Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
Not sure I agree with this one...Boycott Eaton? What are you going to do? Trade in your truck's clutch or differential for another one? :-P Good luck with that. At least they are still in NEO...there are plenty of companies to truly boycott for taking their headquarters out of the region altogether....let's see....Office Max (now Chicago), CVS (was Revco now in RI), Pearle Vision (now Luxottica in Cincy), Firestone (Nashville), British Petroleum (Chicago)...the list goes on and on and on. Save your venom for them.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
Being a current paying member of Shedd Aquarium here in Chicago, I think an appropriately scaled facility could be a solid draw for Cleveland. I favor a water-centric location close to the CBD...much like that of Shedd. BTW...the Cleveland folks have updated their web site a bit...check it out at www.clevelandaquarium.org

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Don't you mean "Ah, t. hanks?" Sorry...couldn't resist the pun. Two thumbs up for Mr. Hanks...good to see the enthusiasm around this project. Now, what about Paul Newman...any Cleveland love from him? My guess here is 'no' judging from the fact you don't hear much about him or see him doing much in C-Town...other than racing his car at the Grand Prix. 8-)

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I did answer your question...keep more of the money in Cleveland than by giving (some of) it to a corporation that's not based here... It's not like they are the only pizza in town. BTW...I actually like your game plan for Papa John's to rectify this issue locally. You should send it to PJ's PR dept.

http://www.boycottpapajohns.com/ BTW...this is not my site, but I do think it's deserved. Just think about the power of the Internet and how a shirt like this would not have gotten second notice in years past. Pretty neat. Go CAVS!

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
If your boycott do go forward, what are you plans for helping those local business owners and the local employees that will most likely lose their jobs?? I can't wait to hear your response. Here's my response... No grand scheme here, no over the top plot to take down Papa John's...but the point is: There are other pizza options in Cleveland that are better than PJ's. Why spend your money at a place where Louisville, KY gets your coin (a portion of it at least) instead of frequenting a truly locally owned joint? Go CAVS!

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/05/papa_johns_crybaby_tshirts_aim.html I'm sure some of you did a double take on Friday night, as I did...when I paused my DVR on some dopey fan in DC wearing one of these shirts...I was incredibly surprised to see a Papa John's logo on it. I can understand that this was some franchisee doing the dirty work, not a corporate decision on PJ's part. Stupid anyway...first, how much control does PJ's have over its franchisees? I think we know the answer to that. Secondly...there is much better pizza in C-Town than this crap. For this reason...you might as well enjoy a true local pizza! GO CAVS! http://www.boycottpapajohns.com/

Akron-Canton: General Business & Economic News
They must be doing something right...as Costco in Chicago has a whole display of their chips. Good news, indeed!

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
I think this was proposed in the early stages of the project...when Campbell was Cleveland's mayor. ..but obviously it died a quick death. As was discussed earlier, an MLS stadium located in a downtown would be truly unique to the league...as cities like Columbus and Chicago have their facilities in mundane locales.

Still more 80's Cleveland
I think Globe Iron was in the Flats...it burned down one night in 1994...if I remember correctly. I was at Metropolis that night and came outside to watch the fire, along with about 250 other people. What an AWESOME building...as my dad had a warehouse close to it at Center and Winslow. More info from PD archives...of course you can actually buy the article if you like. HOMELESS MAY HAVE STARTED BLAZE IN FLATS WAREHOUSE RESERVE TERMINALS BUILDING DATED TO SHIPBUILDING HEYDAY [FINAL / ALL Edition] The Plain Dealer - Cleveland, Ohio Author: DOUGLAS MONTERO PLAIN DEALER REPORTER Date: Nov 27, 1994 Start Page: 10.B Section: METRO Text Word Count: 622 Abstract (Document Summary) Burning debris landed on and damaged at least seven cars parked near the warehouse. Overall damage was estimated at more than $500,000, Fire Department Spokesman Jonathan Parries said. The fire began inside the northeast section of the building on Elm St. and quickly consumed the roof, weakened the walls and sent about three stories of bricks and wood onto the sidewalks, Battalion Chief Paul Marks and Parries said. "A preliminary investigation indicates the fire may have been started by Cleveland's homeless trying to stay warm," Parries said. "With the change in the weather, we might end up seeing more of these types of fires in abandoned buildings."

