  1. if the projects on the table right now come full circle (the banks, the streetcar, QCSII, University Village, Calhoun, and even the light interest in the Union Terminal Project) it's just a matter of time before areas like Broadway Commons start to feel the impact. With the first several phases of the streetcar i would not be surprised to see Broadway Commons become the next Banks project, like you said rando. I think that people would like the idea of this area because you are basically starting from scratch and have an opportunity to do what ever you can dream up, just like the banks project. A lot of people are drawn to the idea of new construction for residential and commercial development because the sky is the limit.
  2. It really is a great sign. I wonder if the Museum was planning this as a political move to show the public, "Hey we're here as part of the community and we are all for the progress of the community.".
  3. Freedom Center to donate land BY JESSICA BROWN | [email protected] UPDATED, 10:25 am: The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will give up development rights to a disputed piece of land for free. The decision was unanimous by the Freedom Center board, said Don Murphy, Freedom Center CEO. He said the board decided to forgo compensation because it supports the best interest of the community and wants to get the Banks project done. www.enquirer.com
  4. Good call on Central Parkway and twelfth right before the wooden nickel
  5. Nope, West Virginia University
  6. I'm glad to see they are going with the interior surface lot instead of the typical exposed. That is probably my number one pet peeve. I can't stand seeing vast surface lots, creating a barren wasteland before you get to the destination. They are always 1/4th full and always ugly. It's such an aesthetic drain.
  7. ^ Yeah I completely agree with you Rando. it really is prime real estate, and if the streetcar works like they are saying it (Broadway Commons) will start to feel the over flow. Also look at the 2030 plan and this area is slated to be part of Streetcar phase II, right after the uptown streetcar. Very promising for Broadway Commons. Ten years into the future is defiantly not to far to look ahead when planning large developments of this nature.
  8. Got to get feed back from the people I am essentially designing this for. No, but I agree very nerdy. Hopefully i can come up with something that reflects the vision of the citizens. You guys would obviously know this better than i would, but why has the City made large efforts at attracting companies like Cintas to downtown? From what i can come up with, giving them the tax incentives that mason did would create controversy with other downtown corps. It just drives me crazy when i see these large business parks out in the suburbs and i see what problems they have caused because of all of the added infrastructure, and i just think to myself how nice it would be to see this economic boom and expansion downtown. Imagine what the city would have been like if P&G was able to put their research center within the city limits. I often think about how they could have connected their headquarters and research center with rail had it been close enough. Broadway Commons could be a very nice area for a world headquarters, or at least large corporate expansion. The space is there, but the support isn't.
  9. Yeah thanks for the help
  10. Yeah thats a really good idea
  11. yeah i've been talking to some of my prof's and they think i should try to set up something to give to city council
  12. I'm starting on my senior capstones and have chosen Broadway Commons as my site. I actually got my inspiration from one of the threads on this site. My concept is to create a Gateway into Broadway Commons using Central Parkway. Broadway Commons then will contain an urban park that will be subsidized with development in the surrounding areas. I put together a quick survey, and would greatly appreciate it if you would take a few minutes and give your feedback. I hope that we can keep this thread pumping with good ideas and opinions. Remember Broadway Commons/ Union Terminal is part of Streetcar Phase 2 right after the University line so this type of project could come to reality in the next 10 years! Thanks for your help! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=qaIMg_2bYtdGgv29t0GPOnOw_3d_3d
  13. Time Star building? judging from the printing press, stone, and style of carving it looks like that could be it
  14. I went to the blue wisp for the first time last week and thought it was pretty cool. The quartette was really good! The environment was okay. the beers were 4 dollars for a bud light draught, and they didn't have any Christian Moerlien so that sucked. All in all it was a good experience and i would go back. When i was there I thought that the building was okay, but for the amount of empty stock in cincy i would like to see it in a cooler building with a little more atmosphere. Something similar to what they had at La Normandy before they closed would be awesome. Just a side note, but isn't their lease running up here soon? I also noticed that the building looked like it could have been a car showroom and my dad said that he thinks he remembers like Queen City Cevy being there.
  15. How about this one?
  16. Maybe if they cut the subsidies for the Underground Railroad Museum they will use their 1 million dollars and then it will close. Then we could get the World Beer Museum in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet that wouldn't have to be subsidized. Just kidding I've been to the museum once and thought it was very well done and very moving, but i don't ever see it being able to generate huge revenues. It belongs in D.C. where there is a huge wealth of these types of museums. I think it's a crock of shit what they (the museum) are doing considering that if the county or city didn't give them huge amounts of money annually they would have been out of business in the first year. I also do believe that somebody really screwed up by just giving them the land. I don't understand the logic there. What were they thinking? Did they forget that the banks project was eventually supposed to be there? Stupid costly mistake. They need to come to some sort of agreement. The city and the county for that matter can't afford to have this project flop.
  17. The first thing I thought of when Great American was vacating their old buildings was that some of these older buildings would be great apartments. Just like rando mentioned with the old Enquirer building. The apartment market is really thin since, I've been looking for after graduation. It seems that there is an incredible surplus of condos in the planning stage or waiting to be sold, but the YPs that the city is trying to attract can't afford condos right after graduation. They need apartments. Obviously it would be best if new companies moved into the market and took up these vacancies, but it would be good to see some apartments built.
  18. I ate at Nada for the first time and it was unbelievable. The food was good and the proportions were really good. My gf and i couldn't even finish the fajitas for two people. The drinks were expensive for the size, but all in all was a very good experience
  19. Thats what i figured, but to spend that kind of money and not get a lot more seating is insane to me. Maybe thats just me, but 16000 seats is not a lot, and same goes for the football stadium. I feel like if your going to go, go all out. I understand that the financing is not there for that right now, but i would much rather hold of for several years than 7 years down the road realize "Oh maybe we should have expanded when we had the chance." Does anyone else feel this way? I just think that they are spending a lot of money for a temporary fix.
  20. I found the website because when i typed it into google some girl's myspace came up and it had a link to the site. From what i have gathered its a makeup company for films...? if that makes sense. Why Cincy i don't know. I emailed them so hopefully they respond. I'll keep you posted.
  21. ^ Yeah it is unfortunate because it is located directly across the street from a fortune 500 co. and it really wouldn't cost a great deal and the visual impact that it would have on that area would be remarkable. Those are the kind of things that make cities great. We are so close, but it's little things like that, that need to change.
  22. It the redevelopment plan for central parkway's "Green Space" (or lack therefore) you can see the plans on Human Nature's website http://humannature.cc/index.asp?page=open_central_parkway I talked to the guy who designed it, and he said they were very limited as to what they were able to do. The Transportation Dept. would not allow them to get rid of any of the paved areas to add greenspace even though at one time the land did belong to the parks system. I'm not crazy about the design, materials chosen, or the modern art, but they are all a welcomed improvement.
  23. What i don't understand is why they would spend 100+ million to get the new arena and only up the seating by three thousand, and the same goes for the stadium. With the stadium there are probably restraints as to how many more the stadium can fit regardless, but for the millions that they are going to spend i would like to see about 20,000 for the arena and somewhere around 48,000 in the stadium. For a project of this magnitude and cost i just don't see the justifications for slightly larger stadiums. In the words of Daniel Burnham "Make no little plans" (I also am worried about the historic character being lost at Nippert. That is one of the most beautiful stadiums)
