Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I guess since everyone is throwing two cents into the convo I will as well. I believe that a lot of people have invested into OTR because they see how important and significant it is to our city and the nation, but I also believe that the proposed streetcar is what is getting a lot of people to make smaller investments (buying condos). I'm not saying that my logic fits every situation, but i think that OTR is coming alive for many reasons and no one can tell how much of it can be contributed to the streetcar proposal. My main point that I want to make is that things will continue to get better with or without the streetcar, but with the streetcar it will happen exponentially faster and much more successfully.

How does the current plan make anywhere in OTR any more of a destiniation than say either of the stadiums, the Arronoff, UC, Uptown, or anything else along the line? I'm just trying to understand your logic so don't take this as being rude, but do you not want it to stop in OTR? The great thing about a streetcar is that it is a circulator and stops are less of destinations than a subway. True, development will probably occur more heavily next to the stops, but there are much more frequent stops so you have more pockets of develpment than with a subway (if that makes any sence). Also this is being used as a tool to get the maximum return on investment. Right now OTR has the most potential for a large return on investment.

Washington, DC's *wonderful* Northwest neighborhoods (102 photos)
^ wait until June the weather won't be so great in D.C., but we will still have great architecture, colorful facades, trees, parks, and a subway among other things here!

Cincinnati: Corryville: 2600 Vine Redevelopment
I really hope that these buildings are not demolished. While some of them are not significant, this is one of the best remaining business districts left in the city. I would love to see them put this in the kroger block and reconnect short vine to vine, but i know that looks like its just a dream now.

I really hope this does become an attraction. It would be cool to see them sell it retail at the warehouse or open a shop at findlay market.

Cincinnati: A Few NBDs
I think Cincy's biggest shortcoming (this goes for every where not just NBD's) is the lack of streetscaping. This includes boring concrete sidewalks, above ground utilities, street lamps on utility poles, and this is the biggest NO STREET TREES! Just look how much nicer Walnut Hills: Peebles Corner looks than West Price Hill. This needs to be addressed across the entire city starting with downtown.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: School for the Creative & Performing Arts
It would have been really dynamic if they could have worked to incorporate the SPCA in with the existing buildings. That is something you see a lot of in Europe and D.C.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I tend to agree with Living in Gin. There is no reason that we could not link Union Terminal with downtown via streetcar, light rail or even subway. There could be light rail from UT that heads to the RTC, and dare i say it, a subway connection with the existing tunnels at Ezzerad Charles and Central Parkway. If the West End/ Queensgate is ever going to become a viable neighborhood again it needs assets. Union Terminal could be that asset, but we need to think big. The west end could be a hub for new commercial development with green and white collar jobs. The biggest obstacle of making that area viable is minimizing the psycological barrier between there and Downtown, that is I-75.

Does anyone know if this project is off the table? I'm looking at moving back to Cincy in 1 year and my g/f isn't comfortable with OTR yet so I thought this would be a great place to get a start.

Although I think that is a great spot for the Blue Wisp, and I don't like their current location I'd hate to see it leave downtown.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
He was asking people if they were registered in the city, and then he would say "Would you like to sign a petition for the streetcar?". Most people just sign anything and with that type of wording it sounds like the petetion is pro-streetcar. So overhearing that i went up and told them he wanted to stop the streetcar, and then he would say he just wants it to go to ballot and give people the option to vote on it. he wasn't really happy with me, but i found it to be fun pissing him off.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I was in town this weekend for Easter, and went down to Findlay before heading to the Reds game on Saturday. I grabbed some food and saw a guy getting people to sign a petition "For the Streetcar". I went up and called him on it and I was able to get several people not to sign the petition after telling them he wants to stop the streetcar from being built. By using some clever language he was tricking people to sign it. I was taken by suprise to see this guy at Findlay, because thats a demographic that would seem to be for the streetcar. I wish I would have known earlier that COAST was going to do this and i would have made it a point to get down there a lot earlier.

Relocating from KC to Cincinnati
What kind of living situation are you looking for? Are you young? Do you like an urban environment or a neighborhood environment? My favorite areas are: Over the Rhine - Eclectic urban neighborhood with beautiful architecture. A little bit rough around the edges, but is under going an amazing transformation. Downtown - In my opinion the most happenin' place in the city. Mt. Adams - Urban neighborhood with great views overlooking downtown Clifton - is a neighborhood that has huge mansions and student housing two blocks down the street - there is something for everyone in clifton Mt. Lookout - nice neighborhood with a great business district - lots of young families Columbia Tusclum - very vibrant neighborhood with great victorian style homes Walnut Hills - very close to Eden park, Mt. adams and downtown - very affordable and a lot of historic architecture. Areas of the neighborhood are rough. Or if you prefer living in Kentucky Newport or Covington - both are really nice areas, but I just prefer Ohio check out this website that Proctor and Gamble just made for helping their employees relocating here. its still under construction so it doesn't have everything yet, but it will get you started. http://pgcincinnati.com/ Hope this helps and good luck. We're looking forward to having you in the 'Nati

Cincinnati: ArtWorks
This is the response that I got back. ----------------------------------------- Thanks for your email Brandon. Thanks for your praise of the MuralWorks program. It is always nice to hear positive feedback! I think this is a great image and a great idea for a mural. We will see if we can work towards it. I forwarded the image to a muralist who I know who I think would do a great job painting such an image. It would be a challenge but it would be fantastic visually. It reminds me of a couple of murals the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program in tribute to their sports stars: One of Dr. J: http://enrico.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/10/06/doctorjmural.jpg Also this baseball mural: http://img.timeinc.net/time/photoessays/2007/phil_murals/phil_mural_09.jpg Thanks so much for the suggestion. We will have to work to find an appropriate wall and an agreeable building owner. We’ll see what we can do.

Just to give people an idea this is where the D.C. streetcar system is starting. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=102871512541366209360.00046554cb856a4d84bad&t=h&z=16 Its a very rough neighborhood with some redeeming qualities not nearly as significant as OTR

^ The new system in D.C. will have overhead wires. It will use OCS poles and be just like Portland's
