Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
Would anyone else care to share any more dentist recommendations?

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
This post isn't for a unique or "local" restaurant. But personally, I am a big fan of Chipotle. So, by chance, as I was driving around the Steelyard Commons, I saw a new building being built. I drove by, and as I got closer, saw a Chipotle chili logo on it to my surprise! I've been looking all over for one nearby, and haven't been lucky. Later that day, I was in Independence, and was eating at the Chipotle on Rockside Rd. I asked if they had any idea when the new one would open, and one employee said "within 2 months".

Dave's it is then. Sounds like an all around consensus there. MyTwoSense - As far as the reference and transfer of records, that should not be a problem. However, since I'm not too happy with the previous dentist's work, I'd rather not have him steer me to someone else. Would you recommend your dentist?

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
Update, and more advice/recommendations requested. I was about to start a new thread, but wasn't sure what category to put it in. So, I'm using the old standby. So far, so good. I'm enjoying my early stay around Cleveland. I don't know where much anything is, so I find myself driving around a lot, until I find whatever it is I'm looking for. I've been to downtown a handful of times, but it looks like a mess. Construction, horrible traffic, no parking, etc., etc. While it'd be great to live there, I'm extremely happy I don't. All the little things that get on my nerves would get to me! I've been around Tremont a lot. I've visited University Inn, Southside, La Bodega, and Luckys, and I've barely scratched the surface of what's out there. I hope to take in a few more restaurants and bars this week since I have some more free time. And on another note, besides the Westside market, where is a general, good quality, all purpose grocery store? Where I'm from, those stores were called Dillon's, Kroger, or Hy-Vee. However, I have yet to see anything around where I live. Finally, on to more serious matters. Can anyone recommend a good dentist (and/or endontist)? One that takes time to explain what's going on, does a meticulously good job with good bedside/chairside manner, and is also well skilled? Long story short, I received some questionable dental work before I moved here, and now, I'm literally in pain paying for it. So, after some serious research and talking to a recent dental school grad, it looks like I'm going to need someone to repair the problems (i.e. cavity => root canal => crown). If anyone can help, please post or private message me. Thanks again!

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
And the winning rental property is..... one of the English Garden apartments in the basement of a Tremont Ridge home! The landlord and I agreed on a price in the very low $600/month range. As of right now, I'm very happy with my decision. I literally drove down every road in Tremont until I got a feel for the neighborhood, and a sense of direction of where I was. Being steps away and only a few blocks from 7th and Professor where all the activity happens is really exciting. Plus, I'm only a short walk and about 1-2 miles from Jacobs Field and East 4th. Of course, I doubt I'll be walking this stretch, as I'm sure cab fare can't be more than a handful of dollars. I'm really looking forward to moving to Cleveland, and seeing what it has to offer. My official moving date is planned for the middle of June. Once I get there, there are lots of bars and restaurants that I can't wait to go to in Tremont, downtown, Ohio City, and even Chinatown! First drink is on me if you introduce yourself from this website! Finally, everyone, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your help, insight, comments, and information. I'd hate to see what would've happened or where'd I end up had I not discovered this website. Oh yea, and one final thing for any lurkers reading. Last week (Thursday?), I got a call from East 4th management. They had an opening of a 1BR rental property in one of their complexes (I don't know which one) with a rent of $750/month. It may still be available....

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
Greetings everyone! I'm currently in Cleveland, and looking for places to live. I've driven all around Tremont (and Ohio City), and avoided downtown (due to costs, and apartment/complex living). So far, Tremont does have a "sleepy" feel to it. Unless you're around the renovated, gentrified area, Tremont is just like any other neighborhood. Main attractions for me are the close proximity to restaurants, bars, and shops. I've looked at many rentals properties around West 5th to West 7th and Literary, and so far my top choice is an English garden style lower level of a townhouse. As for Ohio City, it's much more commercial and bustling. I have not seen many rental properties at all. Other than places like the Federal Knitting Mills and stuff online, there is very little for rent just driving around. My question concerning Ohio City - where are the happening places (bars, restaurants, ect.)? I can definitely see why people like it, closeness to the RTA, the Westside Market, etc. But, I'm wondering what I would like that I'm missing? Again, thanks for reading!

jonmoxon - I'd kill for an English style garden apartment for only $500/month in Tremont! The few that I am coming across are in the mid to upper 600s. Out of curiousity, why did you move from Tremont to Lakewood?

