  1. Well said... Re-signing Grady and not getting another bat in the off season were big flops, too...along with Ubaldo...but the front office has had some under the radar moves that have been solid!
  2. Was going to go yesterday...glad I didn't. Sox Park is nice...and easily accessible by train, especially if you are in the Loop or Michigan Ave area...but the train ride from Evanston is long on the weekends without the express service. Anyway...in the 12 years I've been here I think the Tribe is 3-12 in games that I've attended...! Hopefully Ubaldo stops the slide today...!!!! Go Tribe!
  3. Another blurb from Bill Winsor of the Nashville Med Mart. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120515/OPINION03/305150011/Medical-Trade-Center-gains-global-character
  4. Looks like TN is not going away anytime soon. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120524/BUSINESS01/305240038/RFID-Healthcare-Consortium-commits-medical-mart-lease?odyssey=mod
  5. I like this building, too. Can't wait to see it in person later this summer.
  6. I cannot believe that after everything people still believe the whole Chicago thing. Really? Did you think BP would move to Chicago? What about Office Max? Not quite the same situation but a move here was certainly possible. I'm thankful that a NEO company decided to stay in NEO. THAT'S what I believe.
  7. Amen. They could be in Chicago. At least Westlake is closer to downtown CLE than Schaumburg or Oak Brook!!!
  8. I think it's pretty cool...I agree about the lawn space, though. Should be a good addition to the cityscape of Cincinnati.
  9. Should be interesting to see how this casino compares to the urban experience that Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino offers. I know my Columbus-based friends and family members wish this thing was built in the city like the original plan mandated.
  10. Well said.
  11. ChiCleveKid replied to a post in a topic in City Photos - Ohio
Bought our first house there in 1995 on Sycamore St. Small wood frame house that needed a bunch of work. We had a blast fixing it up...met some great people and really loved living down there. Left in 2000 and came here. Nothing really bad to say about the village...IMHO it could use some more dynamic retail options and a bit more foot traffic...keep in mind this was when the Brewery District was a happening place...I think the Arena District has taken some of the luster away from this part of the city. I was always pleasantly surprised as to how safe and quiet it was - in general.
  12. I mentioned the Nets above...glad you read all of the posts before firing off a reply. Cincy won't get another team without a quality arena. CLE has the arena and an owner that can make it happen....as well as over 4 MILLION people within a 75 mile radius of downtown. Plus CLE is the 7th largest youth hockey market...which helps.
  13. No markets have JUST the NHL and the NBA, like Columbus would have if this actually comes thru. And....Newark won't have the Nets much longer as they are moving to Brooklyn...I think as of next NBA season. On a side note, it's kind of funny that LA's Staples Center has TWO NBA teams AND an NHL team and can get around all of the scheduling issues.
  14. Cleveland should get the NHL before Columbus gets the NBA. The NHL Barons don't count as they were in existence for a whopping two seasons....and were horribly mismanaged by the Gunds. I will say this...in Chicago there are a lot of fans of the Bulls that don't care much about the Blackhawks....and vice versa...so the fan overlap is not much of a concern.
  15. Wow! Nice work!
  16. This was buried on Cleveland.com tonight. Must have taken a back seat to some sort of Browns news... http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/243127/3/Cleveland-Slavic-Village-to-get-velodrome-cycling-track
  17. Dumb question but do these banners exist now and are blank - or are those photoshopped representations of what's to come?!? Thanks!
  18. This is good stuff! Depressing but good. Maybe these latest rounds of development will cure some of this.
  19. And just like in cleveland those stores closed. I don't think Columbus was ready. Cleveland was ahead of its time and as ive said earlier. Both had stores that went bankrupt, like Gucci that had nothing to do with the local market spending ability. Bendel's is a Columbus based HQ store and that the only reason it was built. You are right about Gucci. There is a new Bendel's going in at Old Orchard here. It would not have been in Columbus if it was not owned by Wexner/Limited.
  20. Cleveland is radically underserved on the luxury front...especially when it comes to places like Tiffany & Co. And REI should have a store somewhere in NEO...it would definitely do well. I know this is off topic but I was in the LL Bean at Old Orchard yesterday...the staff outnumbered the customers by about 4:1. I don't give that place a positive long term outlook.
  21. It's funny because when I moved to Columbus in 1991 it seemed like their downtown mall - City Center - had so much going on...including a Gucci, Polo, Armani Exchange, Fendi, Henri Bendel, etc. It also had three solid anchor stores in Marshall Field's, Lazarus and Jacobson's. Now instead of Marshall Field's, it IS a field. At least Tower City is still standing. I predict a big upswing once the casino is up and running. Dan Gilbert won't have it any other way.
  22. I'm sure you are right. I know Chiquita mentioned it when they left Cincy for Charlotte.
  23. Agreed. His answer to staying in CLE was pretty tepid. Oh well, such is the noncommittal role of today's business leaders. Tired of the hub excuse. You don't see Heinz, Alcoa, PPG or PNC threatening to leave Pittsburgh...or P&G bolting Cincinnati because of their recent loss of airport hubs...!
  24. I'm not a fan of the art direction of the sign...I think the color choice is putrid. However, I like that fact that a big company - KIA - is sponsoring signage in CLE. And if it jazzes up an already crappy building then I'm all for it. Just not this particular one.
