Where in the world is... Sherman Cahal?
when you go, make sure to check out Devil's Bathtub (hard to miss) and know that I fell in there in March 2005 and couldn't get out. Soooo cold.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Yes there are a lot of vacant buildings. But those vacant buildings are extremely important and in an historical district. Thus, it is a ridiculous (and, IMO ignorant) claim to say 'tear them down for a jail'..... The neighborhood is critical to the future of Cincinnati. Not Green Township, not Colerain, not West Chester....but OTR. If we tear the neighborhood down, Cincinnati's competitive edge for the future is lost. But alas, I know you dont really believe we should tear anything down in OTR. You're just trying to get attention. You LOVE it.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The jail would have to be within the same TIF as the streetcar to be considered for the same funding, TIF wise. And based on how the TIFs are laid out - ribboned along certain streets - putting a jail within the TIFs would prove impossible given the large footprint jails need.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Doubt it. The increased revenue in a TIF will go towards paying off bond debt necessary for TIF funding. Atleast, I am pretty sure this is how these TIF districts (pay as you go) in OTR work. Clarification welcome...
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
No it doesn't. TIF money used to fund a streetcar in downtown and OTR can never be used to build a jail in Queensgate.

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
^this is true.

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
Not sure how new it is. I think its been there for a month or two. Can't say for sure. They do need better signage though, as you walk along Walnut between 6th and 7th on the west side of the street. You can see the sign from the Aronoff, but you definitely can't see it on the west side. I saw a big sign tonight hanging from bootsy's saying 'Now Open for Lunch.'
-
Cincinnati: State of Downtown
it does have signage, hanging off the 2nd floor outdoor balcony.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
absolutely. Especially when those opinions have base and merit and aren't founded upon ignorance and fear.

You said OTR is one of the most crime ridden neighborhoods in the city. I am simply asking for proof. Where does it rank?

:-P :-P :-P :-P :-P Ill see you in class tomorrow.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Well no offense DanB, but you can't seem to have a conversation....period. Mainly because you throw around insults about neighborhoods and opinions about places in which you know nothing of. You said it yourself, your opinion is baseless. How can we have a conversation with that without getting a little annoyed?
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Can you show me evidence that proves OTR has one of the greatest concentrations of crime in the city? And how exactly are you defining 'crime?' Part 1...or.....???
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
your common sense tells you that having an opinion based on nothing is valid? hhhmmm. Oh the west side of Cincinnati...

This development = utterly ridiculous. :-P Northgate mall, Tri-County Mall, Deerfield Towne Center (in a few years), Bridgewater Falls... You pick.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
then 'common sense' would have told you to read the streetcar feasibility study and the UC study on the streetcar feasibility study -- both of which found the streetcar will CREATE a lot of economic development. What do you know, transportation creating economic development. WHo would have thought it...

and plus, we have plenty of shopping malls and strip centers in which this development could have went into. But it didn't....because of a 'to each his own' attitude.

eeerrr....yes to each his own. I mean, who cares about how such crap affects the region. Who cares about regionalism at all. Thank God we have 60 plus suburbs in the area....to each his own. Different people want different lifestyles, regions should provide space for all of them. There is a place in the region for an outlet mall. It's not like these stores could go anywhere else. The whole concept is based on a model that requires this type of exurb development. The option of not having them just takes the money out of the region. Monroe shouldn't even be considered apart of our region. This type of use should be in Forest Park, with a growth boundary just outside the beltway. Or is a growth boundary disallowing people to live certain ways (at the expense of everyone else mind you)?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
...and the reason given here in this thread is that people don't ride buses because that they don't want to sit next to the homeless, smelly, and/or threatening looking people. Who do you think will be on the streetcar to nowhere? Again, go and ride the bus. You clearly don't.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
yea, because thats all who ride the buses right now. Get on a bus, take it through OTR, and see who gets on and off. Plus, its proven the streetcar attracts users that don't use buses.

Cincinnati: A Few NBDs
I have been documenting a couple of Cincinnati's Neighborhood Business Districts(NBDs) for my Masters thesis and I decided to share a few photos I took yesterday. This by no means accounts for all of Cincinnati's NBDs but the collection does give an idea of the variety. Enjoy the photos, unphotoshopped, unaltered. and is it me or is there a new lighting scheme? The building used to have a gold glow to it at night. Now, it looks stark white.
