Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Im not saying to stop. I just think that the uptown line relies more heavily on the downtown line than the uptown line. I feel that the downtown line will do exactly what it is supposed to even without the uptown line, but i dont feel the same about the uptown line. I want it all but i dont think they need to happen at the same time. I think the downtown line should come and the rest follow

I agree with hohum. I think that the idea of the streetcar is to capitalize on the vacant housing stock in downtown and OTR first and foremost. Having this will attract not only new residents to downtown, but also businesses. People keep saying that without uptown this is only a tourist attraction. I strongly disagree. If you live in Northern OTR, downtown is a long walk, but the streetcar will make it so much more convenient for residents to commute to downtown for work or entertainment. Also YP's tend to love the idea of mass transit. This sign of progress will help YP's want to live in OTR as opposed to Hyde Park or Oakley, where they can't afford to own and have to rent. The Uptown section of this project just makes it better, but there is no reason to build uptown if you dont have it going downtown. Downtown section could stand alone, but not the uptown section. Merely my opinion.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
^ I completely agree with what you guys are saying i don't like this idea, but i also don't think it will be successful because they wont have any meats or fish, which is what i mostly go to findlay for.

So since the city revoked eagle's development rights to the lot is the city going to offer the same deal to another developer? I feel like if they gave that same deal to an out of town development firm that they would eat that up. I guess they might be waiting on the market to stabalize a little bit.

Here is something i whipped up real quick if anybody has a good pic along the streetcar route i'll throw that in there, or a better slogan than bring life back. It was just the first thing i came up with

Does the front of the building look any better, or like they have done any work?

Over-the-Rhine: Central Parkway, Broadway Commons
I go to West Virginia University and both of our stadiums are on the outskirts of campus. I can tell you from personal experience that non-student athletes like the stadiums on campus for pre-gaming festivities but also care about stadium size for being able to get tickets, but i think the athletes are more interested in a good facility. Both scenarios have pros and cons.

Over-the-Rhine: Central Parkway, Broadway Commons
Here are a couple of observations that I made while I was on Central Parkway today 1) The on street parking is extremely under utilized. If i had to guess it was at around 20% full - In my survey about 65% of people thought it was necessary to keep the on street parking - In my personal opinion onstreet parking should be kept for side streets, but in my preliminary design i made it reflect the survey. I am rethinking it but will be careful 2) Someone was using the center islands to walk their dog - People often say these island parks are never used, and say that these are better used as a turn lane - In my design I am removing the turn lanes and expanding the parks where possible 3) People were hanging out in the parking lot across from Kroger infront of the Cincinnatus Mural smoking (I'm assuming they worked in the Kroger building). - I am proposing to convert this into a small plaza or pocket park. I know someone mentioned that it will not get any sun, but it will from about 10:30 to about 1:30 which are the times when plazas are used the most. - This mural is really outstanding and it is being neglected in our city by being fronted with an ugly parking lot. I think we really take this for granted because during my first presentation everyone really got fired up about this idea.

Examining OTR: Social, Political and Economic Impacts of Redevelopment
Just an observation I made while i was in OTR today, but i often notice homeless people picking up cans. Wouldn't it be a worth while program to give these guys some uniforms and have them pick up trash around the city and OTR. This will help give them a greater sense of self worth and they can earn money doing pretty much the same thing that they were doing before, and people wouldn't be as condescending towards them. This could also be run through a welfare type organization where they get their check plus more money by doing this. THe city wins by getting cleaner streets and they win by getting more money a sense of self worth. Not a real refined thought at this point but its a starting point. Any other thoughts on something like this? Has it been tried?

Over-the-Rhine: Central Parkway, Broadway Commons
I was down on Central Parkway today and there was a guy checking the irrigation system from the Cincinnati Parks Department and he said the new finish date for the project is May 2nd.

^ I think that this plan will attract a lot of YP's into staying, those of us who are originally from the city and the ones who went to UC and Xavier. Otherwise I see the leak of YP's to Chicago, NYC, Baltimore, Boston, ect. continuing.

Does anyone know if Oceanaire ended up opening on time, on March 22? There weren't any write-ups in the Enquire or anyone talking about it on here. Just curious.

Examining OTR: Social, Political and Economic Impacts of Redevelopment
Is there anywhere to find listings on these type of buildings? I use the Enquirer's link, but they don't really have a whole lot listed on there.

Examining OTR: Social, Political and Economic Impacts of Redevelopment
Yeah i agree Schwartz point is probably my favorite area except for the Wash Park area, but I would like to be a little further south. If the price was right i would defiantly live around Schwartz Point. Unfortunately because I'm still in school i don't really have the cash to make a purchase right now, but could probably get approved for a loan of around 150k. I wouldnt want to strap myself with that kind of mortgage payment and not be able to afford renovations. Just trying to get an idea of how much cash i will need, and make the best decision for myself.

^ Michael you are probably the person to ask. I'm looking to move to OTR after I graduate in May (provided i can find a job in Cincy). On average what is an abandoned building going to sell for (3-Story single family, preferably near the proposed streetcar), and how much in investment am i going to be looking at to get it to living conditions?

^ That article was a waste of my time. He obviously doesn't understand what a streetcar is, and from reading that possibly a very poor columnist

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
I would love to eventually see a large scale streetscape project in OTR. Burring all the utilities, adding bump-outs to all on street parking, creating a somewhat uniform sidewalk character, additional street-trees, nice lamps and streetsigns, ect.

A New York Minute
Yeah actually i was only there for about a 1 1/2 days and managed to take 400 pics, but my flickr account only allowed me to get these on there. Really the only things that i wanted to see that i didn't get to were the Brooklyn Bridge and Prospect Park.
