Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
Back in ‘96 you could still get penny candy at the corner store over there and houses were only worth a hard days work plus $250 in cash!

The nation’s crumbling and these folks are worried about not being able to get a convenient spot when they drive two blocks to Graeter’s.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
@Lazarus, you gotta relax brother. Just wait till the convention center reopens and 3CDC/the Chamber put that mobile ZYN booth in there. Then you’ll see the vision.

I’m no fan of the current council, but the entire world’s on fire and these HP folks are acting like they’re being run out of their homes. Can’t wait to book that hotel for a staycation.

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
If that were to happen, you gotta re-brand the team as the Cincinnati Swords—the city’s former (and successful) AHL club who were the affiliate of the Sabres. Playing at the Gardens, they were replaced in the market by the Stingers of the WHA and the opening of the Coliseum/Heritage Bank Center. The reborn Swords in a new arena replacing the one originally for a team that never made it to the NHl would be a cool storyline. That being said, would really suck to see Buffalo lose a long-standing team and I don’t see the NHL allowing a club so close to the Blue Jackets. @JaceTheAce41, is Delta Center only temporary?

2026 FIFA World Cup
The NHL is absolutely below the NBA in terms of both exposure and revenue (except in Canada). Even MLS regularly (but not consistently) can pull stronger viewership numbers than premier standalone NHL games on major channels (and the EPL does it without blinking). American Motorsports (Indy/NASCAR) are now easily behind MLS in terms of main stream exposure and both are well behind Formula 1 even in their own category. NASCAR, in particular, has taken a consistent and steep downturn in both viewership and attendance since 2005. It is incredibly unlikely that FIFA would pull out of the US at this point. There are far too many resources, logistics, and funds involved now. They were happy to overlook Putin in 2018 and didn't bat an eye at Qatar using slave labor in 2022. If anything, the Trump/Vance/Miller political clime in the United States is right up their alley.

2026 FIFA World Cup
Unlike yourself, my “no politics” tag is voluntary. And even with the ignore feature, I occasionally still come across your Facebook-style posts in other threads. You and @Lazarus should join me for a soccer game sometime here in Cincinnati. I’ll even buy the first two rounds so you guys can see there’s nothing to fear from the “foreign” sport of soccer or its fans. And that’s a genuine offer to both of you.

Cincinnati: Paycor Stadium Renovations
I mean, I’ve stated countless times that I’m a fan and I’ve also covered these topics/stories multiple times from across teams and states. I’ve also worked with local teams including the Bengals, but again—you can’t even give the same respect others give you and bother reading before posting. I I’m glad you’re happy for a Bengals deal, I am too and I hope it lasts long term with better benefits to the public than we’ve seen before. Now the real hope is: will they save the iconic escalator?

Just be careful. I gave the entirety of my weekend free time to that site, haha.

Cincinnati: Paycor Stadium Renovations
It's almost like the organization you're here apparently doing free PR for has a lengthy history of being poor partners with the citizens and taxpayers of Hamilton County. People have a right to be skeptical, and should be, of any pro sports franchise attempting to get public money. Especially here. Especially with these owners. You can disagree, but you also don't have to continually be a jerk. Reddit might be more your speed, I think the Bengals sub would appreciate your lack of reading comprehension and apparent devotion to the Blackburns.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Full disclosure: I’m not a “map” guy, but I do enjoy (and previously worked in) public transportation. Would love to hear folks’ thoughts on this, but keep in mind: this is just something I did for fun. Over the weekend, I randomly came across http://metromapmaker.com and it got me thinking about Cincinnati’s system map (which, if you go to Government Square, good luck making any sense of that (thankfully, Google Transit Directions exists)). The idea was to try and make something a bit simpler with visual hallmarks similar to what you might find on “traditional” metro systems in other cities. In some cases, I thought this worked out well — like on the Southbank Shuttle which has a hard-to-understand route (but I think this makes it a bit easier to understand). I also think it shows some things that a lot of people may not realize - like how the 2X Airporter also serves as a pretty reliable and easy way to connect with Florence, KY and not solely as an airport connection. It also reveals some overall system flaws while glossing over others: - In most cases, the Gov Square BRT stops will be more convenient than the RTC (even though it has “connections” with other lines. - This map implies that Metro+ is some sort of rapid line (while kind of hand waving the fact that Metro+ is actually just an hour long bus ride that’s less convenient than the #4). I had to take some liberties with names, etc. and my knowledge of mapmaking/wayfinding design is very limited, so I’d love to hear thoughts. Let me know if the graphic is too low res, I’m kind of limited by what the free website offers (you should be able to open it in a new window).
