^ but they were thinking about moving to mason which would have been catastrophic to downtown, and making moves like this will keep those major employers downtown.

I was thinking last night that this is a picture that needs to be a mural in the uptown area. Preferably in an area that sees a lot of foot traffic and would be highly noticeable. Maybe on along Calhoun or McMillian. Possibly with Oscar Robertson in color and keep everything else in black and white. He is a local sports hero who definitely doesn't get his due. http://www.sportswriters.net/usbwa/awards/robertson/action_oscar_ncaa.jpg Any thoughts on making this happen? I also would like to see this mural be slightly edgy for the college environment.

I think that phase 1 (Banks to McMicken-OTR) is $102 and then from there up to Clifton is where you pick up the extra money. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I've always wanted it to be used as a post office, and it would be great to see these types of services in the Gateway Quarter. They have to build what the market demands though, and they obviously know what they are doing.

Does anyone know if there is a chance that the post office will be rehabbed into a post office again?

NAACP: Anti-Streetcar Petitions Tomorrow Posted by JanePrendergast at 2/12/2009 3:42 PM EST Christopher Smitherman, president of the Cincinnati branch of the NAACP, announces today that the NAACP will take some of its signed petitions Friday to the Hamilton County Board of Elections to start the process of getting onto the November ballot. The group wants voters to be able to decide if the city can spend money on a streetcar. He didn't include how many signatures they already have collected, but wrote in an e-mail that the group is confident it will hit its goal of 6,300 names of registered voters. His release: "The Cincinnati NAACP will begin the pre-check process on the streetcar petition at the Hamilton County Board of Elections tomorrow Friday, February 13, 2009. The Hamilton County Board of Election staff appreciates a gradual submission of signatures so their office staff is not overwhelmed at the last minute. The Cincinnati NAACP remains confident that it will collect the needed signatures to place the streetcar issue on the ballot for the November 2009 election. " Our organization finds it amazing that the Mayor and Council would move forward with a $12 million request of President Obama for a streetcar knowing the Cincinnati NAACP is collecting signatures to place the issue on the ballot" President Smitherman says. The Cincinnati NAACP has collected signatures in the "dead of winter" which underscores the organizations commitment and citizens desire to vote on a $200 million expenditure of tax payer dollars. The organization will continue to collect signatures throughout the spring and summer until it reaches its goal of 6,300. The Cincinnati NAACP is exercising its American right to petition the government and request a vote. There is nothing more American. Smitherman says, " 500,000 citizens across this country are losing their jobs every month. However, City Council and the Mayor want to spend precious tax dollars on a pet project called a "choo-choo train" instead of focusing on citizens who continue to lose their homes, health care, and savings."

^ I think that organizing happy hours downtown and along the Streetcar line to get people excited about downtown and the momentum that would be created by a streetcar. YPs and empty nesters are going to be the most important demographic to educate and get them fighting for the streetcar

Cincinnati: Belterra Park Gaming & Entertainment Center
Coney/ River Downs would be a perfect spot for a Casino. This would be a great opportunity to create a resort type Casino. You hove an outdoor concert venue, as well as the Moonlight Gardens, Horse Track, giant swimming pool, and some amusement rides as well as some beautiful old landscape, that could be greatly enhanced by consolidating parking, perhaps an underground parking garage. Use the the Delta Queen to take people from downtown to Coney with entertainment.

any ideas on what you guys would like to see for entertainment? I would like to see some of these type entertainment venues that although they are not largely my scene it will bring a lot more life, vibrancy, and allure to downtown. - Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge - Gordon Bierch Brewery - ESPN Zone - Maybe moving the Montgomery Inn from the water front to the Park Restaurant - Movie Theatre - Book Store - High end shopping

My friend was down at the site yesterday and he talked to a construction worker. He said that the project is way ahead of schedule. He also told him that the drilling at the Banks has hit a problem, but didn't specify. Hopefully it's nothing, but I'm not entirely confident.

BDRUF replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationIt would be terrible to loose either of these especially the one closer to the hospital. I know that someone else could make these profitable. Like it has already been said this is one person pulling some b.s. to get what he wants.

BDRUF replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationDo you have any idea what a restoration for one of these structures would roughly cost? I know it can range widely, but just an idea of what it would cost to make it inhabitable?

Cincinnati: 2008 in Review and Wish List for 2009
I would love to see a city wide streetscape initiative. Planting street trees, burring utilities, decorative sidewalks, and nice site furniture and lighting. Our streetscapes are really lacking a cohesive look, and in many areas are very uninviting.

Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
It would have probably been a lot cheaper to the tax payer to renovate this building and would have been a lot better for the neighborhood. CPS loves tearing down these architectural gems and putting up this crap and it's time that they stop. Hopefully the old SPCA's fate will be much different than Carson.
-
Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
It's such a disappointment that people haven't realized that these buildings are irreplaceable. The suburban crap that they replaced Carson with is a sin. One of the things that makes the city so much better than the suburbs is the great architecture, and everytime we tear down one of these buildings we loose a little bit of our edge over the suburbs.
