continually talk trash to their friends, perpetuating the negative stereotypes with no basis in fact.

I would have liked to see more shots of the lake. Perhaps the closing shot of Cleveland could have captured a view of the lake. The video makes Cleveland look land locked like Columbus. Other than that, I like the video.

I remember going to Toronto in the 60s with my mom and dad and my mother was freaking out. We decided to go beyond Niagara Falls and stay in Toronto. I was very young then so my memory is not perfect, but we ended up driving back to Niagara Falls. Toronto was not a great place back then. From everything I hear now, it is fantastic.

When I first read DM4's post I disregarded it. But I have second thoughts. I think there would be an incredible demand to live in the Terminal Tower. If I could afford it, I would sell my current place and move there immediately!
