Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Interesting. That's the section that the city once contended was in danger of collapsing. Glad to hear there's a brighter future ahead, ya know, vs. it collapsing. I ate at a Five Guys in suburban Chicago (Vernon Hills) about three weeks ago. I liked the burger enough...but it made me LOL reading the newspaper articles on the wall from cities around the US where this place was voted BEST BURGER in that metro market...made me think how bad the other burgers must be if FG was voted the best.

Cleveland Monsters Discussion
Yeah, Columbus has struggled at the gate for the past few years. To be fair, the product has obviously been poor. I'm not sure what to think...I don't know if the NHL will ever make its way back to the shores of Lake Erie. I just know that CLE is a very solid market for hockey, certainly better than most southern cities.

Cleveland Monsters Discussion
I think CLE/NEO is a great untapped market for pro hockey. Plenty of built in rivalries like Chicago, Toronto, Buffalo, Columbus, Detroit and of course - Pittsburgh! The team would have to be owned in some form by Dan Gilbert, though.

This group seems to want CLE to have the NHL and has started a Twitter account....I might start following them. @NHLinCLE

Cleveland: Hotel Development
That 80% seems pretty high...isn't occupancy in most Midwest cities in the low 60% range as a norm? I would think last October would have been in the 60% range...and an occupancy rate of 80% in October 2012 would be a 33% increase over 60%..... I hope I'm wrong, though!

Cleveland - A Walk About - Clifton and W117th
Boy I hope that church survives...knowing the track record of some of the latest demolitions I don't hold out much hope though. Anyone with an extra $1.5 million on this board?

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Thanks! Hopefully we all can move on and get a nice HQ built at that site, with a first-class renovation of the tower and rotunda!

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Speaking of LeBron, coincidentally, I just "discovered" this very memo written to the citizens of Cuyahoga County: Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cuyahoga County Supporters Wherever You May Be Today; As you now know, our county, is no longer a considering Optima's Huntington Building for their HQ. This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of the County and probably the history of every county in the United States, or world for that matter. Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us. The good news is that Optima and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown (if you live in Miami) development company have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you. There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you. You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal. In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you today: "I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT CUYAHOGA COUNTY WILL GET A WORLD-CLASS HQ BEFORE ANY OTHER COUNTY IN THE UNIVERSE GETS ONE." You can take it to the bank. If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the best possible HQ plan to Cuyahoga County and Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels. Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there. Sorry, but that's simply not how it works. Sleep well, Cuyahoga County. Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day.... I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only: DELIVERING YOU the HQ you have long deserved and is long overdue.... Signed, Chaim Schochet Optima

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
It's kind of like the Cavs waiting on LeBron to solve all of their ills. He may - or may not - choose to return home. I hope Optima didn't buy this building - and let's face it they got it on the cheap - for just one potential tenant (the county). Should be interesting to see Plan B or C.

I'll add my personal opinion - I'm not a fan of Optima, for what it's worth. That being said, here's the latest news from Crain's Cleveland Business. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20130121/FREE/130129969

Thanks for clarifying. I guess it wasn't the Clinic...I do remember the CMA part of it, though.

I think it said the Cleveland Museum of Art and of course, a certain clinic that is located in Cleveland. :-)

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Can't get this link to work...but it promises to be an interesting story! Was listed as a headline on Cleveland.com earlier today but now is gone...found it again when I searched the site for 'Litt' in the past 24 hrs. Can't get it to work though. Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer. In a deal with big implications for the future of University Circle, the Cleveland Institute of Art is selling its valuable, 4.1-acre ... http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2013/01/the_cleveland_institute_of_art_1.html

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I think the sentiment against LeBron will continue to dissipate as the days go by...as has been proven over the last 2.5 years. I would welcome him back...I think it would be a cool story as well.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Looks like this is the "news" story. Not much new...but sobering to say the least. On a side note, I find it hard to believe that Pittsburgh could not retain a hub with all of their strong Fortune 500 companies AND the fact that there is no competition, unlike Akron/Canton is for CLE. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/money/consumer/consumer_specialist/cincinnatis-airport-saw-a-drastic-reduction-in-flights-after-delta-merged-with-northwest

Nashville's Gigantic New $623 Million Convention Center
Cool building. Surprised there was no mention of their failed attempt at a medical trade center.

Cleveland - taking Chagrin (Blvd) to Chagrin (Falls)
As a Cleveland native, I am biased...but no suburb in Chicago can match the charm of Chagrin Falls! Of course, the geography makes a big difference in this case. The hills make Chagrin Falls feel (kind of) like a ski town from the west.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Is there any new info here? It looks like a lot of this is from May of 2012 or earlier. I did some searching on the Internet and didn't see any new news from the usual media outlets that have been covering this. The latest information on NashVegas' med mart, is from September, but I'm not posting since this thread is about the CLEVELAND medical mart. True but I've posted updates regarding the Nashville MM on this thread before. I think it's important to keep an eye on it as it would - or it will - compete with Cleveland's.
