  1. They are saying Findlay Market will be the beginning and end of the downtown circulator. Just like the end of the line at a subway, the cars wait for a period of time before leaving the station. It's not extending the wait time to sit there. You can't run the cars back to back otherwise you end up with primarily empty cars. By waiting at findlay market you don't have people rushing to get on with all of their groceries. And Dan, try not being so negative all the time. You might find out that you enjoy life much more that way.
  2. From what i understand they were shut down for selling to under-agers
  3. I would like to see us get one for the Opening Day Parade
  4. Just an observation, but nobody ever uses Ballpark Village as a case study for The Banks. Two very similar projects in very similar cities. I know that people love dogging the problems that The Banks has had, but St. Louis is having those same problems. The people with a negative position are often the people who have no idea of the complexities of a project like The Banks, and no idea that these same problems occur outside of Cincinnati. These projects take the stars aligning to happen. So next time someone dogs on The Banks ask them if they know of Ballpark Village or how long it took The Inner Harbor (Baltimore) to get to the point it's at. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_Ballpark_Village
  5. Bortz is on McConnel right now talking about the ballot initiative
  6. They asked me that too. It's possible that people misunderstood that they were asking if they were registered within the city and not in the region.
  7. P&G relocating 650 workers downtown http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090624/BIZ01/306240005/P&G+moving+workers This is a big win for downtown. Hopefully it will become a trend for local companies. I bet P&G is seeing people want to be closer to downtown, especially young tallent.
  8. ^ Jake you are exactly right. The roads are way to wide for a neighborhood. They are uninviting and suburbanesque. I think that Liberty needs to be treated as a parkway like Central Parkway. With median planting islands, wider sidewalks, streetlamps, and add bikelanes into the mix. In my opinion Central Parkway and liberty shouldn't have on street parking. There is enough on the side streets.
  9. ^ I couldn't agree more with C-Dawg. People always say it shouldnt become another yuppie area, but Cincinnati really doesnt have a yuppie area, maybe Mt. Adam's and some people agrue Mt. Lookout or Hyde Park but they areall really expensive and don't have really high concentrations of yuppies. We need a strong urbancore to compete nationally. I don't think we should be looking at competing against the Midwest, because lets face it the midwest is not the model of a healthy city. Why do people have such a problem with yuppies anyways. They pay tax, are usually well educated, and don't typically commit violent crimes. They are also most likely to live in urban areas because they don't have kids so they can easily live in a condo, and they want the nightlife and the vibrant feel of an urban area.
  10. I definatly don't agree, and it is terrible P.R. for the neighborhood when rankings like this come out. It's hard enough to convince people that it's changing with out press releases like this coming out.
  11. http://dcist.com/2009/05/five_guys_in_dupont_circle_nabbed_b.php Hopefully it's better run than this! I do love some Five Guys. I feel so guilty after getting the Cajun fries and the paper bag is drenched in grease, but damn are they good!
  12. ^ I thought the same thing when I read the enquirer article yesterday
  13. I was jumped inside a pizza shop in Morgantown WV with security in there. It can happen anywhere.
  14. Wasn't the Emery Theatre included in the bid for this?
  15. ^ you should try Washington D.C. Dupont Circle, McPherson Square, and many other public spaces not including the mall are covered in homeless people at all times of the day and night. The one thing that D.C. does a better job of is making sure the homeless aren't commiting any criminal acts.
  16. ^ That will be a great addition to the market. He sounds like a guy who might want to be a vocal supporter of the streetcar.
  17. couldn't some sort of grassroots campaign be put together to try to save this building? Sort of like what is being done in Price Hill where the citizens work to rehab the houses.
  18. Looking at Reading Road I think a 'Complete Streets' project would do wonders for the revitalization of this area. There are so many great mansions in disrepair through this neighborhood. I think that marketing this area to Xavier profs. and hospital workers would be hugely beneficial. This area is not dense enough where single rehabers can make a huge difference.
  19. ^ have you tried to express these ideas or concepts to the city council or the yp kitchen cabinet? It seems that you have a lot of experience and knowledge that could help change the way the city handles these type of issues.
  20. I listened to Explore Cincinnati's podcast yesterday from May 27th. Jake Meclenbourg (sorry about the spelling) was saying that there is a $15k mortgage that essentailly never needs to be repaid. Is that something that is offered by 3CDC or is that a gov. program that goes along with the $8K tax refund?
  21. I completely agree. What can we do other than write to council?
  22. its not this individual murder that scares me its the fact that earlier last month there was a killing on the corner i want to buy on and then another on a block over. Then on top of that these two. I know that these will probably come back as the mother doing it or a bf or something, but it's still a murder or shots fired in my potential neighborhood. Just for the record I'm not scared of living in OTR regaurdless of the murders because i know that they are almost never random targets. I do however have to worry about the saftey of my gf and her perception of the neighborhood. If she never feels safe living there then we can't. OTR is still a tough sell to a 20 something girl once you venture out of the Gateway Quarter.
  23. this makes me nervous, because i want to buy a house that is only a block away from this
  24. We need to get people to understand when they are saying "the $185 million dollar streetcar from downtown to OTR" that $185 million will also take you through uptown all the way to the zoo. So many people think that it is just the downtown circulator for $185 million.
