  1. Awesome! Also, while not as glamorous as the Chicago plan above, here's the latest from the Motor City on Belle Isle. http://www.freep.com/article/20120912/NEWS01/120912033/belle-isle-state-park-snyder-bing?odyssey=obinsite
  2. You bring up some great points about the demographics of the North Shore. We are in process from moving from Evanston to Highland Park and were dismayed by all of the empty storefronts in Renaissance Place. Still a great little downtown, though. Anyway, I brought this up just to reiterate that Saks is really looking at individual store performance, especially for stand-alone (non mall) locations. Hopefully Cincy will keep bringing it strong.
  3. Not sure where to put this post but Saks Fifth Avenue just announced it was closing its Highland Park, IL store...super wealthy suburb (by other Chicago suburbs like Lake Forest and Wilmette/Winnetka.) Hope the same fate doesn't await Cincy....but it definitely seems like Saks is taking a close look at all of its properties....and this was the last one I expected to see close.
  4. Very nice. Great new views and great vistas. Makes Cleveland look like the major-league city that it is.
  5. Wow the transformer project looks cool. I like the addition so far!
  6. Please pick one of the many beautiful, unused warehouse/factory buildings that our fair city has to offer, as long as it's not too full of hazardous materials...which would kill the affordable space concept.
  7. I always wanted an Apple Store in there...I do think the building would lend itself to some awesome retail...if it is the right brand, of course.
  8. Now THAT'S clever!! You could say it puts the CLEVE in CLEVEr.
  9. Horrible news. Thoughts go out to the family... On a side note, did you see they had 61,000 fans in Seattle for the Sounders/Galaxy game? By far the best market in MLS...what a success story that team has been at the gate...outdrawing markets that are much bigger on a consistent basis.
  10. The chat is funny! On Cleveland.com now...it's really getting roasted.
  11. It also looks like crap on the iPad. The headlines are way too big and bold...and the name CLEVELAND.COM is hardly visible. I realize that it is free and let's be frank, it's a really good source of CLE news for us out-of-towners...but it certainly doesn't do CLE any favors when someone that is not from there reads it. I actually really like the look of the printed PLAIN DEALER...my parents still get it every day and I enjoy reading it when I visit them...but the online version never translated well.
  12. +1 It is an embarrassing way to portray CLE and NEO. My biggest beef is that there are other sites around the country that share the exact same format...related to the parent company, Advance Media. I KNEW that once you clicked on the (too bold too big) main page headlines that it would take you to an article in the OLD format (OLD font, etc.)...why just change the home page??? Wait until all of the site is done before you debut it. BTW...there is some sort of live chat with the web editor/director later this morning or early afternoon. Judging from prior comments about this redesign, she does seem eager to answer questions.
  13. Wow...Toronto looks even better than Chicago! Great thread!!!!!!
  14. Nice work!
  15. I actually like this article...but a lot of the comments on the espn site do not...but the real reason I guess was that I wasn't sure where to post it...
  16. This piece is full of backhanded compliments/comments, as only ESPN could do...and the last line is especially tasteless. HOWEVER, it would be cool if CLE could pull off a summer Olympics one of these decades...plenty of other stuff to worry about first around the city, I suppose. http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/7039/only-cleveland-can-save-the-2012-olympics
  17. Let us know how we can help!

The building looks great! Is it just me, or is the signage (or lack thereof) along the fences incredibly BLAND?!? Especially for a facility that is involved in the arts?! Just a thought...forgive my rant!
  19. Thanks for the follow up again! I'll keep all posted on what - if anything - I find out!
  20. Thanks for the quick follow up, Sherman. I plan on trying to track down the owner of this place...at some point. Do you know what the actual street address is? I found the addresses of the buildings on Ashland in your work...but I wonder if the main power facility holds a Cedar address?
  21. Nice (make that excellent) work Sherman. This building has been on my radar for a while. I actually went out of my way over Christmas last year to drive down Ashland Rd. to see what the landscape was like. I realize that the neighborhood around it is not very good...it actually almost seems desolate on the Longfellow/Thackeray side of the property. Also...literally across Ashland Rd. at the corner of Cedar (southwest corner, I believe) is an AWESOME looking building related to this one...it looks like a far cooler version of the power station in Ohio City that the Cle Museum of Art is rehabbing for gallery space. Once again...the disadvantage here is that the location would probably not support any type of project like that. So...dumb question to the fellow CLE urbanophiles on this board...how do I contact the owner of this place? Is it owned by Sandusky Solutions?
  22. I find Chicago a better place to visit than live. And I've been here for 12 years....I'd like to give San Fran a try.
  23. I remember when the city did this in 1996... Visually amazing. Good to see it hopefully coming back!
  24. Nice work!!! I need to get over there and check out the neighborhood!

Former PA announcer Howie Chizek died tonight. RIP. He was one of the best and most underrated announcers in pro sports.