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
Many more interesting points brought up. But first, an update, and some random thoughts. I'm focusing my search now on Tremont pretty hard. I think that's my top preference. Also, after much deliberation, I will be traveling to Cleveland early next week to view in person open rental properties. While my initial intentions were good, I think doing an apartment search in person will serve me and the landlord better. Concerning Tremont - I've based alot of my search within the map parameters from this post. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=12166.0 Now, I know that some areas of Tremont are better than others. Can anyone give me some areas or cross-streets to avoid due to a seemingly bad neighborhood or increased crime rates? subclavius - Where in western Kansas did you spend time in? jamiec (and everyone, for that matter) - That's a very insightful question (and a thought that has crossed my mind). What area do the attractive members of the opposite sex live, hang out, and frequent? Of course, in reality, there are cute girls in every city! Random thought on WD - Indeed it is very popular. But to me, it seems strange that the top property downtown (Bingham) has so many vacancies. Granted, it looks spectacular and has Constantino's, but perhaps it is a tad (translation: way) overpriced? Maybe they are just relying on the suckers from out of town to rent to, or the people who want to feel special. Come to think of it, I haven't seen one poster on this board from the Bingham, but I could surely be mistaken.....

Man, are you guys on top of things! Yes, it is an English Garden style apartment. The landlord is only responsible for water, sewage, and the alarm system, which is a plus, while I am responsible for the rest. By my guesstimation, I'll be paying about $850-900/month for everything else. (Personally, this was more than I was looking to spend, but I can manage it within my budget. And on top of that, it will be just me, as opposed to having roommates to keep costs down.) Parking is not included, but I've been told there is always plenty of space in front of the building. And the place IS 800 sq. feet (nice call FrqntFlyr!). And another question. How "busy" are the streets? On google maps, I really don't see much traffic, so I'm wondering what the main thoroughfare through Tremont is?

Urbanlife or Mayday (or anyone else who wants to chime in): How would you characterize Tremont vs. downtown? I've already been to some Tremont websites (restoretremont), and would like to garner some opinions. From what I've read, I get the feeling that Tremont is slightly more unique, trendy, and eclectic while downtown, well, has that typical downtown feel with more mainstream, corporate franchises. And while downtown residents may be more young, urban, and professional, what is Tremont's demographic? Also, would you consider $675 for rent in the Literary road/West 6th area for a newer, ground floor, 1 Br apt of a row house to be about average or expensive?

MyTwoSense - Thanks for that interactive map. That's very useful! I didn't meant to ruffle any feathers. Like Murray Hill's sentiments, and from maps (like the one in Downtown Digs), the Theater District is a few city blocks in the downtown area that just seem a tad too far away from everything else for my tastes, that's all.

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
MyTwoSense - Yes, I have looked into those 3 places. However, they are located in the Theater district, I believe, and they are a little farther away than I would like. If I were to live downtown, I literally want to be steps from it. MayDay - Would that also apply to the 700 block on Brayton Street (786, to be exact)?

For some reason, I thought Rocky River was West Lakewood. Looking at the map again, I see it's the next community over. Thanks for the heads up. I'm 28, male. What else would you like to know?

Well, it looks like my E4 lead has fallen through. I was informed that the 1st person who viewed the apartment was chosen. Attempting to complete everything online does have disadvantages, and getting bypassed sucks. UGH. I was really looking forward to E4. Okay, that's enough of a rant. Concerning Tremont, how "safe" are the neighborhoods? In particular, Literary Road between West 6th and West 7th streets? Is it safe, to say, to run/jog alone in the night or early morning hours? Also, earlier there was a post saying I shouldn't live south of Detroit Avenue. Does anyone know if this address is situated in a nice, good neighborhood? 20996 Detroit Rd, Rocky River 44116. Responses much appreciated.