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
Here's the latest from the News-Leader....looks like Macedonia is pretty much out of the picture for the time being...wonder if one of the other spots referenced here is near downtown Cleveland? Would be nice. http://www.the-news-leader.com/news/article/3447602

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
I appreciate the spirited discussion on this board...if you are so inclined, you can also join in at bigsoccer.com...there is a special forum for any/all discussion on Cleveland MLS expansion. All are welcome...the more 'noise' the better - IMO. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1121

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
Ideally, the team could play at UA's new digs...but it won't happen. This complex needs to be closer to Cleveland than to Akron, and Macedonia is pretty much equidistant...on a similar note, Philly gets a team...see link below. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=512016&cc=5901

Chillicothe, Ohio: Seat of Ross County
Sadly I have never been here...it looks really cool. That Majestic street sign reminds me of the Bun Restaurant sign in downtown Delaware, OH...I think signage like that is unique and cool... Nice work on this thread, BTW. Anyway, what is the scoop on the Carlisle (burned) building...what was it, what is it, and what are the plans for it...if any?

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
Downtown would be my first choice, and those familiar with this saga remember that a while ago Bert Wolstein - now of course deceased - proposed this to the city of Cleveland and was basically shown the door...which is too bad because NONE of the current crop of US-based MLS stadia, including Crew Stadium, Toyota Park (Chicago) and the new ones on the drawing board are in a true urban area, like a downtown...Cleveland could have been on the cutting edge with this one. Fast forward to the present and Wolstein's son Scott, and their mega-billion dollar company - Developers Diversified - are pushing for Macedonia partially because of its central location and partially because they already own a big chunk of the land there. To them, one advantage to having a complex like this in the suburbs would be the 20+ additional soccer fields that would be used on a weekly basis during the spring/summer/fall for large traveling (and local) tournaments. That cannot happen at the corner of E22 and Chester...or anywhere downtown.

Akron: Bridgestone Firestone Technical Center
It would be really ballsy - and cool - if Akron and the OH powers that be went after TN with all guns a blazin'....and not only got this tech center to stay...but also got the ENTIRE HQ to come back where it belongs and abandon Nashville. I say show them the incentives. Like good old Daniel Burnham said..."make no small plans."

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
On the contrary, I think the "leaders" that are present in the area need to shake things up...and this is something that is unique to only 16 or so cities in the US right now... I'm not saying that MLS will save the region, or even become as popular as the NFL or MLB anytime soon, but I am saying that a well executed MLS-related development would be another feather in the cap of what already is a great place to live - and in my case, grow up. How it gets lost on everyone here is well beyond me. BTW...why not go after biotech, urban housing, AND projects like this? I think the region is very capable of handling all of this.

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
Well...this thing is back in the news again. Let me get two things off my chest...First, I LOVE NEO and a lot of times wish I still lived there. Secondly, I am a big sports fan and like soccer quite a bit. Say what you will about soccer, or publicly-funded stadiums, or too much retail, or suburban sprawl, or whatever, the point here is that other metro areas are adding to their arsenal of attractions...and their abilities to attract residents, new businesses, media coverage, etc. Once again NEO is going to be left behind. Seattle already has been awarded an expansion MLS team...and it looks like Philadelphia and/or St. Louis is getting one, thanks to a more progressive state government and some interest from the locals instead of the bickering that is taking place in Macedonia. I concur with previous posts that this would be VERY cool to have in downtown Cleveland in conjunction with CSU but I doubt that will ever happen either. Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Here's my three cents...for whatever its worth. I've always hated this building. I don't care who designed it, it makes buildings in East Berlin look good...and that's the reality of it. On one of Cleveland's many grey-colored days, this thing was definitely depressing. Plus, the height of it was nothing to write home about. Also, do we really know what is going to be put in its place? I don't remember seeing a final plan, just some pretty cool looking proposals...if someone could point me to that news I would appreciate it. With all of this being said, I agree that there are WAY too many parking lots in my beloved hometown...why not build on one of those? BTW...wouldn't the rotunda make a cool Apple store? I can see the folks of the Cleve lining up now on the steps for the new iPhone! Somebody call Steve Jobs and offer him rent for $25/month if he would put a flagship store there.

Upper Sandusky, Ohio: Seat of Wyandot County
Really? What is so distinctive about this town? The CH is OK, but the rest of the streetscapes look the EXACT same as most cities in OH that are the same size.

Gloomy Uptown Oxford
Ahhh...as an MU grad and a proud alum, I enjoyed uptown Oxford while a student, but after moving to Columbus and living in German Village, I began to appreciate older architecture and began to investigate some of the towns around the Columbus area...including Athens, Gambier and Granville. I hate to say it, but all three of these towns blow Oxford away in the charm department, with Athens being a solid first. To me, Athens feels like a ski town from CO or UT. Granville exudes a bit more class, partly because it is smaller, and Gambier has a certain charm. All of these are better than Oxford. But, when it comes to comparing the actual campus, I'll take Miami any day. I've seen bigger high schools than Denison and Kenyon - combined - and OU's campus is not as classy as MU's. So there it is. Pair MU's campus with a combo of Athens, Granville and Gambier, and you have the perfect collegiate atmosphere.