MyTwoSense - Only a little bit, not much in depth yet. I may check that out in the coming days. 3231 clubbing - I will go, but definitely not a preference beer and shot joints - YES! brew pubs - YES! coffee shops - Not so much. Maybe the occasional place to sit, relax, and people watch. sports bars -YES! will you be living with a significant other - None. Just me, myself, and I. how would you describe where you live now and do you like it? - I live near near midtown in an older, quiet neighborhood. Everything is close and within a short 10 min or less drive. do you prefer gritty chicago neighborhoods or newer sunbelt living? - No clue. do you like unique restaurants or are fine with a burger and fries? - Both. Really like 24/7 diners and places open late. My favorite drinking establishments would have to be classified as laid back. Modern/contemporary/stylish retro environment, music that is not too loud to drown out conversation, no bands, no dance floor, and a place that serves good mixed drinks and top shelf (?) alcohol.

X - Agreed, if I didn't care about cost, I'd head to the Bingham. And, I did look at the other affordable complexes you mentioned. However, they just don't seem to be a good fit. Unfortunately, I will not be visiting beforehand. I am taking a calculated risk, and doing everything online, site/sight unseen. And now, after all this discussion, I am beginning to slowly warm to OC. It's not as bad as I had previously thought. My preferences, in order, are downtown (E4 or bust?), nice areas of Tremont, Ohio City, and finally Lakewood. This is going to be a tough decision no matter what. I've got some leads in each part of town. And no matter how much I want to live somewhere, I'm now subject to availability and the decisions of others. I also may have a few other questions as time passes, so if they are posted, please answer them. :-D I'll keep everyone posted where I end up.... if you care..... Much thanks!

Great, great discussion, as this was exactly what I was looking for. KGP et al - I did consider Parma in my initial search. However, after some thought, I favor the hustle and bustle and activity of downtown over the cheaper, more spacious "suburbia" of Parma. I may have to reconsider OC. However, from all my research and reading, it's still in the early stages of development when compared to WD, E4, Tremont, and Lakewood. And yes, I'm not so much a fan of Up and Down units. I really hate not being on the ground floor of house, and so I'd rather live in a complex downtown with nicer amenities if that's the case. I've lived in a single bedroom house these last few years, and while it was decent and fit my needs, I think it's time I found some nicer digs. Finally, much thanks for delineating the good versus bad street boundaries for all the areas in and around Cleveland! I think I'm fixated on living downtown, or at least very near it. That way I can have social activity, while also being only a short commute away from work. Hence, that's why I listed my early preferences. Also, I will have a car, so being near markets and stores isn't a deal breaker for me. I don't mind driving somewhere if it has something I want or need.

Murray Hill - I literally stumbled across E4. I saw an ad on CL about a Frederick building, and was like, what's that? So I did some googling, and found the E4 properties. It definitely caught my eye. I also have a copy of Downtown Digs, and most every rental/lease/buy complex is listed there. I did look at West 6 and West 9, but for a 1 Br, it's a little pricey and more than I would prefer to spend. As for OC, I don't think I would like living on the wrong side of the river. Ideally, I'd prefer to live downtown nearby all the attractions and nightlife. However, if nothing opens up, I may be forced to live farther away (Lakewood, Tremont, etc.).

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
I am relocating from Kansas City. X - Thanks for the great info. About the laundry facilities - are they good sized washers and dryers, or are they the smaller ones that try to milk as many quarters from customers as possible? Also, what type (gender, age, etc.) of tenants live in the Buckeye Building? And finally, if you had to rank places to live downtown, what would be your top 5?

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
Hello everyone. I just discovered this site, and I am sure I will be spending many hours in the next few days reading relevant posts. With that said, I too, will be a new Cleveland resident and will be relocating there in late June. One of the places that I'm looking to live is the Buckeye building on East 4th. Would anyone care to provide any information, advice, pros, cons, etc. concerning this place? Other places I have looked at and considered are Dowtown/Warehouse District, Lakewood, and Tremont. I'm sure I'll have a narrower list as I read all the posts about relocating. But, if you have anything to add that may not have been said, do tell. Some important, relevant info. I would like to live in a young, populous area, where there is a lot of activity. My price range per month for rent (1Br) + parking + utilities is $750-850 or less. I would like to have secured parking [not in the sense of safety, but rather a spot that is mine (e.g. driveway, garage, etc.)], and a washer and dryer. Although, if I live in a complex, I may have to settle for "laundry facilities" (ughhh). I'd also like a newer/nicer place, that has central heat and air, as I'm not a fan of older buildings, unless they have been remodeled. I will be working at Metrohealth, and would prefer a relatively short commute. Thanks for reading!
